Here and Gone Tomorrow
Category: Dreams and the Supernatural
I wasn't gonna write a blog this month but here it is anyway, I feel I owe it to all you fans and for what it is worth, we will have a random drawing for a free album release to all you friends but it is only for the ones, yes you guys, who send your home address to us for a free record. It will be a random in drawing -- too many to give away to all but you don't have a chance if you don't send that address, so send it on, old school way this month and as soon as we print you may get a surprise in the mail, so please all fans start sending your address to us. The single and artwork are ready with a new edit for radio and being manufactured. We should hit the airwaves by middle or end of August. Please request "Altar Call" all you can to your stations and keep you ears open. This month's song is "Nothing Left to Lose," a free download for newsletter subscribers. I wonder who I wrote this one about? I've seen it coming, listen to the words. God Bless!!!!! Neil Carswell

NEIL WITH THE NEWS
Current mood: amorous
Category: Life
Off to North Carolina again to, "tie up a few loose ends, I'm gonna work a week, make a hundred dollars and hit the road again, so I don't want you to think you're the first one to leave me out here on my own, no this ain't gonna be the first time this old cowboy spent the night alone." Marshall tucker that is, and it is just the way I feel. Things are tough all over now and the love of my life and I are in a heck of a mess and I'm searching for the answers. Nevertheless, the good news is after 16 years I went to the crossroads again, this time with no shots of Thorazine or One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest or Pink Floyd's, "there be no more ah!!!! but you may fell a little sick." So there it is, I'm ready to do what I am to do in life with this record and all to follow the Lord and his paths of direction. We will release, so I'm told, soon in the next month "Altar Call" as the first single, so it is our newsletter free download again for this month. Call all radio stations and request the song to help, and keep Melissa and I in you prayers -- this is our record and I will put it out undaunted as a tribute of how and where love finds a way to fulfill and to last through it all. I love you Melissa and always will, you changed my life. Thanks to all the fans for your support, Sincerely, Neil Carswell

Current mood: bummed

I'm still in North Carolina and will be coming home to Tennessee at the end of this month to seal the deal with Asperion Records and get the new record out on the streets. I've been playing a few acoustic shows and have enjoyed performing live again. I miss my wife Melissa very much, we have never been apart this long before and we have been having relationship problems, which is one of the reasons I left Tennessee for awhile, besides to make some money out performing and with my company. It has been a hard time in my life here lately because Melissa has been my biggest fan and best friend for so many years, her birthday is May 18th, and I want be able to spend it with her for the first time I can ever remember. We have traveled so many miles together made so many records and she has been the biggest inspiration to me of probably anyone in my life. This life of music tears you apart somehow, the bars, the drinking, the life in the fast lane and all. I wish sometimes that I could have just lived a more simple life, but I chose not to. Music has been a calling in my life, without living my life the right way. Nevertheless, I have been so blessed but it hasn't been worth the loss I have seen through the years and I refuse to let the Devil take my Melissa away. This month is for her, Happy Birthday Baby, I'll be coming home soon. So this month I will be giving my newsletter subscribers the free download song called "Since I Met You" which is her song and will be on my new record along with a lot more she inspired me to write. I hate the blues and the blues man inside of me but it is what it is and all we can do is keep the faith and press on. Thanks to all you fans and your support, keep us in your prayers please. Neil In NC
Current mood: angsty
I'm in NC now with family - came to go fishing and haven't even hit the water yet, TCB all the time it seems. I'm starting a small acoustic show tour to set up the new "Keep you Guessing" record. I'll be doing live performances and radio, regionally, and to get the band ready. My keyboard player is in the Orient and we are all in different spots now including me and my mind; still working on artwork and trying to get in on the shelves. We did land an old Copperhead song I wrote a few years back called, "Get Out Of My Way," with NASCAR, an appropriate title I guess and always good to get mailbox money. Thanks for all the support and record sales, God bless all you fans, Neil Carswell

the news of Ski and Song
Current mood: anxious
Category: Art and Photography
Back home safe from Switzerland on the 6th of Feb. I will be posting a few pics of the slopes and of Wes and I skiing, in my newsletter this month (if you haven't already done so, you can sign up for the newsletter on my website). We skied at three resorts, the Jungfrau region on two mountains the Jungfrabuhan, The Slitzerhorn and then by train 10 hours to St. Moretz, where we skied the two mountains Cravatch and Corvella. Had a horse meat steak platter and then went by train, The Glacier Express, on to Zermatt at the Matterhorn, skiing out three days on the Swiss side under the Matterhorn and into Cervania Italy. What great long distance runs they were - some of which were 50 miles from top of glaciers to the valley below. I 'm now finishing up the credits on the record, thank you credits, etc. working on artwork also, but the record is done, mastered and done!!! We will officially sign the deal at the end of the month and start warm up to radio while PR starts and records get replicated. This record is a 15 song record and has been a work of four years, with an array of great musicians and family. I will never write a record like this again or work on one this long, so you better get a copy ASAP. Too much work in task that has been, a record dear to everyone's heart involved in it. The title, instead of South Wind, will be "Keep You Guessing," the epic song of the record. I will feature a free download of the song in this month's newsletter. Hold tight, the CD will be on the shelves soon. I know we have an overwhelming response asking when, but for real here it comes end of next month. Thanks for all the support. Neil

Neil Carswell on news of new record
Current mood: artistic
Category: Music
Just wanted to catch all of you up on the project and where we are at. This month on the 15th and 16th we will record the last 2 songs to be added to the album at The Sound Emporium in Nashville TN We will have Stu Kimball on guitar and co producing along with Chris Anderson, Johnny Neel on keys, Wes Powers on drums, Randy Threet on bass, and Donnie Herron on steel, banjo, mandolin, etc. Donnie and Stu are currently with Bob Dylan on the road, and Chris and Randy were with the Outlaws until the untimely death of Hughie. Johnny has worked with an array of players from the Allman Bros. to the list that never ends. I have worked with all these guys for the last few years and have made some great records to date. Engineering will be done by Mike Poole, a Nashville guy and Ben Fowler on mixing, who I have worked on and off with the last few years. We will master on the 22nd with Richard Dodd, an Englishman with a major list of clients from Tom Petty to George Harrison, Ringo Starr, Joe Cocker, Roy Orbison, Dixie Chicks, just to name a few with 5 Grammys under his belt to say the least. We are all really excited to have him on board to put the final touches on the record. Wes and I will leave on the next day to Switzerland to ski for 14 days on the old reunion trip and what a better time to celebrate the finishing of a 4 year long project. After we get back we will finish up the last 2 songs on final mixes and touch up mastering and get ready to manufacture. We have also completed the contract negotiations with Asperion Records/CEO/George Collier, so he is just waiting on the finished project. I hope this fills you in a bit on music, instead of most months' tragic news I seem to post. Thanks for all the fan mail and album sales. God Bless, Neil Carswell

Death of Doug Lafevers
This month has been hectic as it gets, trying to finish the new record in mix stage, and still in negation with contracts for album releases. We are pushing back the release date for Jan or Feb of 2008 or at least go to print and warm up with PR and radio. All I can say is the record has really pulled together like we had the vision for a few years back, a collection of songs old and new from the Carolinas, travels around the globe and back to TN. Most the songs were although captured in writing in my uncle Harry Lees old cabin by the Linville River in N.C. in some of the most crazy days and lazy days of my life. I was always around my family there and at the end of the drive was Doug and Pat's house, a home I helped Doug build when I was very young. He taught me how to read a speed square and do carpentry, something that has made me a few pennies since then and helped me sustain a life style I only dreamed of; still can't count my blessings and don't understand why God has spared me throughout the years but called a man like Doug home at such a young age, all I know is he has suffered a lot with cancer and now he's free. I could write all day of people like him but I really don't know what to say in the least. I will say this; he will be dearly missed by a hell of a lot of people and by me. Reflecting back to my days as a young man and the times we spent together which should have been more if I had have taken the time. In my mind, looking back, most of what I will remember of Doug was his laugh. He had a unique laugh -- it filled the room with light and a strong force of energy that can't be described in words, I can still hear that laugh as I sit and write here today and I'm sure it will be echoing in my mind for the rest of the days of my life until we meet again. Thanks for all the friendship from Doug, Pat and Heath throughout the years. God Bless all you fans and family. Neil Carswell

News on the new record
Current mood: artistic
This month, in October, we will finish the long awaited South Wind record. I actually sang two cuts last night and a background part also, I seem to be singing better than ever these days and have never completed that much vocal performance in one session before in my career . We probably won't call it South Wind though so we don't get tagged as a typical southern rock thing. I think the record is much more than that, sometimes listeners hear that type of dogma and say, "another southern rock band." We all know that there will never be bands today to even hold a candle to those older greats so no need to go there. Nevertheless, what we don't want is to be thrown into the pile of want-to-be bands and artist that are typical and trying to chase that Nashville new country rock sound that in many ways is not very believable and contrived. This album has been a labor of love for the past four years and has a great span of songs and players. We have just signed a record deal in effect with Aspirion Records and have put out my previous catalog worldwide on digital distribution and are in the final stages of contract negotiation with the release of South Wind with Aspirion which will be distributed in major stores the first quarter of the New Year in '08. We will mix and master the first of November and start replication the middle of the month with a warm up to radio and press. We hope to have the record on the streets in early to mid March of '08. I have had a great privilege working with so many great people on this record and I'm very excited to get to work with George Collier and his team at Aspirion , especially since George has the credentials going back all the way to Atlantic Records working along side one of my mentors Tom Dowd and Jerry Wexler to name a few. I feel a veteran like him will get the record and know the best route to market it. That is the news, not so dramatic this month, we will give you a taste of a back porch song called "Time To Think," written in Salt Lake City through Montana and Colorado on a ski trip a few years back, a reflection of my life in the music business, the break up of Copperhead, going crazy, losing love, and drinking way to much to try and get over it all. One thing I can say is it has been a long strange trip since then and one I hope will start paying off tenfold more than before. Thanks to all you fans, Neil Carswell
