The ’N...’ Word
Category: News and Politics

I have wondered for some time now why the media is not that interested in informing their audiences about Darfur.

I get bits and pieces about the atrocities occurring in Darfur, but, I relied on different mediums to investigate; print, television, dictionary, the internet, even the world map on the wall of my dining room (the map my teenagers say "will never be used", and make them feel as though they live in a geography classroom"), yes, that map.

The war in southwestern Sudan has been going on for 25+ years, killed 300,000 people and has displaced 2.5 million Sudanese people, a polite observer might say, "Quite a war".

Actually, a few people have made comparisons to the on-going genocide in Darfur to the Holocaust, mass genocide of Jewish people.

So why are we, in the global community allowing the mass killing, rape, torture, and displacement of millions to happen on our watch?
'Cause they're n*gg*s, '…dark-skinned people of African descent..', and 'politically oppressed' as defined by Webster. The reality is no one cares unless it involves white people. My conclusion is the Sudanese are poor blacks and that seals they're fate…no money, no oil, and no blonde hair/blue eyed poster faces to lead the story with…in essence it's a war we can ignore.

I can't ignore it, that is why my annual protest after the 4th of July celebration will include a sign, 'What About Darfur?'….see ya on the streets!
