Love and Marriage
Current mood: pleased
Category: Romance and Relationships
My sister is getting married this weekend. As awesome as that is, I think the best marriage moment for me happened last Tuesday.
I was walking down the street in West Hollywood and was about to pass two men walking in the opposite direction. One of the men volunteered, "We just got married!" I immediately beamed and gave them both a hug, wishing them congratulations. They showed me a very snazzy-looking certificate of marriage that they had gotten and were quite proud. Within 24 hours of it being legit in California, these two guys tied the knot. It made me feel superb and proud to be a Californian.
When my sister joins the ranks of married folks this weekend, she'll be in good company!

My last words
Current mood: amused
Category: Life
I have found what my last words will be like:
The Marquis de Mahay, Thomas Favras, was caught by French radicals when he tried to help the Louis XVI escape. The marquis was convicted of treason and was given his official death sentence on his way to the scaffold. His last words were: "I see that you have made three spelling mistakes."

Am I the only one who does this?
Current mood: curious
Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities
I'm watching the Incredible Hulk. Okay, you may well say that I am the only one who does this -- but you watched it when it was first on -- admit it! But what I'm wondering is if I'm the only one who does this:
When I get embarrassed for the character or actor, I change the channel. I did it just now without even realizing I had done it. I looked up and thought "Why is BBC America on -- wasn't I just watching the Incredible Hulk?" Then I remembered getting embarrassed.
So do you do it?

Serious recluse
Current mood: quiet
Category: Life
I've been quite the recluse lately. I like it. I went to see Iron Man yesterday with a friend (I missed seeing the shield, though), and then right afterwards went straight home. I was debating going to a party tonight, so I've made a deal with myself to go for one hour and twenty minutes. I might not have gone at all except the host seems to really want me there.
I don't want my friends to feel like I'm disregarding them, but I'd really much rather be alone. Or maybe be with them but not actually talk to them. Is that bad?

ZOMG thank goodness that’s over
Current mood: relieved
Category: Jobs, Work, Careers
My revered friend Chris recently posted his experience with public speaking. And you know what, I can so relate, having just finished my panel at the ION Game Conference. I was definitely stressing, and now that it's over with, I don't feel like exploding, I feel like a marshmellow.
I must say that I wasn't worried that I would get up there and stumble over my words or anything. I knew that once I started talking, I would probably do okay. This attitude probably developed after I lowered my expectations of actually being able to entertain an audience. What kept me up with eyes wide like in Chris' cartoon was the hours and hours of organizing and re-organizing the questions. All I had to do was ask questions! -- and still I kept rehearsing it, readjusting it, over and over in my head, while I was trying to sleep, or read, or plan. It wouldn't stop! I'm so glad it's over.
I took a Strengths Finder test once that said one of my core strengths was Intellection -- the desire to think about things. Oh, please, can I trade that strength in for one that actually lets me sleep at night?

It’s so quiet
Current mood: uncomfortable
Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities
I can hear every creak, even the one from my chair. I'm so certain some evil being is going to sneak up behind me and do me in.
I hate it when the television goes out. It's too quiet without it.

Ethical question
Current mood: inquisitive
Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities
You're Richard Kimble. You're about to be sent off for your lethal injection. You participate in a prison break, which involves the murder of a couple prison guards, not to mention the people the other inmates kill once they're free. Should you have alerted the guards of the prison break? Are you morally or ethically responsible for these deaths?

All’s well that ends well
Current mood: hopeful

Microsoft sent me a new X-Box and Redoctane replaced my %&*(-up disk, so I got to play GHIII again today! Woot! I actually did a tutorial and learned something I didn't know before, and I'm not practicing strumming in both directions. Step back, I will be bad-ass!

Learned something awesome!
Current mood: pleased
Category: Web, HTML, Tech
I was doing research (work-related, thank you very much), and I wanted to learn the contents of a book which I have not as yet read. I like to read. I read a lot. However, I don’t read so much that I can finish all the books I want to read in anything resembling a reasonable amount of time. I considered subscribing to this excerpt service which would just send synopses of business books to you, which would quickly satisfy my biz book cravings. But, as you may well know, I’m cheap.
Well, imagine my surprise and "duh" moment when I came across the Wikipedia entry for the book in question. It features the synopsis handily there in bullet points and everything! How useful is that? Of course, copyright protection comes to mind, but I’m sure it’s fine. I can’t wait to not read more books and then focus my reading on more obscure stuff. Yippee!

Procrastination jungle
Current mood: puzzled
Category: puzzled Life
I procrastinated, full on, for like 7 hours yesterday. It was nuts. This was on top of the sanctified procrastination I did on Sunday since it was my "day off."
What do I have to show for it? I now know an unnecessary amount about the various schisms in the Christian church, including the difference between monophysite and miaphysite versions of Jesus. I also learned about bias on Wikipedia, such as the relatively pro-Unification Church (Moonies) topic, then I found evidence that Mark Twain, despite publishing a book against Christian Science, said it was actually pretty fabulous.
Today, I’m wondering why, why, why.
