the magic christians rock. a great show good band and cyril jordan doesn't look any diferent than he did on the groovies lp covers. my only problem was it was too short. it was mostly original material with a few choice covers, a stellar version of the beatles any time at all, the who's out on the street,"killed" was that moon at the kit
two things about clem burke, maybe three, one he is amazing, seeing him with blondie in theatre's or arena's is one thing but 5 ft away, twirling sticks, windmill rolls leave me breathless, amazing. two is having just finished a blondie tour with all of its rock star accomadations, imagine my surprise when i entered the bar and saw clem crawling around the stage setting up his own kit. humbling? inspring, all for the love of rock n roll!
i think they are playing maxwell's sunday night, they are worth checking out and i am glad i drug my lazy butt out at midnight.
oh and when was the last time you saw someone lay their bass down on the stage and use it as a surfboard. ------------------------------------------------
todays remnants of a hurricane reminds me of little stevens underground garage fest a few years ago. if you were there you know why. the only thing missing is fighter jets.
------------------------------------------------ i just finished pamela des barres book. it was good and i like that kind of story but it does become the same tale repeated after awhile. onto stephen davis new book, "watch you bleed*****the saga o guns n' roses". i've liked but never loved the band but like the eagles and doors i like reading about this bunch of a**holes. oh the tales they tell.
-------------------------------------------------stay warm n dry and........

the parties over----+ the real season begins---pay attention
Current mood: tantalizingmisperception

for the first time in recent memory i think the republican nominee for president is a decent guy. i think that he is wrong about most of the major issues in the campaign but i don't get the impression that he trying to hurt people. senator mccain's speech last night was fine. i think that the maverick is rewriting history about his independence from the party line but that does seem to come with the territory. his delivery isn't his greatest strength but he got his message out. running on your history and war record is admirable but comes with it's own backlash. so let the fun and games commence, 9 weeks until decision day. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ tired n torn, working todays tunes, kevin k cool ways, the jet boys{the french band} larger than life, excellent set of dolls/mott influenced tunes, diamond dogs/jeff dahl atlantic crossing, a good split cd with jeff dahl doing a killer cover of rose tattoo's nice boys, iggy pop skull ring, i don't know how this sold but i loved this record, lou reed live in italy, i think lou's finest solo band, ripping threw his catalog, the mummps fatal charm, power pop poppy power, river city rebels hate to be loved, a 21st century glitter/punk band produced by sylvain, the racketeers mad for the racket, a supergroup of sorts, brian james, wayne kramer, duff, clem burke et al in a 1 off studio project, red planet lets get ripper, more proto glam/punk, izzt stradlin and the ju ju hounds, my favorite gunner and rick richards tearing it up, the superbees high volume, agreat modern garage band that passed too soon and ronnie wood now look, a veritable treasure trove of soulful rock n roll with the ample support of bobby womack and the usual suspects. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- magic christian plays in philly tonight. cyril jordan and clem burke, i have heard good things. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- looking for the flow and i need to tap the energy.

sub title for todays ramblings: is tina fey just another mean girl?
well, well, well, the governor has spoken. i would think that it would go w/o saying that i didn't agree with much of the content of her speech but the delivery was very good. form over content imagine that. her attacks on senator obama come with the terrtory but she should be called on the mischaracterization of his proposals. i am anxious to hear senator mccain's words tonight, last week, barack obama managed to disagree with him and avoided calling him unamerican or a bad person. i wonder if that high road is still open. which leads me to "americas mayor" . what an incredible load of santimonious nonsense, i am so sick and tired of that "karl rove" mantra that somehow eqautes democrats with terrorists. you would think that we would be past that. if these ninnies actually believe that wouldn't a civil war be more appropriate than an election.
before i move on, small government, it always sound nice and it too is a mantra of the republican party. it then is always a surprise to remember that goverment grew faster and larger under the 2 biggest proponents of small government, ronald reagan and the current president. as usual reality takes a sad back seat to perception. they(republicans) believe that the government has no buisness in your day to day existence only in your bedroom.
enough for now. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
the us open moves on and i haven't seen enough.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ let's rock,,,,,,,,led zepeelin how the west was won?, hole celebrity skin, i think she's wacky but i like her, she is a rock star, kevin k hollywood and cool ways, the raconteurs consolers of the lonely, janes addiction janes addiction, jim ford point of no return, matthew sweet sunshine lies, alice cooper muscle of love, todd rundgren live at sigma sound 1971 and guns n roses no refrain. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "i got blisters on my fingers"

this is a day for the plastic ono band. primal scream please pull the pain and feel the burn.
the republican national convention, i must confess that i missed the presidents speech and senator thompson's{the 2 hr premiere of the new 90210 seemed a little more important but were probably neck and neck in the fiction/reality sweepstakes}. i did catch most of senator liebermans speech? i didn't expect to agree with the content of the speech but wow! was his delivery dull. and dull is an understatement. it goes w/o saying that i thought he was wrong about most of the issues he brandished but did i mention dull.
governor palin. i promised myself that i wouldn't wallow in this mud but just 1 thing. well maybe 2, having a teenage daughter who is pregnant does not make you a bad mother nor does it make the daughter a bad person, my question, is why would you subject the daughter to the crucible that is modern american politics? they{she} had to know that both sides of the aisle would make this an issue. i don't think that it should be but the reality is there. it was the governors decision to dive into these murky waters, the daughter is an unfortunate passenger.
the boys are back this week and it should be interesting to see how they made out in cannes.?
into the darkness-------silverhead 16 & savaged, one of my favorite lp covers, alice cooper love it to death, "i got a baby's brain and an old mans heart", the hold steady boys and girls in america, todd rundgren sigma sound studios 1971, great covers of ohh baby baby and hold her tight, jim ford the point of no return, more of the untold story, matthew sweet sunshine lies, richard lloyd and ivan julian the man has great taste in guitarists, and darkness darkness, guns n roses no refrain, i need a punk version of heartbreak hotel.
life is the ultomate exrension of the chaos theory!

labor day dawns and a new world rising or i got nothing
Current mood: isthisagreatcoverorwhat?
Category: isthisagreatcoverorwhat? Games
in deference to labor day, i'm taking the day off. but just a few passing thoughts.
the republican national convention is cutting back all non-essential events in deference to the storm hitting the gulf coast. a) locking the barn after the fox has already been there and b) better late than never.
i make no apologies about my love of teen dramas---ladies and gentleman gossip girl and one tree hill return this evening you will know where to find me. i've said it before i will say it again one tree hill, 6 seasons ago began with the premise of 2 baskeball playing half brothers in love with the same punk rock girl. how could i not love it. the little kid in this show may be the next marlon brando!!!
us open tennis, 90210 marathon and things to do. bye.

days of future past and i’d like to explain
Current mood: ishouldhavegivenitmorethought

it's sunday morning, well it was 15 minutes ago, i've been been listening to stevie wonder's songs in the key of life and jim ford's sounds of our time this week and i've been thinking about governor sarah palin. {she really does resemble tina fey} i've been struck by the authenticity of wonder and ford and the perceived cyncism of the palin choice. both vice presidential candidates bring almost nothing to the table in terms of electoral math. senator biden brings a wealth of experience and tongue that more often than not that gets him in trouble. what does governor palin bring? this is not meant as an attack but a sincere question? my first thought when i heard her name was who? i do follow these things and make no claim to be able to name the governor of all fifty states but once in print i recognize their name. her experience is less than 2 years as a governor and she was the mayor of at best a moderately sized city. it is an incredibly cynical view to believe that the 18 million clinton voters would vote for her just because she is a woman. they are both women but have diametrically opposite political points of view.
governor palin is a conservative catholic. if what i have read is true very conservative. anti abortion (a very complicated issue that is not my litmus test becaues i have very complicated thoughts on it too), less than accepting of gay rights, gun control? she is the embodiment of bush/rove republican and hardly considered a maverick. she has excited the far right base but after eights years of the far right ideology is that really what the country is looking toward. when i say country, i mean the millions of people who are democrat or republican because you have to choose one, not people who think exactly what platform preaches.
in an era of change and unrest maybe the idea was to pick someone who represented a simpler time. the 50's. she may turn out to be an engaging, intelligent, politician but the next few weeks will be spent introducing her to the american public. still, on the face of it, i am left with many questions, not the least of which is who?
------------------------------------------------ the unofficial last sunday of the summer is upon us and here we go ......stevie wonder songs in the key of life, jim ford the sounds of our times, john phillips pay pack and follow, it's a shame that his daughter was back in the news again. the hearbreaker demoes again n again, gram parsons grievous angel and the rolling stones exile on main street. ------------------------------------------------ have a good day, a great time and eat plenty of pasta.

labor day weekend, a time to celebrate the salt of the earth. i've got more than a few memories of the weekend that center on wildwood but we'll get to that. -----------------------------------------------
day after reverie of senator obama's speech. i've been saying for a while i think he will win by double digits come november. i was amazed by some peoples reactions to his speech and policy plans. who would be against alternative fuels? i understand that oil will always be a necesity but why not have options? who would be against keeping assault weapons off our streets? it does sometimes boggle the mind. you really don't know what goes on behind closed doors. ----------------------------------------------- i always get a kick from friends status updates. they are wonderful in their idiosyncracies, pas un mot, me i have pretty much concentrated on music to the exclusion of other things, no matter where i ind myself here i am and that is just from the last hour and the pg versions. i'm leaving these anonymous but you know who you are.
-----------------------------------------------
cary had an interesting blog the other day, pick your 20 song fantasy rolling stones concert, you should check it out. you will find my living room concert there. ----------------------------------------------- and by the way to say that it doesn't matter if you vote is to say you get what you deserve. i need only remind you o november 2000. ----------------------------------------------- when the fall is all you have left, the fall becomes very important.

let the word go forth from this day on

where does one begin with senator obama's speech? it seems to be damning with feint praise to call it great. it was moving inspiring and entertaining. it was many things and most of all it was a rallying cry. it's been a long time since a democratic candidate called the republicans out on the bull shit. the little things, the petty things. he managed to challenge and contradict john mccain w/o calling him unamerican or a bad person. he called him what he is, just someone who is wrong.
america as a leader, alternative fuels, think of the good that it would do for the world. think of the good that it would do for the economy. it's particularly thrilling that he asked us to think. i could and probably will go on about this in the future but for now just let his words speak for themselves.
let freedom ring and on the anniversary of dr. kings speech. only in america. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- i just finished pretty vacant the history of uk punk. it was pretty good but covered the same ground that many books on this subject. two things though, it always amazes me when there are factual or anecdotal error in a non-fiction book. if i'm aware of them here they are probably in every book that i am not aware of them. did you follow that?
the one chapter that contained new info for me was the piece about the death of nancy spungen and sid vicious. there were always rumours but he names names and writes of a confession. interesting. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- just started pamela des barres latest offering, "let's spend the night together". a tome to groupies and rock n roll muse's. so far so good, i am looking forward to chapters on the la glitter scene. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- how about this......the rollin stones love you live, hookfoot hookfoot, the heartbreakers demoes, amy winehouse unplugged and electrified, jim ford the sounds of our times, edgar winter rebel road, stevie wonder songs in the key of life, living in a pastime paradise, the smithereens live in concert, the count bishops the best of, bruce springsteen & the e street band hammersmith london 75, --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- does music make you think? it made stevie wonder.

down at the rock n roll club pt 28

rob was sitting on the floor leaning on his amp. the band were wrapping up a rehersal. they had been putting the finishing touches on a new song, "the politics of hanging out". he was happy with the way it was turning out. it could still use a little work, he thought, but it was almost there. as they were packing their equipment, chris began to play a riff, it was simple and repetitive but it sounded good. rob immediately remembered some words that he had been working with and told chris to "keep playing". the lyrics weren't finished but had been swirling in his head, haunting him. "slow it down abit, chris" rob muttered, and begin to hum the melody and sing softly.
"white lines in the mirror an aching in my brain flooded with the feeling that nothing beside remains
white lines on your face behind heavy sunken eyes looking past the powder for someone i'd recognize"
"faster now chris, pick it up" and he howled.
white lines are a neverending rain that leaves you wanting more bring the noise + leave the pain when your looking for a score
white lines are just random f*ck*ng lies"
it didn't have much form but it rocked up a storm. nancy had been standing off to the side sorting threw some papers preparing for tomorrows meeting. she inhaled slowly, looked over at rob, exhaled and shook her head, slowly. she was thinking that it was a long way from "nice girl" and a little hypocritical but there was no denying it's power. she wanted to say something but felt it better to leave it alone.
rob was wiping down his strings and saw nikki's name that was carved into the neck. he took a moment and wondered if she'd recognize herself. chris was heading toward the door and mumbled goodnight and "rob i didn't hear it with all that power."rob shrugged, "sometimes we just go where the feeling leads us."
