music news
Current mood: accomplished
Time to blow my own trumpet - have been lax of late.
I've got a couple of things on the boil. The Ice Haloes, (see them in my friends list) are a 4 part vocal group that Maurice (ex Shambles) and I started. Have recently recorded a demo CD, and songs can be heard on the myspace page. We do a pretty diverse range of stuff -everything from Abba to Depech Mode, Blur to XTC.
Anyone need a musical act for a corporate gig or party?
Also, I've been rehearsing with a cover band - we played our first gig at Fran's school's fete, and it went down a treat. One of the guys videoed it and it's up on youtube - check out the Foreign agents at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6yMlXQ-eSWM, there's three songs for your enjoyment. That's Fran and Thea in the middle up the front....
Anyone need a fun band for a party?
A.

Meredith Music Festival
Current mood: happy
Category: Music
Well, Bec and I finally did it - we made it to MMF. To be honest I didn't care who was playing (although I was sad to miss The New Pornographers on Friday night), as it was so wonderful to just put your life on hold for two days, sit down on beach chairs under the shade of a pine tree, and watch and listen to two days of fantastic music from lots of different genres, without the constant demands of the kids. I am still on a high.
Photos on my new flickr site (yes, I am finally in the new millenium) at

19 years today, 19 years today...
Current mood: content
Category: Life
So here it is. Today is the NINETEENTH ANNIVERSARY OF THE BECSTER AND I GETTING IT ON.
That is now officially MORE THAN HALF OF OUR LIVES.
Woah. And to rub it in (or make it more sweet), Sprog #1 turns 5 on Saturday.
I'm pretty chuffed by these stats.

Drinking Game: All Hail the Chairman
Current mood: drunk
Category: Religion and Philosophy
So it's Saturday night, and once again we're at home. Having given up the Secret Life of Us when sproglet #1 came along, we can claim at least some cred by avoiding the nana television that is The Bill and Parky. In doing so, the love of my loins and I have become quite partial to:
Iron Chef.
Chairman Kaga. What a bloke. Has there ever been such sartorial elegance? Certainly not on SBS, where usually on a Saturday night the uniform of choice involves no clothes, let alone the line of frilly shirts he so loves.
Followed by RocKwiz, which is up there at the moment for my favourite show at the moment (along with Shameless, and err, Striperella, but we'll ignore that for now). Tonight's ep included the delumptious Jodi Phillis reprising the old Clouds' classic Hieryonymus, and it was a treat indeed.
Why is it that ALL the good shows are on SBS at the moment? I defy anyone to name a half-decent show on any other channel (Spicks and Specks is close, but it's so fucking nice, and Little Britain has already jumped the shark I reckon).
So what is there to do on a Saturday night? Simple. Cook a cuppla decent steaks, open a bottle of Swords or two, and play the Iron Chef drinking game, which we invented tonight.
As per any decet drinking game, the rules are dead simple. Take a decent swig of your tipple of choice whenever any of the following occurs:
1. The Voiceover dude says "if my memory serves me correctly..." 2. The dippy actress commentator says "That looks good", or "I can't wait to eat it" 3. Chairman Kaga has porno cuffs on his shirt, or is wearing gloves, which are always seriously gay. 4. The main commentator says "GET IT ON!" 5. The main commentator says "BANG A GONG, WE ARE ON!" 6. The theme ingredient is some sort of fish - bonus skol when it's a type of eel. 7. The guy on the floor says "Scoochisan" (spelling v. dubious) before launching into an explanatory exposition 8. One of the commentators refers to a dish or technique as "Unbelievable" 9. The Iron Chef fucks up a dish and then somehow manages to miraculously salvage it into something else. 10. The expert commentator predicts something, and gets it wrong, much to delight o f the main commentator and the dippy actress. 11. There is an action replay of something completely forgettable (look - he turned the gas jet on - wow!) 12. The expert commentator says "I wasn't predicting that..." 13. The dippy actress wears a dress straight from the 1980s 14. The challenger at some stage of their career works in France. 14. The challenger actually wins (that's a double skoll, right there.)
Play this game, and guaranteed, you may not answer any questions in RockWiz, but it will make the editing a lot more palatable.

If it weren't serious, it'd be pretty bloody funny.
Surfing the net today, and stumbled across the following illuminating web sites. I am gob-smacked; in over ten years of web surfung, I've never encountered anything that radiates such pure hatred. Oh the irony.... http://www.godhatesamerica.com/ http://www.godhatesfags.com/main/index.html

Reaquainting oneself with old friends
I stuck an old Clouds CD on the player on the weekend, and was reminded what an ace band they were. Jodie Phillis and Trish Young's harmonies really were bloody good. sigh. one of my first musical crushes gone the way of the dodo. That's when I was an early nineties gormless wannabe indie kid, I have a little bit of gorm now.

Hmmmmm, let's work this shit out.
Current mood: contemplative
(n) web log, blog (a shared on-line journal where people can post diary entries about their personal experiences and hobbies) "postings on a blog are usually in chronological order" Right. so that means getting personal and stuff. ok. Let's kick it off with the number one factoid that's dominating my headspace at the moment - after 8 years of working for a small software company, I'm about to head off into the big wide corporate suit-and-tie world of consulting. Yikes. Don't half scare the pants off me. Still, nothing like being out your comfort zone to make you step up the to plate and actually get engaged in what you're meant to be doing!
