Whats up at Oreoman.Com/and Myspace/ Upper Sandusky.

It's that time of the week again Blog time.  First order of business is Oreoman.Com I have added 4 buttons that act as links to a pod cast that I was on last week called the Corey and Joel Radio Show the link is below: http://www.coreyandjoelradio.com/archives/2008/01/corey_and_joel_158.html

You can also see an interview I did on Fox 2 Detroit: http://www.myfoxdetroit.com/myfox/pages/Home/Detail;jsessi..737AE557D5B51F68874A03035AE718F4?c..4042940&version=1&locale=EN-US&layoutCode=VSTY&pageId=1.1.1&sflg=1

The Detroit Free Press article I spoke about in my last Blog: http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2008801200533

I also added a button that leads to this Blog.

Secondly what's new on Myspace I edited and added a video of a show I did in Las Vegas I published the 2 bits I am asked about most often the Aerosmith bit and the Weather piece you can check it out @ http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=2088003946

Oh! and I added a slide show from the Detroit Comedy Festival the captions aren't visible right now I'm not sure why but I will do my best to rectify it.

Lastly this weekend I worked at a two night fund raiser in Upper Sandusky OH for Wyandot hospital. Of course I had to answer the usual questions about my allegiance to the Wolverines of  Michigan University.  That is just something you have to go threw if you work down here.

Another thing I have come to learn is this:  after years of doing this one of the few constants is if you perform in a small town they always tend to be super receptive I think it's because they don't get to see a lot of entertainment.  They don't have a comedy club the only comedy they see is on T.V. this group was awesome both nights laughing in all the right spots executing the Monkey joke to perfection and after both shows I met some of the nicest friendliest people.  One woman even brought me cake tonight because she felt bad about me sitting in my hotel room (a suite with a hot tub, two rooms and a kitchen).  The doctor who hosted the show (KK Solacoff) both nights was funny and very nice he had me over his house with a few couples after the show last night and they had some food and we laughed and goofed around till like 1:00 am, The young lady who was my contact Rene' Sherman was so on the ball it was really cool to see them make a bunch of money for a great cause and I think a good time was had by all.

Detroit Comedy Festival/Detroit Free Press Article

Last night was the opening night of the Detroit International Comedy Festival and a fun night it was. It was a night of headlining comics from the Detroit area and I headlined the show. It was great working and hanging out with my friends. As headliners we're seldom booked at the same time in the same place. Before the show I made sure to take some pictures and videos while I mingled. I had a chance to sit down with Corey and Joel, two local stand-up comics who have created a pod cast with great success. I will post a link to that interview as soon as it becomes available.

During my set I did my two newest jokes I'm working on up front. (At the beginning of me set) They got laughs but still need work. I look forward to working them out.

Afterward, I was able to see my cousins Renee, Dave, Patty and Jessica. They braved the cold to come out and laugh their ICE OFF! (that is the festival's theme) All in all, it was a very enjoyable night.

Now, I must move on to the article that was in the Detroit Free Press Sunday morning. They say that there is no such thing as bad press. I have to keep reminding myself of that. I only had an issue with one specific line in the article.  I felt it was a back handed compliment, minus the compliment. Here it is:

"Green's material isn't groundbreaking, but his observational delivery and on-stage exuberance make it work. He rarely seems cynical or angry." Detroit Free Press by Erin Podolsky

My premises are not ground breaking. That's merely one location of where the originality, or 'groundbreaking' material can exist. I use very common premises like drinking and driving, buying tampons, differences between men and women, etc. Another location for the 'groundbreaking' material is the punch line, or the joke and my jokes, my punch lines are at least unique. For her to say it isn't ground breaking is to not understand the format of the entertainment you're reporting on and it really got under my skin. Can you tell?  My delivery may not be angry but my Blogs are.

As I tend to do when I have something bothering me, like this one line in the article, I ran the issue by some people in my life I respect. (Thankfully), most of them felt I was being petty. So maybe that's true and I'll have to accept it but I also felt that this one line was a slight on the entire Detroit comic scene. In one breathe I'm being touted as the funniest comic you've never heard of from Detroit and in the next it's being stated that I'm not groundbreaking. What is that saying about my contemporaries?

One more thing and I'll let this go forever because that's how I deal with things.  There is a thought in this industry that I have had to battle for years that you can't get famous in this business if you don't live in N.Y. or L.A.  Maybe it is true and maybe that's because we can't even get the proper respect from our local media. This was supposed to be a simple story about the First Annual Detroit Comedy Festival not a review of my act. Lastly, make no mistake, had she given me a usable quote I would be splashing it on every web page I have. In fairness, I will be linking it to my website so you can read it there. If I am being petty, you can let me know here.  I just felt that her statement didn't serve the story at all.

Mike Green in the Detroit Free Press SUNDAY.
Category: News and Politics

                                      ZyWeb

Hey just a note: Last night I was interviewed for the Free Press http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/frontpage.  My first impression was that it was in regard to the Detroit Comedy Festival.  After the interview it looks like it may be a story about me/ and the DCF.  Either way if your interested pick up a paper on Sunday.

That is All!

Deja Vu!!
Current mood: content

Well the long trip down to Central Missouri is over the shows were awesome the crowds were to I think it went well.  One thing I forgot was how hot the college girls are down there.  For what ever reason maybe it's something in the water but I still can't get over the shear number of women V. Men that there are down there.  Oh and they are not shy!  If I have one peice of advice for the single young comedian it would be Visit the Deja Vu in MO.  Every Night when I got back to my room ALONE I had to go over my wedding vows in my head.

This week I only have one show Sunday at the Comedy Castle which will kick off the highly anticipated Detroit Comedy Festival!!  Be there or be Square.248-542-9900 for Reservations.

Missouri / The Blue Room

So you get to a town like Osage or Lake of the Ozarks Mo, and you hope that there is a crowd and the room is half full you meet the M.C. who is the local radio guy then you introduce yourself to the middle act.  He usually headlines................ The show starts the crowd fills in. The MC does his job.  Next thing you know your on stage doing your little jokes and everything hits.  It was a super receptive crowd tonight in a room you wouldn't expect it from it was a long long drive and you only hope it turns out well and makes the 10 hours you spent in the car worth it and low and behold it was.  Off to Columbia for the weekend at Deja Vu.  I haven't worked here in years and hope it goes as well as the last time.  To indicate how long it's been since I've been here I middled for a guy named Dan Whittney then better known now as Larry The Cable Guy.  Oh I told him how I usually Headline.

2008 and blogging!!

Okay so it is the year 2008.  Time I guess for the Mike Green State of the union address.  I am going to try to Blog more often this year, call it a resolution.  The only response I've ever received on here was when someone hated me.  The 20th is the Detroit Comedy Festival I have a couple private parties in Sandusky OH.  Oh and I have my dates for Las Vegas and Atlantic City.  I will be posting them on my Electronic Press Kit.  Kris Peters and I are still working on a book.  The Film Be Funny was just submitted to a couple Big Film Festivals keep your fingers crossed on that one.

I had the flu New Years Eve and for the first time in 22 years thought I was gonna hurl on stage.  If it wasn't for Rich Higginbottoms good nature I might have.  I just said hey Rich can you come up here for a minute and he did without question.  I went in back puked washed out my mouth and went back to work.

POW!  I wish I had felt better to enjoy my New Years Eve but it is what it was and that's it.

RE: Sorry Houston!

I just heard the act and thought I needed to express my opinion. I for one am from New York so no cowboy here patna' I really think you need some new material....how did you even get on xm radio? I see plenty of talent here in Houston's "Laffstop" Get some new material and you might get a chance to do a gig there someday.

My most recent reply:

What I find most funny about your e-mail is that you feel the need to give me advice.  The fact is I am on XM, I did win both the Las Vegas Comedy Festival and New York Comedy Expo this year.  You have no idea what I do for a living or how my job works and you took time out of your busy day to write me an e-mail and offer me advice.  I promiss you with all of my heart nothing you have said in your e-mails matters to me.  If you did know what you were talking about you would know.  I used to work in Houston quite regularly when Spellbinders was open, because they paid me well with air hotel and a rental car.  The Laff Stop Does Not!

The reason XM plays that bit so often is because it is Funny!  I did write some new material today though and it involves Your Urban Cowboy Ass.

Lastly,  You might get a little steamed after reding this e-mail so please don't take it out on your wife Sissy!

I don't want that on my head!

Mike Green

His Reply

Spellbinders paid way too much for you....in fact maybe thats why the had to shut down(paying sorry comedians too much) and the laffstop is still pumping comedians out. Anyway, I will let you know that you don't have a strong fan base here in Houston so you might keep it off your schedule.

My Final Reply I'm growing tired:

Okay It's a deal.

Mike
