Not too fond of this sketch. But, not every one is going to be wonderful.

Went and saw Tony Bennett last night, and I have to say I was VERY impressed. The man is eighty-three and able to carry a note better than many singers sixty years younger. I was expecting him to sing for about forty-five minutes, maybe an hour, but he sang for nearly twice that. He was shuffling and dancing around and really seemed to be enjoying himself. It was one of the better shows I've seen and I won't soon forget it.

This drawing has nothing to do with Tony Bennett, but here you go:

A while ago, I was asked to submit some art for a potential project. Since I haven't heard anything back from said project, I figure it's busted and okay to show the pictures here. Come to think of it, I don't think I've EVER heard anything back from these guys on ANYTHING. I don't even know why I try.

Here's an unfinished sketch of the original X-men. No reference.

A lot of these sketches are done on my lunch and cigarette breaks. I think that may be why I finish only a few of them.

A row

The other night a friend and I went for a pint after work where we foolishly had a conversation about God and politics. Yes I know, stupid.

(She will most likely read this blog, and almost certainly give me no end of shit about it)

For the most part it went well, however I noticed my friend really wasn't speaking up when I would ask her opinion on something. She basically told me I was stubborn and nothing she could say would change my mind.

I've been thinking on the accusation off and on since it was spoken and I ask you, my small and faithful readership, am I politically that stubborn?

Of course, I don't see myself as that stubborn, but I am kind of in the box on this one, aren't I? I see myself as one who has come to these decisions and opinions through reading, learning, questioning, and at some point being on either side of the political fence (I try to read as much right wing crap as I do left wing crap. I think it's healthy to listen to people you don't always agree with). But, I could be very wrong.

I remember being young and my parents praising Reagan and then later praising Bush 1, and even later, hating on Clinton. Although my folks never forced any particular view on me, I agreed with them, because they are my parents, and I love them.

Then, when I got into my late teens something didn't quite click with me about the personal assault on Clinton made by the Republicans. It seemed to me, even then, that the Republicans simply didn't like the guy and were trying any trick to get him out of there. I've considered whether or not my thoughts were typical teen angst and rebellion, but, I still love my parents, never (purposefully) dyed my hair blue, and never had a taste for Black Flag. So, no, I don't think it was angst that made me think the Republican's actions were uncalled for.

Shortly after that I began reading.

I was baptized Catholic and raised Lutheran. I went to a Lutheran private school and church until I was fourteen, then I went back to that church two years later to be a part of the youth group program. It was shortly after high school that I got tired of my questions going unanswered. I got tired of the "faith excuse". I got tired of people telling me that I have to "have faith" instead of giving me real, thought out, practical answers to the questions that I had.

So I read the Bible. Cover to cover. (You may or may not be surprised at how few church going Christians have actually done that) After that I read into Buddhism, Taoism, the Muslim religion, and others. But what really changed my mind was when I read into the history of the Bible. Not the history
in the Bible, the history of the Bible. How it was first compiled, it's first printing, the revisions, the additions, the omissions, how it has been changed to serve the needs of monarchs and political agendas, and the massive amounts of texts admittedly being kept hidden by the Vatican. I learned that I can no longer trust this "Manual for Life". How can you trust a book when you can't even be sure who wrote it?

There are things that I liked about Ron Paul. But there are more things that I disliked about Ron Paul. There were things I liked and disliked about Hillary. There are things that I used to like about McCain, but over the last few weeks I've been more disappointed with McCain than anything else. Of all the Republicans I liked him the best (maybe that's why he was chosen. He appeals to the lefties), but shortly after it became obvious that he would have the nomination, I noticed how tight-lipped he has become. How, since it's become known that he doesn't know how many houses he owns, he doesn't answer questions anymore. The Straight Talk Express has come to a grinding halt. He evades hard questions like he didn't before. And nowadays he flat out refuses to answer questions. Check out any recent interview with the guy if you don't believe me. His choice of VP has shown that he is no longer in charge of his own career. It took McCain's war captors five years to break him. It took the GOP less than two.

As a sidenote: I don't dislike Sarah Palin because she has a twat, I dislike her because she's a shitty politician. "The media treats her unfairly!" No. The GOP dropped her in our lap at the last minute. Of course the media is going to be all over her. The GOP chose a VP nominee with a questionable and almost nonexistant record, with state allegations of corruption and abuse of power, a person who asked voters to pray for a pipeline, a person who married a succesionist. Of course the media is going to be all over it. McCain has hardly had to campaign because the media had been focused on
(and attacking) Obama for TWENTY MONTHS. Hillary has been dealing with it since the nineties. Palin supporters should stop squealing and take their fucking medicine. (but this all plays into the republican's hands anyways, but that's a different story)

I choose Obama because I agree with him more than I agree with anyone else. And I have listened to what the others have had to say.

(This is where I get a row from a friend)

So when someone who was born a Christian and lives as a Christian, who was raised by Republicans and now, as an adult, lives as a Republican accuses me of being stubborn and unchanging, friend or not, it kind of gets my knickers in a twist.

This is the first sketch I drew using some of the picture reference from my visits to the Portland zoo. I threw a Skater Bettie on top for the hell of it. I may finish it in Photoshop one of these days...

I've been antsy lately. Artistically antsy...

Here are some hair style ideas for the Skater Betties. They may not be too interesting, but I had fun drawing them.

Went to the zoo again today. Saw the baby elephant. He's all wobbly and cute.

Added more photos to the zoo gallery. Got some neat pictures of the big cats and rhino. Check'em out.

Here's the Vulture's ugly mug.
