designerbating: an adventure in home decor social shopping

dismayed by the selections of shower curtains at local stores such as target, bed bath and beyond, and urban outfitters, i set out on an internetting quest to find the perfect centerpiece for a room i plan on spending a little time in each and every day...

i want a fabric shower curtain this time around to match my 3/4"x3/4" black and white square tiled bathroom, and i've looked far and wide, scoured the internets, and am wholly dissatisfied with the selection of black and white curtains out there.

i'm looking for something either super simple and ultramodern, or baroque, rococo, damask, or otherwise gothic without being too heavy. this has been a surprisingly difficult task owing to the fact that the majority of stores, both online and off, all carry the same products. simply, there is not a lot of selection.

In the running so far:

Sweet William black silhouetted floral print
A little too on the girly side for my taste.

Black & White Scribble
Cool-ish, but pricey.

City Blocks

I really like this, insofar as it's a clean pattern and all. But it's a little too heavily graphic for my tastes. My taste in art, fabric and textiles resembles my own art - I really crave a little bit of organic combined with my modern.

Black & White Damask Toille

This item could be gorgeous, and it could be a piece of shit. So it goes with ebay, where the motto is buy now, find out later.

Rococo Print Shower Curtain

I love this pattern, it doesnt seem too dense, but I'm afraid it might be too dark, over all?? I fucking hate ebay. That's reason enough not to purchase this item.

Dalek Spacemonkey Shower Curtain

Okay, so this one is vinyl and not fabric, but it's one of my favorite current artists and way cool that the shower curtains are even available at all. I prefer the grey. But, of course, it is currently unavailable.

I deviated (of course) in my research - the quest for a shower curtain morphed into a search for less tired and boring wall-graphics, since I've gotten so immune to the "wow-factor" of blik wall graphics. To my surprise and delight, there are TONS of great choices out there.

The best discovery, by far, is Wall Slicks. They have a great variety of vinyl wall decals to suit just about any taste, in a fabulous array of colors, and at prices that are completely affordable. Take a look at a smattering of my favorites, which I will likely be purchasing within the next month or so:

Baroque

Goth

Ornate

Rococo

Paisley

Another favorite online retailer of vinyl wall decals:

Rare Device - Wall, Ceiling and floor art. Have a look:
Jayna is a Potato - Queen Potato Vinyl Decal Wall ArtPantheon Vinyl Decal Ceiling or Wall ArtHopscotch Vinyl Decal Floor Art

More cute offerings in way of vinyl wall art from VinylWallArt.com.

And more innovative art in way of vinyl wall decals, super fucking cool skateboard artists from Pop Cling. Here's one of my favorites, selected from a wide range of graphic styles:

Study for a Squid Invasion by Attaboy

A limited edition vinyl decal in a series of 100. So freaking rad.

And forget privacy glass. Check out the custom window decals offered here:
frosted dots

Annnnd while we're talking customizable wall decals and graphics, why not go 3-D? FOLD bedding offers a great selection of ready-to-apply 3-d wall graphics.
3-d Square Read-to-apply stick on Wall graphics

I love the idea of painting them the same color as your wall for subtle 3-d contrast.

A few other honorable mentions in way of internet retailers selling well-designed home and life ecoutrements:

Elsewares

Lelievre Paris - Fabrics & Textiles

And one last link before I go - I just started clicking around again, and apparently found the vinyl JACKPOT - out of france, a collective of artists who compete to produce the most baddest ass wall art - DONT MISS THIS: www.domestic.fr

hanging in the balance

meeting with the PO went ok this time. had my sister go with me just in case anything happened she would be able to get my car back to where it needs to be and contact the appropriate people. a meeting with the PO is always a nerve-wreckin' event for me. never know when it'll end with me leaving for dalcojail or work. she's a bear of a person to deal with, too, my PO.

also, supposedly the the license revocation hearing happened this morning. haven't heard from the atty yet, but think good thoughts for meh pleeeease.

i went to register for my volunteer hours / community service this morning, and i'm actually really looking foward to it. i'll be working with the Plano Children's Theater, and I'll be getting to do stuff like arts and crafts fairs with kids. Umm, punishment, what??? Helllooooo.

In other bittersweet news... mom's paying off my student loans this week. i've paid about half, now all 40grand i have left is about to go up in smoke. thanks mom.

Visitation, Memorial Services, etc.

Wednesday evening, from 6:30pm to 8:30pm the family will host a visitation at Donnelly's Colonial Funeral Home in Irving, TX. I'm not sure I will go for this. I may stay at my parents' house and receive any visitors there.

A memorial service will be held at 11am, Saturday, December 9th, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, also in Irving, TX, with graveside services to follow.

break for laughter

it's been kind of a somber day, to say the least.  received a call at 5:15 this morning that my grandfather passed away.  having gone to bed 45 minutes prior, i wasn't particularly excited about rushing right out of bed... but i did.  as i've said before, he's not someone i have a particularly emotional connection with, and i found it difficult to express any emotion until i walked into his room to be with my family and pay my last respects this morning.

had to go in to work to do a couple of last minute things, then went and met my parents for breakfast at Joes, this old diner here in irving we've gone to since i was a little girl.  my friend Tiffany Cain's family owns it - she was killed by a drunk driver when i was 16.  in some ways, i felt it necessary to my respects to her as well.  i went and said hello to the picture of her that they still have hanging on the wall by the kitchen.

when we got home, my sisters were goofing around.  victoria charged jessica, jessica put up a quickblock and victoria ran smack into jessica's extended leg.  in effect, tori had just been racked.  she was howling in pain and squealing "my vagina is bruised my vagina is bruised"...

we were rollin'.  my dad had just taken a big ole swig of iced tea and he about lost it all over the living room.

QOTD - 05.11/Thurs

So I'm talking to my friend Davin, and he invites me out to a bbq cookout out in bfe to hang with him and some friends. Says some guy is going to be there that knows me... i'm like, who's that? should i know this person? he says, i dont know, but he knows you. or knows of you.

he tells me, "erica apparently your reputation is more vast and wide than you know"

and i said, "by reputation, you mean vagina, right?"

This is very exciting people... Bear with me here

I was just invited to be a commenter on wonkette and I'm very stoked about this (although they might revoke my invite after reading that I used the word 'stoked' just now). So anyway, I just popped my commentee cherry and posted my first quip:

Tim Kaine Eyebrow Watch

Actually, there's more to my comment than that, but I decided as a responsible commenter, I'd keep things in good taste. The rest of it is as follows:

And the story just gets better and better... After doing a bit of light reading I found that the most common cause of Bell's palsy is Herpes Simplex 1.

Best to hide the babies next time Kaine goes out campaigning.

So I have a question. Am I commenter? Or a commentator? Is there a difference? Damn. I should be clear on these matters before moving forward.

Everyone's an expert. And I need your help.
Current mood: drained

Does anyone know a seriously good, safe, legal, healthy-ish way to wake the fuck up? Because I am having major issues staying awake during the day lately while I'm at work. I feel like it's becoming a real problem and affecting my productivity. I just need a bigtime energy buzz.

Coffee & tea just dont do the trick any more. Ephedra used to really work well... but now we know that doesnt do a body good.

What about other vitamins meds or supplements? Any good ideas or suggestions on those?

Help. PLEEEEASE.
