nothin’ in particular
Current mood: blah
Category: Life

?It's been awhile! Mostly the same old grind, go to work come home blah blah blah.
I did get out to see Danzig and Georgious Frankenstein, The Horrorpops and some other AWFUL band the eve of all hallows eve. That was quite fun, all those Misfits shirts brought back good memories of Scott Von Rocket.Wish you could have been there Oregon punk-rocker friends! The Squirrel Nut Zippers will be here in a couple o' weeks and one of the perks from work will be - it's a free show! Lots of 80's bands and other casino / nightclub circuit bands (aka has-beens) play at the Station Casinos, free to me most of the time or highly discounted when not free. Plus OJ got in trouble there heeheehaahaaaaaaa

I see Oregon had a helluva storm! The high temperature in Ore, has been the low here the last few weeks and about 1 -  yes 1 day of rain. Sometimes I actually miss all that damn rain, most certainly the green forests, and the ocean so near. Not to mention many of YOU!

The other day we were driving to a Christmas gig my workplace was holding for employees families. My grandaughter (Tehya) and I had the music playing , she said " Grandma this music is grooving my butt and I can't stop dancing". I haven't laughed so hard in a long time. She must be related to me, thats all I can say.

work & other stuff
Current mood: peaceful
Category: Jobs, Work, Careers

¿I finally got somewhat of a regular schedule, no more shifts later than 10:30 pm and only 2 of those. Also got Fri, Sat off woohoooooooooo Consequently I went today to a gypsum cave outside of town ooh it was sparkly and coooool in there, a nice respite from the 100 degree day outside.

Some good news for me, my benefits will start in another month and no pre-existing condition limits apply, what a GRAND relief that is! Once again I have found peace at work through music, once I find out the likes of each group (I work multiple shifts as a supervisor)  we rock and roll, from funk & 80's to big band & swing and lots of stuff in between. Alas , I have only found one true punk-rocker a cool Paiute guy and he is down in the main kitchen, so we don't get much punk time at Texas Station, but in the car on the way there and back home it is on!

new nickname
Current mood: aggravated
Category: Jobs, Work, Careers

Snow White is the name the waiters where I work gave me and I work with Grumpy, Grumpier and Grumpiest (my dwarves I guess).  What a crazy place that is. I am reminded daily , why I did NOT work in restaurants for so many years, all the imps you have to work with!  Of course they do not appreciate my constant cleaning and making them change their cleaning solution every couple of hours,  or the no eating on the line rule. Jeez, one guy had a plate of  fries & a fish fillet in the reach-in next to his station he was snacking away. Another cooked up a hamburger and started eating it right there, then became indignent when I made him take it to the break room. The wacky schedule is hell too
5pm - 2 am X2 , then 2pm -11 pm X2, then 10 am - 7pm  very little sleep, then work thats all I do, no time for much else. supposed to be 2-11 for 3 months, what happened grrrrrr

cheese!
Current mood: happy
Category: Music

Just got back from the Richard Cheese show @ AJ's in the Hardrock Hotel. And it was a sold out, standing room only show. The lounge against the machine band was hot, with a couple new members and Mr. Cheese himself was his usual crowd working self. This round had a new bit with an old George Michael song, "Careless Whisper". A husky young man with a full beard was brought to the stage for a dance with RC while he was singing the afore mentioned song. What a sight that was, I haven't laughed so hard in a long while, it felt great! The Cheese parents were actually sitting right in front of me, at the table reserved for the "Davis" family, Don are you related to richard Cheese?!! hehe My son Travis had not been to a Richard Cheese show, he had a fine time as well. And Greg the birthday boy enjoyed himself too. A fun night here in Sin City.

uhhhhhhhhhhhh
Current mood: hopeful
Category: Jobs, Work, Careers

Back to work. My loooooong vacation is over, drat! I was enjoying not working. However my bank account was telling me I needed to deposit soon. So, I got a job at Station Casinos (Texas Station) near my home as a sous chef. The wages are a bit better than Spewgene Or, about $10,000 a year more. I think I can live with that. Decent benefits package too, however the cleanliness of some restaurants has always been disturbing to me.(Why I stayed away from them so long!) Back of the house  is quite a different view from the dining rooms, almost always. Interesting crew too, lots of latinos, some that barely understand English, I am re-visiting my Spanish studies as a result, I have not used it in so many years I only get a few words of each conversation. Culture shock all the way for me!

Tonight we go to see Richard Cheese, first we dine on BBQ'd ribs my son  Gregs choice for his birthday meal, then off to the concert last time I saw RC he was superb! Looking forward to a great show.

purple yams
Current mood: tired
Category: Food and Restaurants

I had some Phillipino birthday cake last night. It was made with purple yams (ube) and not nearly as sweet as our U.S. birthday cakes. I liked it better, the super sweet frosting and cake we have here is  too sweet most of the time. Those store bakery cakes, UGH I do confess to enjoying a GOOD carrot cake with cream cheese frosting.

In addition to the cool purple cake, we had Phillipino style spaghetti, which was a bit sweeter than mine, they told me they put banana ketchup in it, yet another "new" ingredient not familiar to me. Some of the food products in the grocery stores are quite interesting. There is a high proportion of latinos and phillipinos so the food products these cultures use are widely available, makes my trip to the grocery longer, cuz I like to check them all out.

Aside from the food, The 80's band The Romantics will be here on Friday, "what I like about you" that could be amusing. We do have our tickets for Richard Cheese @ the Hard rock on June 10, 2 days after my sons B-day (yes I got him a ticket for his B-day) 4 of us are going woohooooo

mothers day in the desert
Current mood: grateful
Category: Travel and Places

We went to the "Valley of Fire" via Lake Meads lakeshore drive after crossing Hoover dam. It was  a hot day! 102 part of the time, fortunately there were shady pockets amongst the rocks to rest and cool off. There were loads of Indian petroglypghs and just amazing rock formations, the sand was very fine and red, red was the color in that entire valley, a little pocket of the strangest sandstone. Also the petrified logs in one section of the valley. We had a picnic lunch and spent the day hiking and exploring. It was a GREAT! mothers day. I have posted some pics from the trip in my photos section.

moving on
Current mood: excited
Category: Life

Yes it's true, I have moved to Las Vegas. My sons have been working at getting me to move here for about four years, so finally I done did it! It is nice to be closer to my family and Teyha LOVES her school here. She also like the pool here at the apt. complex, although we have had some cool days amid the hot ones, so it hasn't been pool day every day. So far it has been mostly just getting unpacked, settled in the new place and submitting resumes, and endless job-search  (so it seems) e-mails etc... Yowch the registration fees are higher here, and my Oregon drivers license is not good enough, have to have a birth certificate AND marriage license (to explain the name change....UGH) new federal laws will require this, blah blah blah. The mountains and sunsets are incredibly beautiful, and there are so many different species of plants --- loads of palm varieties to check out, along with food items at the supermarkets not found in spewgene oregon. Loads of good music happening, woohoo.......Richard Cheese has dates in June & July, that guy puts on a great show!

And, Blitz has come back! at scrabulous.com things are lookin' good!

Bingo!
Current mood: geeky
Category: Games

Woohoooooooooooo, I think I played my best bingo yet, BONANZA! on a triple word for 139 points, yowza that was hot, however the higher rated player I was challenged by adjourned after the bonanza (my 2nd bingo that game) so I don't get to have it listed in my statistics, oh boohoo (haha) I was toodling around with various figures, and if one put SQUEEZED over two triple word squares it would be 252 points, wow! Okay , so I am turning into an uber-word-freak Uh huh , the "SCRABGOD" (or so they named themself) just quit on me, while they were passing 5 or 6 times to put down a 69 point bingo I was pulling the Z,  Q , J and X hehe, and so was about 100 points or so ahead, so much for games.com, its back to scrabulous for me, at least there they lose their points for doing that

WOW
Current mood: exhausted
Category: Parties and Nightlife

We just got back from the WOW Hall membership party. Had some great food, not a single brownie was left, though we did get to glean some great breads, and nancy's sour cream & cream cheese that were not even dipped into, along with a vegan butter substitute that was quite tasty. And a nice chunk of brie  mmmmmmmm yummy for tommorrow with some of the incredible bread we brought home. and now for the music. There was the mellow dinner music and then Sid & Fancy billed as punk bluegrass. Hot DANG! I did indeed get my desire to dance totally fulfilled. Those people were super. Banjo, fiddle the works and fast enough to call punkish I s'pose. Most assuredly great for dancing. I had seen the name in various publications and wondered about their sound  with the sex pistols pun. I would go dance to that "punk bluegrass "again to be certain! Now I am tired, I worked all day, then a few hours of dancing done wore me out.
