Public speaking over, flying on deck.

I can't believe I'm doing two of my least favorite things within a few days of each other. But hey, one down, one to go.

The screening of Gimme Skelter at the horror workshop in Santa Fe went well -- not a lot of people in attendance, but they all seemed to dig it. I think I did okay in the Q&A that followed, and didn't come off like too much of a tool. When the questions turned to lighting, I brought Billy Garberina up to help out, since he handled that aspect of the shoot. This also marked the first time I was able to watch Skelter without wanting to blow my brains out, and y'know what? It ain't a bad little movie. Thanks to Matt Page for asking me to be a part of the workshop, and to Billy for driving me up there and jumping in when needed.

While Billy and I were in Santa Fe, Jen was at the Slipknot concert -- she's not a big fan of the rock that sounds like dogs barking, but her 16-year-old cousin Sean is in town and really wanted to go. The interesting part to me is that Jen counted something like 25 people in Stink of Flesh t-shirts, and two in Skelter shirts. I guess somebody must be watching this crap after all.

I leave for San Diego tomorrow, and I'm hoping to start posting photos from the trip as early as possible. If that sort of thing interests you at all, it's gonna happen at the EDP blog, so keep an eye on that for the next week (don't be afraid of the external link, even when MySpace tries to frighten you).

That reminds me, I had another Comic-Con anxiety dream the other night. In this one, we had just entered the dealer's room, and I discovered that I was too tall to fit in certain parts of the room. To my embarrassment, I had to hunker down until I was almost on all fours to get through those places. Then I got to the Halo-8 table, where Matt Pizzolo was trying to be audacious and wild by precariously balancing the table atop two scantily clad young women, so the DVDs of Skelter were falling all over the floor. It was about then that I realized I had forgotten to check into the hotel, so I left the convention center to go take care of it, but the entire landscape of downtown San Diego had changed while I was inside and I had no clue how to get to our hotel anymore. Then I woke up.

If any of that stuff actually occurs, you'll see photos on the EDP blog.

More anxiety, plus photos.

Going up to Santa Fe tomorrow night to screen Gimme Skelter at a horror workshop. After the screening, I'll be doing some sort of talk -- mostly answering questions, I hope. I actually fear the public speaking more than getting on an airplane, which I'm doing on Tuesday.

And speaking of that plane, it'll be taking me to San Diego (well, one hopes) for Comic-Con. Now, you might not be aware that aside from this blog, I also have one at the EDP website. More often than not, I just cross-post the same stuff there that you get here, but sometimes the EDP site gets a bonus post or two -- and during Comic-Con it's gonna get a ton of bonus posts, because I can use Flickr to post photos directly to the EDP blog via my iPhone.

I can post pictures to my MySpace photo album from the iPhone, but not directly to the MySpace blog, and I can't promise I'll have the time or energy to post 'em to both places during the throes of the Con -- so if you're interested at all in seeing what kind of nonsense I'm partaking of, you should keep an eye on the EDP blog, starting Tuesday, July 22nd, through Monday, the 28th. Don't be afraid to follow the external link, no matter how scary MySpace makes it sound -- I assure you, you'll be fine.

Man, reading over this entry I realize that it would make no sense to anyone if it were sent back in time just a few years. Hell, it might not make sense to anyone right now, for that matter.

Uncle Fatty.

I keep forgetting to mention, my short story Uncertain Times at Uncle Fatty's is now available for download over at the Cenotaph Road store, and it's a mere $1.99. I wrote this one in hopes of getting into a carnival-themed anthology, but it wasn't a traditional horror story and didn't make it in. It spins off some characters from a script called Whistle Bait that I co-wrote with John Howard, and I like it a lot. You can buy the download by clicking here.

Man, it's crazy, but I'm more excited about the San Diego Comic-Con than I have been in about a dozen years. A big part of that is getting back into doing comics with Drawtard. Which means it'll be especially crushing when we can't even give copies away, I guess.

Comic-Con anxiety and Skelter stuff.

I had my first San Diego Comic-Con anxiety dream the other night -- a little late in the season, but other than that, pretty much like the ones from previous years (which is to say, stupid). In this one, Howie, Pat Rogers and I were arriving at the convention center for Preview Night when the security guards stopped us. They wanted to confiscate our cell phones, not just because the use of phones was no longer allowed at the con, but because the phones have cameras built in and there would be no photography allowed anywhere at any time during the convention (sorry, CosPlay girls!). We also weren't allowed to carry our backpacks, which meant Howie and I would have to lug around all the copies of Drawtard in our mitts. The three of us headed back to our hotel to drop off the backpacks (our phones had already been taken away), but we got lost in the building and had to climb up through a rocky tunnel. We emerged a couple floors above to find ourselves in a hoity-toit restaurant where all the beautiful people stared at us with disdain. Then I woke up.

Speaking of Drawtard, here's Howie's cover art:

In other news, I turned in my draft of the treatment for The Centerfold to Tim Seeley (Hack/Slash) a couple days ago. Next step is to break it down into four separate issues, then I'll start scripting the thing.

Halo-8 will have a table at Comic-Con, and apparently Kurly Tlapoyawa and I will be doing some sort of signing of Gimme Skelter DVDs, so come on by and say hey. I'm guessing that other Skelter folks who make it to the Con will show up at the table, as well. And while we're on the subject of Skelter, if you've seen the movie, please head over to Amazon.com and write a review of the flick. I'm told that Amazon customers respond well to the good reviews, as do I, so get on over there and tell the folks that Skelter is worth buying.

Eddie and the boys.

My buddy Nathan Long posted this video over on his blog, and it reminded me how much I used to like Tenpole Tudor. I always felt like they were the version of Adam and the Ants that you couldn't beat up.

Name, rank, serial number and Don Adams’ favorite TV show.

Your narrator under the delightful influence of powerful sedatives:

I had that tooth pulled on Wednesday. The sedative wasn't supposed to put me completely out, but I'm such a lightweight it just nailed me. The last thing I remember is saying "I feel a little loopy," and then I was gone, baby. Apparently I spent quite some time telling the oral surgeon and everybody else in the room how dang cool Star Trek is (the original series, of course) and even told them how my buddy Don Adams is a big Trek fan, as well.

I woke up in a back room somewhere with the anesthesiologist (who looked like Robert Forster) holding my hand and slapping it to try and bring me around. Jen was nearby laughing like a nut and I'm told I said "Hey lady!" when I saw her. They made me leave via the delivery door so as not to upset the decent folks up front. I snapped that photo with my iPhone as we were driving away, but I don't really remember doing it. Jen decided that I was such a mess she couldn't leave me at home alone for fear she'd find me on the bathroom floor like Lenny Bruce, so she told me she was gonna take me to her grandparents' house. She says I got all weepy and wailed "I don't want to be a burden to anyone!" but I don't remember that, either.

In any case, the tooth came out real easy and it doesn't hurt at all. And now I have the official Hillbilly Gap to go with my Kentucky/West Virginia roots.

Finally!

Hot damn! This news has apparently been making the rounds of the Tokusatsu boards for a while now, but I just found out this morning that the TV show I've been writing for is actually gonna be on TV -- KAMEN RIDER DRAGON KNIGHT has been picked up by the CW Network and will begin airing on Saturday mornings beginning in either the fall or in February, 2009.

So if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go caper wildly around the house. Meanwhile, you can check out the trailer again:

A lotta Tlapoyawa.

Have you seen this terrifying Google Street View thing? I thought the satellite photos were creepy until I checked this out. And of course, first order of business was to look at the building where Don Adams lives in Hollywood. But what do I see?

Mr. Kurly Tlapoyawa wandering into the street.

No, really.

Crap, MySpace won't let me post the photo but click on that "View Larger Map" link and you'll see it.

Insert obligatory dirty joke here.

Two-and-a-half hours of dodging a blinding ball of claws on Sunday led to this:

That's the formerly-fluffy Dave (a.k.a. The Vice-Chancellor of Fluffington) with a suave new haircut. All the other animals are still making fun of him but I sure have less vacuuming to do. For the version with fluff, see this post.
