“The World Is A Worst-Case Scenario And I’m Afraid All You Sense Is True,”
Said the buzzing wasp-voice. It's claws raked slowly down the side of it's head, goring through its insect flesh and revealing the shining bone beneath. "The skin of the world is woven of stingers, a fact you have now learned for yourself. Beneath there is nothing but bone and the God we share.
-Stephen King
I had honestly forgotten how intensely I love getting utterly lost in a novel. In my junior high and high school days off, I would get so lost in a book that I would read it's entirety, lying on my bed, in a single day.
How does one forget such pleasure. It's a vacation for my mind, for my soul.
It's been so long. I've been so busy and so caught up in the chaos and torture that is my current life that I haven't had the time nor energy to pick up a book for more than a few minutes. Even after doing so I'd guilt myself into getting back to the work that I was behind on, or pass out from pure exhaustion.
Last night I finally switched off the blaring, mind-numbing television, just before bed, and began reading the book I had set aside for so many months. Stephen King's "The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon." I fell asleep after reading for only about an hour but it was enough to get me addicted to the story again.
All day I found my mind continuously returning to wondering what was going to happen to Trisha.
Finally, after lunch I laid down on the bed and picked up the book once again. Now, three hours later I sit here with a finished book at my side.
Three beautiful hours of uninterrupted reading time, lying on my bed transfixed…entranced. The world outside the book dissipated, so distant as to be a mere nightmare scratching at the backdoor of my mind.
All through the last few pages I cried. Tears ran down my face as if I had experienced Trisha's hardships and near-death travels first hand.
I can't remember the last time I felt this at peace with myself.
It takes a true gift, an immeasurable talent in a writer to evoke such emotion, such intense feelings. How anyone can not enjoy, or even nearly worship, Stephen King is so far beyond my understanding that I'm unable to express my utter confusion.
My deepest most heartfelt thank you to those writers out there who share such a priceless gift.
Honestly, I'd left my profile for dead because I can't even keep up with the nonsense over here.
However, my dear friend Matt convinced me to head back over and give it another chance.
He has some very convincing tactics! *Laughs*

OTIS
2008, Warner Bros., 100 min. Dir. Tony Krantz ("24," SUBLIME) A story of suburban America gone haywire. In the midst of a serial abductor/killer's rampage, a beautiful young teen, Riley Lawson (Ashley Johnson), goes missing. When her desperate parents, Will and Kate (Daniel Stern and Illeana Douglas), are contacted by her kidnapper, an insufferable FBI special agent (Jere Burns) takes charge of the case. But from deep within the psychopathic subterranean world created by Otis (Bostin Christopher), Riley turns the tables on her tormentor, manages to escape and to contact her parents. Fed up with the tragicomic inability of the FBI to find their girl, Will, Kate and Riley's brother, Reed (Jared Kusnitz), decide to take matters -- and justice -- into their own hands. But when Otis' brother, Elmo (Kevin Pollak), shows up unexpectedly, the Lawsons find themselves mired in one of the more unusual and macabre consequences of vigilantism. The backed-into-a-corner Lawsons will further complicate their already deadly predicament with a surprising, unfortunate and frankly hilarious final choice. This provocative black comedy, which chronicles an all-American family's collision with the dark world of a serial killer, has been a film festival favorite and will be released on DVD June 10. Discussion following with director Tony Krantz and various cast members.
