Greetings from Milwaukee!

I'm posting this here because the AAC blog gets more reads than the others.

MIAD is turning out to be an awesome experience! Here's how it's going so far.

During the orientation week, the new students were asked to paint a mural as a group effort, it was entertaining and there was some local news coverage. It's was hardly fantastic, but it was a good way to break the ice amongst the first year students.

Labor Day weekend marked the 105th Harley Davidson anniversary, which was celebrated right up the street from the dorms. That made sleeping difficult, but left me with a lot of time to work on the piles of projects we received the first week.

This past week. Homework was still intense but not as bad as the previous week. The classes are fun and the teachers are phenomenal.

From what I hear from the upper classmen, the first semester is always extreme, but it tends to level out afterward, so here's to a fun, busy first semester!

I've met some cool people, including two exchange students from France. They are some great people.

In other news, I'm awaiting word on a freelance job teaching art to kids. That should prove fun!

In the meantime, I'm going back to my orthographic drawings.

Update

I'm sure some of you are probably wondering what's been going on in the world of AAC being as the strip hasn't been updated for some time.

Well, I finally got accepted into the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design! Classes start Monday and I will be here studying Illustration and Business. I will try to do what I can to keep the toons rolling while I am here, but I am so busy and excited to finally be here!

I’m not dead!

Greetings to all,

Some time ago I made the announcement that AAC was relocating and as a result the work would have to be put on hold while I was focusing on operations issues and other business matters. I just wanted to let everyone know I am still here (and still evil :P).

Everything is working out great and I hope to be back to work publishing weekly installments on the webcomic and prepping the print release very soon.

The second week of March, I will be collaborating with other artists in the St. Louis area. I'll be sure to let you all know how that goes!

So yes, I am still alive, AAC is still kicking, I just haven't been near a computer that much to let everyone know I'm still here!

Six New Pages!!!

Greetings!

After just over two weeks of grueling effort, I've uploaded six new pages of Draven: The Vampire Chronicle! You can see them HERE!!!

These new pages look a lot better than previous work, and I will be continuing to use bi-weekly updates until further notice.

In the first few pages, I used an aura effect on some of the characters, then nyxed it in later pages. I like how it looks, but it's not something I'd use on a regular basis.

In this week's set, Detective Sipley meets Draven face to face!!!

Also, next week Action Adventure Comics is relocating to Illinois. So, there may be a delay in new material. But once I get settled and back online, I promise I will have some spiffy new material for your eyes to snack on!!

Schedule change

Greetings all.

I am writing today, as I am sure you are expecting your weekly dose of action-packed Saturday morning goodness. Well, there will be no Draven this week. Before you get sad, there is good reason. I am changing the upload schedule from weekly to bi-weekly.

The reason for the schedule change is that I've been experimenting with some different techniques to improve the quality of the series. The work I am currently doing is much more time consuming than the old techniques I used in the first half of the series. Work that I used to be able to do in a week's time, is now taking two.  As the old adage goes, quality before quantity. Also, WCN appears to be down right now. =(

But there is a silver lining to this sad news of no Dravens this morning(aside from the improved art thing). I have a few pencil frames I am willing to share with you in a sneak preview of what's to come next week. 

In previous installments, I would draw a pre-determined amount of frames per sheet of paper(generally 7-10 frames) and work within those frames to create imagery. I would then draw a basic line drawing and leave the shading process to the inking process, as I used a rather uniform style of inking. (I also ink each frame by hand, with a quill.)

In these new pages, I have done away with pre-determined (and pre-sized) frames and am just drawing the images at a size that is comfortable to me, then rescaling when I scan to make them the appropriate size for page layouts. I've also taken the time to work with the shading in pencil, so I can use more detailed shading and play with it to see how I want it to look before I start the inking process. This allows me to create a much more detailed and higher quality product for you, the viewer to enjoy!

So, until I get the new stuff ready, don't forget to check out the current stuff HERE (when WCN is back up). One final note, thanks to all who have supported me thusfar! The hits are increasing like mad on a weekly basis and it's the least I can do for the readers to improve the work I am putting into this project!

My first "hate" mail

Howdy!

It seems I've received my first "hate" mail. So I must be doing something right. I don't know if it was meant to be humorous, but if it was sincere this "corn dog" needs to learn some grammar if he's to be taken seriously. This is word for word, unedited, what he sent me.

Don't get me wrong, I love Kevin Smith's work, but if this guy was half as "brilliant" as such, he would have taken the time to put a little more structure into his writing and maybe even used proper grammar. Not to mention, his behavior wasn't very adult-like, much like my art apparently.

But what do I know, I am just a stoopid vampire fag. A non-adult stoopid vampire fag at that. =P
