There is still hope!
Greetings UG Fans,
Have you got 30 seconds to spare?
If you haven't signed up to receive Undergrads updates via Decode's official site (yet), this is the e-mail you missed:
Do you still love the show? Your voice can make the difference.
TELETOON wants to know if YOU want to see more episodes. Send an email to Teletoon (suggestions@teletoon.com) and tell them you want more episodes!
What will happen to Nitz, Rocko, Gimpy and Cal? Will they graduate? Who will Nitz date, Kimmy or Jesse?
The Undergrads fate rests in your hands.
------------------------------------------------------
Here's a sample e-mail, for your cutting & pasting pleasure (but of course, if you've got the time, feel free to send something original):
To: suggestions@teletoon.com Subject: More Undergrads, Please!
To Whom It May Concern,
Undergrads is one of my favourite animated shows and I would love to see more episodes. Please produce another season!
Thank you for taking the time to read my suggestion.
Sincerely, (Your Name Here)
-------------------------------------------------------
And thank YOU for taking the time to read this bulletin/blog and for your continued support. I wouldn't be here without you.
Kind Regards & Sincere Thanks, Pete Williams

SNAIL MAIL MAY BE OUR ONLY HOPE
Dear Friends,
Thank you so much for taking the time to send all the e-mails in support of a second season. A lot of you went above and beyond. You = Awesome!
Unfortunately, I have yet to hear anything from either Cartoon Network or Comedy Central (and as far as I know, DECODE hasnt been approached by either of these entities). This can mean only one of two things. 1) They got the e-mails and they have zero interest. Or 2) the onslaught of e-mail was regarded as spam and they received very few, if any, of our messages. In the off chance that number two is true, perhaps it would be a good idea to send them actual, physical letters. Yes, good old-fashioned snail mail. This requires a little more effort on all our parts (and the willingness to part with a hard-earned fifty cents), but it surely couldnt hurt.
So if you have two quarters, access to a mailbox, and are feeling the slightest bit sassy, heres an example letter:
Dear Cartoon Network,
I am writing to you today regarding the animated series "Undergrads", as I feel it would the perfect addition to your Adult Swim block. I am one of thousands of fans who would love to see this show resurrected. Although it'd be great to see the familiar 13x22 min. episodes on television once again, it'd be even better if you would split the cost of a second season with Canada's Teletoon (they have already expressed interest and are just waiting for an American co-production partner). This is an incredible opportunity for you to take advantage of an already established and enthusiastic fan base. Please contact DECODE Entertainment Inc. in Toronto (they own the rights to "Undergrads"), and turn our dream of a second season into a reality.

And here are the mailing addresses:

Comedy Central 1775 Broadway 10th Floor New York, NY 10019 USA
Thanks again, everyone. Let's keep our fingers crossed.
All my best, Pete Williams

WHILE YOU'RE AT IT...WHY NOT CONTACT 'COMEDY CENTRAL'?
Hello again friends,
Seeing as everybody's already got their spam hats on, I figured it can't hurt to email Comedy Central as well. After all, they did actually air the show a few years back (at some ungodly hour in the morning). Anyway, I've included two [fill in your name] type spaces in the email this time, just so it feels a bit more personal. Be sure to fill them in before sending it off to Comedy Central. Here's the link to their page:
http://www.comedycentral.com/help/questionsCC.jhtml
Again, thank you all for taking the time to do this. I'm really overwhelmed by your support.

TIME TO CONTACT CARTOON NETWORK
Dear Friends,
Holy crap. In less than 3 months, the "Undergrads" myspace has managed to attract over 2000 members. If it weren't for all of you top-8ing me and/or posting the (manic) UG banner, this day would never have arrived. A big THANK YOU to all who helped spread the word. Although I'm too busy trying to pay the rent to respond, rest assured I read every single comment and e-mail you send. Your support is appreciated more than I could ever articulate.
As most of you know, now that we are at 2000 members, it is time to let Cartoon Network know that not only is "Undergrads" missing from their Adult Swim block, but they have the power to give fans what they want - another season. For your convenience, I've already typed up an e-mail message below. All you need to do is copy and paste it into the form on the following link:
http://www.adultswim.com/gen/contact/index.html
Thanks again, everyone. Let's pray that the Force is with us.

THE EVOLUTION OF UNDERGRADS - PART 1
Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities
THE EVOLUTION OF UNDERGRADS - PART 1 The year is 1997. It's freshman year of college. Yours truly was enjoying one fantastically uneventful winter break back home doing jack and squat. That is, until my mom presented me with a clipping from Animation Magazine (yes, I had a subscription since I was 8) for a Character Screen Test Competition sponsored by MTV. The contest called for a 1.5 minute pencil test audition of an original character or cast of characters that might populate the channel. Essentially, MTV Animation was desperately looking for the next Beavis and Butthead. The winner would be awarded a sizeable cash prize, as well as a possible development deal. Pretty flippin' sweet, eh?
But this was a nation wide contest, and open to all ages. People with actual talent and years of actual experience would be entering. Surely, I didn't have a chance in hell of winning. Did I? Nevertheless, with a little prodding from the rents, I decided to give it a shot. And so, with a whole week of Winter Break left to kill, I began racking by brain to come up with something... anything!
While waiting for inspiration to hit, I was summoned to spend some quality time with my three best (and only) friends from high school. By this point, our little clique had already exhausted every conceivable activity the hometown had to offer. And so, in the face of overwhelming boredom, I decided to whip out the old video camera and capture the utter lameness of our get-together for posterity.
It wasn't until the next day that I decided to review the footage. And as I watched our rather odd group dynamic unfold onscreen, something started to click! "Holy crap! These guys are freakin' characters!"
And so, I quickly set to capturing our personalities on paper. I had no trouble coming up with the voices, as we'd all spent the last four years perfecting horrible impressions of one another. Two days later, I had my pencil test entry completed and titled it "The Click". I then showed it to my friends, and they all pretty much hated it (understandably). After all, it wasn't the most flattering use of their likenesses. Nevertheless, they gave me their blessing, and the videotape was sent off to MTV.
(You can see my original contest entry below. Though I recommend watching it with your eyes closed, and ears muffled. It's really, really bad.)
I returned to college, and honestly forgot all about the contest. Until... Two months later, I received a frantic phone call from my mom. She was barely audible, but somehow managed to hold the phone up to her answering machine long enough to play a waiting message. It was from Abby Terkuhle (President of MTV Animation) notifying me that I'd won first place in their screen test competition! Muh-shnuh?!! Needless to say, I was shocked. But not nearly as shocked as I would be the following day, when Mr. Terkuhle personally called me up to ask if I'd be interested in developing "The Click" into a series. Huh-zah!!! I'm not even sure what gobbledygook came out of my mouth in response, but Abby eventually surmised that I was very VERY interested. Very.
And so, as soon as the spring semester at NYU ended, I began my summer job working at MTV Animation's Development Department to turn my embarrassing life into a cartoon. A task that would take far longer than I ever could have imagined. (To be continued...) In next week's episode: See the 7-minute pilot that finally got our show a greenlight!

NEW Undergrads Banner Link
Hey Everyone,
In case you missed the bulletin, here's the new code (avec new URL) for the UG banner.
Copy (Ctrl C) and Paste (Ctrl V) both lines of the following code into your "About Me", "I'd Like to Meet" or even the "Television" section of your myspace.

The code, in its entirety, is also available in the "Who I'd Like To Meet" section of my myspace.
Cheers & Thanks, Pete Williams

"How Can I Help UnderGrads Get A Second Season?"
Hello UG fans!
Thanks to everyone for signing up on the UnderGrads MySpace. We've finally surpassed 500! WOO HOO! Many of you have been asking: "How can I help Undergrads get a 2nd season?" (And God bless you for that.) Well here's the plan...
As some of you may have heard, Teletoon (UG's Canadian Broadcaster) has already agreed to put up half the dough for a second season. It's that pesky second half that's proving to be a real bitch. So basically, we need to get an American Broadcaster on board to foot the rest of the bill. Personally, I have my sights set on Cartoon Network. I think our little show could easily find a happy home on their Adult Swim block. But first, we need to prove to them that UnderGrads still has an audience.
So here are a few things you can do to help.
STEP 1: Spread the word! Direct all your friends to the UG MySpace by posting a bulletin (just like this one, guy!). Imagine if everyone convinced just 5 more people to join?... That'd be like... ...a whole lot of people!
STEP 2: I realize that it may be a tad weird to move me into your Top 8. Those coveted spots are likely reserved for a) people you actually know, b) people you actually like, or c) shows that have not be cancelled for half a decade. So instead, how `bout posting a nifty banner on your myspace? Hey! Here's one!:

Just Copy (Ctrl C) and Paste (Ctrl V) both lines of the following code into your "About Me" or "I'd Like to Meet" section. And voila! Pure banner magic.
STEP 3: Once we reach around 2000 members, I will provide you all with Cartoon Network's e-mail, and like a squadron of X-wing fighters swarming the Death Star (heh), we will bombard them all at once with requests to pick up UG Season 2.
STEP 4: Forget steps 1-3 and just send me a cheque for a few million dollars. Heh. Only kidding (sort of).
Finally, I just wanna say a huge THANK YOU to all of you who have already completed one or more of the steps above. I am totally blown away and incredibly appreciative of your efforts. If I could, I'd marry each and every one of you. But my wife (and some US states) just won't allow it. Damn.
And thanks for all your questions and e-mails. I will try my damndest to answer each and every one of them in my next blog entry on Teletoon's detour site, so watch for that in the very near future.
Eternally Grateful, ~ Pete Williams

WANT MORE UNDERGRADS EPISODES?
Sure it's been almost 5 years since we wrapped production. Sure, everyone else involved with the show has moved on with their lives. But what can I say? I'm still not ready to put that final nail in the Undergrads coffin. Anyway, I've somehow been corced into posting here on MySpace to to rally as much support for a SECOND SEASON as possible.
Here's the skinny on what's been going down thus far. For the last year and a half, Teletoon and Decode have been trying their darndest to make this second season happen. But Lordy, them cartoons be mighty expensive to produce. MTV has completely washed their hands of the show. And without an American broadcaster, there just ain't enough money in the bank.
Now, I'd offer to chip in myself...but since the demise of "Undergrads", I've been forced to make ends meet as a Hollywood screenwriter. So naturally, all my money is tied up in shiny sports cars. But seriously, I've offered to write, direct, and do all the voices (even Kimmy's!) pro bono in an attempt to bring down the cost of a new season. Yet, we're still coming up short.
THAT'S WHERE YOU, THE LOYAL FANS, COME IN! Many of you have written in and offered to raise the money yourselves for a second season. And that's the tops. But here's the next best thing...
SPREAD THE WORD my friends. The Canadian fan base for this show has been outstanding. But we're lacking a buzz down in the States...which is understandable due to the fact that the show hasn't aired on a US network in over 3 years. And when it did, you could only catch it at 2 in the morning.
So...invite all your friends to come by and rap about our little show. Or if you're feeling really generous, go out and buy the UG DVD. We need all the help we can get. But honestly, a second season has never been closer.
And for more UG related info, you can check out my official weekly blog at:
http://www.thedetour.ca/shows/shows.php?showName=underGrads
Thank you for your support, friends. And may God have mercy on your souls.
Over and out.
