New birthday
Category: Art and Photography

Auction house Sothebys are offering for sale what is thought might be the oldest photograph in the world.
The brown image of a leaf, is the result of experiments by Thomas Wegdwood, son of Josiah, founder of the china dynasty and may date from 1805.
This pre-dates the work of William Henry Fox Talbot, the inventer the positive-negative photographic process around 1839.

Polaroid
Category: Art and Photography

Dog with Oranges Unique medium format Polaroid I have read recently that Polaroid is considering ceasing production of its instant film. The film has long been used by photographers as a proofing film as well as notable artists like Warhol.
I have a small collection of my own experiments with Polaroid's, of which the above is one.

Meaning and feeling
Category: Art and Photography

An image can change its meaning with time and through events and associations. This photograph of the icon FlatIron Building in New York was a straightforward view with a small aeroplane flying past. With the events of 9/11, the image takes on a different mood and feeling.
