6/12/08: I’m a registered geek
Current mood: adventurous
Category: Life
Yes, I bought my tickets to the San Diego Comic-Con.
Aaah.. I can just hear some of my friends making fun of me already. I'm sure the words 'nerd' and 'geek' are going to come up quite often.
Oh well. I really don't care. I am SUPER excited about it. I need that geeky side of me to come out and play, and what better place to do it than among a ton of other geeks?! Plus I actually know some people who will also be there, so I won't feel like a complete loser. Who knows, maybe I'll meet some cool famous people and we'll become best friends, and then you'll all be jealous. Yea, never going to happen, but hey, a girl can dream.
Oh yea... On a side note, I have just finished reading Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. Yes, I have jumped on the Twilight band wagon that everybody seems to be on. I enjoyed it a lot. If I was a teenage girl again, I know I would be completely obsessed with the series, but now a young person of 24, I still find myself crushing on Edward. Who wouldn't?! He's cute. He's strong. He's smart. And he's a vampire. Is there anything hotter than a hot vampire who only craves you? Nope. However, I'm not as crazy for him as some people, although I completely understand it.
I will read New Moon starting Friday, so until then I am reading Bonk by Mary Roach. It's an awesome book. I find myself laughing and learning at the same time, with a few giggles in between. It's pretty much about science and sex, and the studies, experiments, and theories people have come up with over the years regarding sex and anatomy. I even shared a bit of the book today at work. It wasn't even the best part of the book, yet people thought it was great. It basically had to do with a factory that manufactures sex toys.
That's it for now.

6/3/08: The Hef and I had a moment
Current mood: cheerful
Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities
I met Hugh Hefner! Yup. I went to BEA....that's BookExpo America for those that don't know, and I saw Hugh Hefner there signing books. I walked by and thought, what the hell... it's Hugh Hefner!! I have to MEET him. It's not enough to just say I saw him. So I stand in line to get a book signed. There were a few very blond women in front of me, so I figured he wouldn't even look at me, but luckily me and my pink hair were noticed. He smiled at me, signed my book, I practically laughed and said "Thank you SOOO much." He responded: "No problem. Thank you for coming today." Yea... so that was our shared moment. I was hoping to see the girls next door there, but alas I was not that lucky. Oh well.
It's been a busy week for me. Yesterday I stood outside in the sun for about 13 hours to get in to see the Jimmy Kimmel taping. Coldplay was going to be on and I was NOT going to miss out on that! So, if you watch tomorrow's show, you just might see me screaming for them. There's a good chance you might see me since I was in the front row, and the cameramen were in my face a few times during the taping. Maybe it was because I was screaming and jumping around so much...I don't know. Then, after the show we saw a member of The Strokes, and we said hello to him as well. All in all I think I had a pretty eventful week.

5/23/08: "Say, Louis from Louisiana, how many great loves do you think you get in a lifetime?"
Current mood: awake
Category: Music
Louis: "Great loves?" Carrie: "That's the question on deck." Louis: "Well, maybe one, if you're lucky"
Yeah, I'm watching Sex and the City. Why? Because I'm bored and I can't sleep!! I didn't even have a lot of caffeine today. By the way, this part was from the first episode of Season 5. I wouldn't be watching Sex and the City normally right now, but I don't feel like watching one of the movies I have, and I don't have any Netflix to watch.
Since I am bored and the rain is keeping me awake, I have decided to once again create a top 5 list about music:
Top 5 Music Groups That I Heard About From My Family (The Beatles and U2 don't count, since they're pretty much a given):
1. Oasis (My brother Nathan introduced them to me. He is always the first to tell me of a new Gallagher quote.)
2. Beastie Boys (I remember growing up and hearing my brother play them from his room. Then years later, I loved hearing my brother play them on his radio show. He was one of the funniest coolest DJs around, and every once in a while he would dedicate a Beastie Boys song to me. Thanks Nate!! Joker was one of the greatest DJs I've ever heard and I'm glad you did your show for ten years. After you left for college, I would listen to you at home and feel like you weren't that far away.)
3. Rage Against The Machine (Once again, Nathan introduced me to them. I was in high school. I didn't understand all the issues they talked about, but I have a better understanding now. Plus, I FINALLY got to see them live recently. I think there are some pictures on here somewhere on my random pics. I have purple hair and big sunglasses on. I had an awesome time. I also got to see Public Enemy again as well as Cypress Hill and Sage Francis.)
4. Led Zeppelin (My dad's influence on me. I have been listening to them since I was a little girl when my dad used to swing me around using me as a guitar. I'll always remember how he used to talk really loudly over some lyrics in The Lemon Song, basically the line that says "squeeze my lemon till the juice runs down my leg".)
5. Soul Coughing (My dad and I used to go to the local Tower Records in Monterey Park, and we used to go straight to the listening stations and just pick random groups to listen to. My dad started listening to Soul Coughing, and then proceeded to scream at me with his headphones on about how great they sounded. After I walked away in embarrassment, he bought the latest Soul Coughing album and gave it to me.)
Honorable mentions: Buddy Holly, Fats Domino, and CCR: My dad would play these three, and the topic of Louisiana would always come up. He would always start talking about the good ol' days on the bayou. He was born in Louisiana and believes himself to be a Cajun boy at heart.
Atmosphere, Sage Francis, Wu-Tang Clan…ok whatever my brother used to play on his Politic Different show: This is just a small thank you to my brother for being one of the best influences in my life and being one of the few people who understands how important music is in life. And for that reason, I will also thank you for your OBSESSION with Guns 'N' Roses… or just Axl Rose in general

5/19/08: "I don’t look at myself in the mirror because I’m a narcissist...
Current mood: complacent
I simply like to watch myself exist." Sage Francis
Ok… book signings. I haven't discussed this in a while.
Top Chef: Dave, CJ, and Betty came to the store to sign. It was exciting for me because I really wanted to see CJ. I really wanted to see how tall he was. Yea… the man is 6'8" and poor 5'4" me felt so small… but in a good way
Jimmy Carter: Good signing. Could have been better if there were more people, but it still went pretty smoothly. Plus, I got to meet him! That was exciting. He said, "Hello, thank you for coming today." And I said, "No, thank YOU for coming today." OK. I was totally lame, but seriously I didn't know what to say to the man! Plus the woman in front of me was trying to chit chat with him and the security people were trying to rush us through.
Barbara Walters: Umm… She only drinks Fiji water. She requested that there be apples and oranges for her and fresh black coffee available by the time she arrived. Other than that, she seemed nice. According to a fellow bookseller, she has very soft hands.
James Frey: I don't know why I'm mentioning this signing. I don't like him. He's a liar. Why did he write another book after everyone found out he lied?! I know his new book is a fiction, but really, do you really want to read a book by this man? No.
Here are the signings I'm looking forward to: Kevin Nealon, Evan Handler, and David Sedaris

RIP Ben. I’m so sorry
So, poor Ben has died. Yes, my mom's final fish has officially died. My mom had three fish. The first one didn't last one night so my mom never gave it a name. The other two my mom of course named Matt and Ben. Yes, my mom is referring to Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. Very typical if you've ever met my mom.
Anyway, I discovered Ben floating upside down about 45 minutes ago. I didn't want to tell my mom, but I had to. She had formed a kind of attachment to him even though he's a fish and fish don't last that long to begin with. That's all I have to say. Rest in Peace Ben, I hope you find your pal Matt in fish heaven.

I dream of Shorty
Current mood: artistic
Category: Dreams and the Supernatural
So, I had this dream:
I was dog sitting Shorty (my brother Nathan's dog) and I'm watching tv. Some Yeah Yeah Yeahs music video was on tv and I told my mom about how I've seen them at two concerts (which I actually have) when I notice something happening to Shorty. He's small enough already, but he gradually starts shrinking. I keep looking away and when I look back at him he gets smaller and smaller. So I return him to Nathan later and tell him that Shorty kept shrinking. At this point, he fits in the palm of my hand. Nathan then calmly apologizes to me and tells me that Shorty has been sick lately, so the shrinking is ok.
I have no clue what this dream means, but it has been stuck in my head for a few days now so I thought I'd share it in hopes that someone will eventually analyze it and tell me what's going on.

3/12/08: Strangers waiting up and down the boulevard...
Current mood: angsty
Category: Life
...their shadows searching in the night.
My March Top 5 Lists: (basically a couple top 5 lists of things I need to do)
Top 5 Things I'm Thinking About: 1. What am I going to do with all the junk in my room? And, will I clean it in time before my brother, Nicole, and Shorty get here? 2. My film project: How am I going to shoot it? When am I going to shoot it? And how many meetings can I squeeze in before it's time to start shooting? 3. Sleep: I love sleep and yet I get a huge burst of energy around midnight. 4. Movies: What should I see next and what should I buy next? 5. Music: Why why WHY do I keep playing Journey on my iTunes?
Top 5 Goals: 1. write write write. And when I think I can't write anymore, keep writing. 2. Learn: try something new. Be open to new people, new activities, and new ideas. 3. Don't be lazy: I'm a procrastinator sometimes, and that needs to stop. 4. Keep on cooking: I absolutely LOVE to cook, so why don't I cook more? Money issues, yes. Time constraints, yes. However, I know I can still find time and money to eat and cook what I want. Maybe if I had people to cook for, I would be more motivated. Anyone want to come over to my place and eat some food for free? 5. Stay in touch with friends.

2/11/08: 3 AM and I’m still up
Current mood: satisfied
Category: Writing and Poetry
Most of you aren't aware of this, but I have been reading Norwegian Wood for quite some time. It's taken me months to read this book, not because it's a bad book but because I've only been reading it at work, and those of you that know me know that it's hard for me to keep quiet long enough to read even a few pages in one sitting. Anyway, I decided to take the book home today and read some. To my surprise, I really get into it and finish the whole thing. I didn't have that much farther to go, maybe about sixty pages or so.
I must say that I thought it was a great book. It was beautiful and sad, and parts of it really hit me in a way that I didn't think possible. Maybe it's because I've been in a very reflective mood these days. It usually happens after a road trip, so I'm not surprised by it. Well I just happened to read it at a time when I was able to get it and appreciate it. I try not to read books like this because, well, I don't want to. I read other things that either amuse me in a funny sarcastic way or read books that educate me about people and society. I just wanted to say that I'm glad I read it, and I feel like I didn't waste my time reading it. I always get mad when I finish a book I didn't particularly like, and then think back to all the time I devoted to reading it.
That's it really. I just wanted to announce that I finally finished this book. It's not a book for everybody, but for those that absolutely love Murakami, I totally see why. I guess this means I have to read it least one more of his books to see if he is actually a brilliant writer or if he just seemed to get lucky on one book (although I doubt that's the case).

2/10/08: The Butcher
Current mood: blustery
I dedicate this blog to one of the most awesome creations: Guitar Hero.
Yes, I too have become a big fan of Guitar Hero. It is one of the, if not best video games ever. I've always wanted to be a rock star, and now I can be with this wonderful game. I haven't had that much fun in a while, well, it least since my brother introduced me to the other Wii games. Anyways, I just played it two weekends ago, and I LOVED it.
The Butcher is the name of the rock group that I created. I think it fits me well, considering I have that itty bitty (ok, not so itty bitty) obsession with Daniel Day-Lewis and his movies.
That's all I really wanted to say in this blog. Guitar Hero is awesome. Oh yea, Feedback and Sonic Death Monkey are awesome too. Thank you to Nathan and Nicole for showing me how to play this game. It is just another reason for me to get a Wii. Oh yes, thank you to Shorty for putting up with the Guitar Hero playing since I know it probably hurt your sensitive ears.

2/4/08: Beware of J-15
Current mood: drained
Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities
If you are ever in the Sacramento area and decide to see an IMAX movie...don't sit at seat J 15. I went with Nathan and Nicole to see the new U23D movie, and of course I get one of the only broken seats in the whole place. The seat was completely disconnected from the seat frame. I put it back on top of the frame, but I was afraid the whole time that in the middle of a great U2 song like Sunday Bloody Sunday I would suddenly find myself on the floor. Every time my seat creaked I tried my best not to move. Other than that, it was an awesome experience.
The movie was AWESOME. Yes, there were a couple things that bugged me like the selection of songs used, and the random words floating at me during The Fly, but hey it's U2 and they are awesome live AND in 3D. It started out great with the image of Bono standing in his usual Bono way, and just as he starts to sing he runs his hand through his hair. It was the moment when I thought, "Yes, this is what it feels like at a U2 concert." I even got all excited when they came on the screen, as if they were performing right in front of me.... ok, not completely the same as in concert, but I did feel that gitty excitement when I saw Adam and Larry.
One of the best parts of the film was when Bono and Adam shared a moment. It was so cute. Plus, there is the time in Love and Peace when Bono and Larry sing together...that's always nice.
So, my friends, if you ever feel like you want to see a great 3D movie, check out U23D because it is freaking awesome. Even if you're not the biggest U2 fan, it's still cool to check out the 3D effects. It's amazing how far technology has gone.
