Well yes again, it has been months since I got onto MySpace and took the time to write in a bit of a blog update on my current events. Well, I have just finished my Peace Corps service in Honduras, Central America, and I am on the road traveling by myself with TICA bus all the way down to Panama, starting off from Tegucigalpa, Honduras.
I spent my final months in the Peace Corps, frantically trying to finish my big baseball complex finished that I got funding from Peace Corps and donors in my site to help build. It wasn{t all finished before I left, but it was probably about 80% completed, and is now under the lead of the new Peace Corps volunteer there in my old site. I spent the final week in Honduras, writing all my Close of Service reports, seeing the PC medical officers to do all my pooping in cups, to hernia checks. It was very hard and sad to say goodbye to all the people in my site that I have lived in for the last almost 2.5 years, and even harder to say goodbye to my good Peace Corps friends, and Peace Corps staff. Obviously, the sadest person to say goodbye to was Tania, my girlfriend whom I met over a year and a half ago, while out one night on the town in Tegucigalpa. We were able to get tourist VISA for 10 years, unlimited entry before I left, and look forward to her planned trip at the end of August to Chicago to meet the rest of the family, home, Chicago and all that stuff.
I am just hanging out here in San Jose, Costa Rica for my bus to leave this evening at 11pm for Panama. I got on my first bus yesterday in Comayaguela, Honduras at 10:30am, and arrived into Managua, Nicaragua at 6pm last night. We left the bus terminal in Managua this morning at 7am, and got into San Jose at around 5:30pm this evening. I am meeting up with my college and Civil Engineering buddy, Brandon Braithwaite, who is serving in the US Peace Corps in Panama tomorrow, hopefully we can see some sites before it gets dark, then hit the sack and be back up again at 3am to be at the airport and ready for my 5:38am flight out of Panama, which will pass through and change planes back here in San Jose, then onto Bogota, Colombia, and then finally arriving to the final destination in Lima, Peru Monday evening. I will be meeting up with my middle school and high school mate, Leticia Pickens in Lima on the 21st, will spend the 21st and 22nd in Lima, then flying out early the morning of the 23rd for Cusco, Peru in order to get ready for our Machu Picchu trip, along the Sulkatany Trail on the 25th, 26th, 27th, 28th, and 29th of July. We will reach the summit on the 29th at sunrise, and I cannot wait!! We will take a train back down into Cusco in the afternoon of the 29th, and chill in Cusco on the 30th. We fly back to Lima on the 31st, and then head out for Chicago on the 1st. I am flying TACA airlines, and will be arriving in OHare International not until like 3am on the 2nd of August, just in time for my buddy Jemo's wedding, on that Sunday, the 3rd of August.
So I got a lot of miles ahead of me, and can't wait..Will be the trip of my life so far, and can't wait...Hope you are all well, stay in touch, send me a line...talk soon...Nate
