PICTURE-PERFECT DREAMING

 Off the beaten path, one can find her favorite spot. A forgotten mountain overlook, with a mossy stone wall and abandoned dead leaves that crackle underfoot, she often sneaks away to come here when she's wrestling with the demons in her mind. Early mornings when the air is cool and still, just before the sun breaks through the low-lying clouds and kisses the mountainside with varying shades of pinks and oranges, she thinks of him. He would really appreciate a scene like this, and she knew they would've enjoyed it together in comfortable silence. He was one of the few people she had known in her life who truly understood the value of small things, the free things that present themselves to you on a daily basis if you're open to receiving such gifts.
Sometimes she becomes so engrossed in her thoughts, she's still sitting by that wall when the day becomes night. Usually chilled by the evening dew fall and the disappearance of the sun, she'll retrieve a blanket from the car and continue to sit in her spot. By now, the windswept pines appear to brush the inky night sky, as the moon is on the rise. On clear autumn evenings it's a spectacular sight, yet another she dreamed of sharing with him. Even platonically, his warm embrace would ward off the chill of the night, making it possible to enjoy this viewpoint a little longer. Nevertheless, this was her place to dream.

PETS ~ GBE 57

Meet Maggie May, my mom's 2-year-old miniature Schnauzer...
 Cute, huh? She's used to me being here at home all the time, so she really doesn't pay me a whole lot of mind. Unless I get in my wheelchair to go somewhere, then she jumps up in my lap like she's trying to stop me. Or when I get back from having been somewhere, she licks me in the face until I can't breathe. Mom jokes that Maggie would pay more attention to me if we tied a pork chop around my neck.  That's for sure! If you've got food, she's going to be hawking you. Waiting, ever so patiently, for a crumb to drop so she can pounce on and devour it. It can be a bit disconcerting to have her stare at you while you're eating, 'cause she's relentless! I have it on pretty good authority that even though she doesn't often show it, she has love for me. Photographic evidence, you say?

DAYDREAMING DARKLY ~ GBE 55

Nothing ever changes. No matter how happy she tries to seem, no matter the positive attitude she attempts to hang on to, she doesn't understand why things refuse to get better for her. What goes around comes around, but bad karma has decided to take up permanent residence in her house. And as much as she appreciates the well-meaning advice of those around her, it has been 8 long years of one thing after another with no relief in sight. Quite frankly, she's tired of hearing about how it'll get better without having any concrete evidence that it will. She's afraid she will literally scream in the face of the next unfortunate soul who tries to convince her of that fact.
She just doesn't care anymore...she wants to die. No one would really miss her, and anyone who might would actually be secretly relieved to be free of the burden she had become. She was dying anyway, why not hasten the inevitable? There was no good reason for her to continue fighting it. First, she would just refuse to get out of bed, then she would cease eating and drinking. She knew with great certainty that her body would not be able to tolerate such conditions for long, leading to a rapid decline in her health. Having already arranged to have no extraordinary measures taken to keep her alive, the only choice anyone would have would be to let her go. She would die peacefully in her sleep, alone as she had been in life.
Her contacts were drying out, causing her to blink. Her gaze focussed back on the glowing computer screen in front of her, where the web page she was accessing had completed loading.

Her conscience tries to slow her down, trip her up, but her heart is determined to plow forward. This is what she wants. HE is what she wants. There has already been too much water passed under their bridge, she doesn't want to spend another 20 years kicking herself yet again for missing an opportunity.
Her mind's eye is always ready to show her how it could be, her faint memories and vivid imagination fill in the rest. It's been a long time since she'd enjoyed the comforting embrace of a man she connected with, lying against him with her head resting on his chest and his strong arms around her. She could hear the steady beat of his heart quicken as she moved against him. There wasn't so much as a breath of air between their bodies, as soft skin pressed against soft, warm skin.
Here, her conscience drags her back to reality for a moment. To get to the point they were at in her earlier thought meant each of them had given in to temptation. Admittedly, she had done little to fight it herself. Wouldn't fight it, if all the emails and text messages ever led to them finding themselves in such a position. She wanted him, she had always wanted him, and she would wait for him...however long it took for him to realize he needn't give up a thing or feel guilty in order to have everything.
