Time to say sorry
I have to say sorry to my friends here, on faceslap, and in the real world. I've been so swamped with work and my own little life that I haven't been keeping in touch with anyone. Just so you know, you're not being singled out for zero attention from me, it's a blanket approach. I should be back in the normal world in two weeks. So see ya all then!

Bring it to me, or I’ll take it
I've just watched an ad on TV for the Salvos. That's the Salvation Army for anyone not Australian. Their slogan is: If it's too good to throw away, bring it to a Salvos Stores! People, for your own good, it's time you learned how to differentiate between bring and take. I find this one of those seriously annoying language problems and I'm here to put an end to it. It's all about location. If i am sitting on the couch, as I just so happen to be, and I ask you to deliver me a beer, I will say, will you bring me a beer on your way back. Of course, saying please in there somewhere. But I am here and you will bring me something from another location to where I am. If I want to deliver something to you, I will take a beer to you. I will not bring a beer to you. Here are some examples, as the beer I've had is making it a tiny bit difficult to write about. I will bring you a beer on my way back. (from there to here) I'll take my stuff to the Salvos. (from here to there) Take your rubbish to the Salvos. (from your home to there) So, fundamentally, what the problem I have with this advert is, is that they've decided that the Salvos are the important place, yet they are directing it at you. They've done it the wrong way around. They should have said, Take it to the Salvos, not, Bring it to the Salvos. If you aren't sure whether you know the difference, try this little test. Of course, I tried it, and I scored 100%, but then I'm perfect, and I would. How did you go?

Cheap flight from Melbourne to Perth. Want it?
I've got a spare ticket from Melbourne to Perth. It's dirt cheap, like around $200. That's a return ticket. If anyone wants it, let me know. It leaves mid arvo Wednesday, and back Monday night. I'll need to know before midday Tuesday. It's last minute, yes, but it's so bloody cheap that you can't miss out on it! Email me here to get more info.

Perth
Category: Travel and Places
I've got a cheap ticket to Perth on Wednesday, which is all well and good, but I don't think I can afford the hotel for the week, and I can't do back packers. Anyone know a good cheap hotel around Fremantle? I'd hate to spend the week at the office, instead of the beach, but there's just not enough pennies in the kittie to pay for it. Wahhhh!
Oh, and if any of you are from Perth and want to take me out for a beer, I may or may not be in town this weekend.

Oh I'm so camp
Current mood: drunk
Category: Blogging
I have just decided, in my Tuesday night wine fuelled mood, that I want to go camping. In the winter. It'll be freezing cold. It'll be a stupid idea. But I want to go. I want to cuddle up with someone in the freezing cold. Giggle as I want to go out in the middle of the night for a late night wee. Yes, wee. Are any of my friends up for it? I want a new adventure. Something I haven't done before. Come one. Let's do it.
Okay, okay. Maybe it's a stupid idea. So who's got a skiing chalet I can crash instead?

Facebook
Current mood: full
Category: Blogging
I've noticed a sharp spike in movement from myspace to facebook in the last two weeks. I'm finding a whole lot more people on there I know. If you're on there, search for me. You'll easily be able to work out my full name to search with if you don't already know it. Just look at my profile URL.
See you on the new, finer, easier to use, just so much bloody better, social networking site.
Post Script.
I just found the public URL for my facebook account. http://www.facebook.com/p/Alison_Holloway/574375833

The Age Old Debate
Current mood: hungry
Category: Blogging
Is Marmite better than Vegemite? Oh yeah, it's time to fight over it again.

I've recently had the fortune of being given some English Marmite. Mmmm. Oh yeah. I'm licking it off the knife right now. I love it that much that I'm willing to slice my tounge in half to get every last drop of it.
I always thought I liked Vegemite over Marmite, but I think I may be moving more towards Marmite now. Oh yeah, I am betraying Australia and New Zealand, and I grew up in both countries. But you must remember, I was born and slighty raised in England too. So I'm entitled.
Vegemite is thicker, more salty.
Marmite is smoother, slightly sweeter.
Both go so well with cheese, and as you know, I'm addicted to cheese. I am torn.
So, what's better, Marmite or Vegemite?Oh, lordy, I really want some Marmite on a Stick now. Also known as Twiglets. My favourite snack food and the thing I miss most about England (other than people and pubs).

I'm addicted to Cheese
Current mood: crushed
Category: Blogging
I love cheese. I really do. I would happily eat it for breakfust, lunch and dinner. The only thing that stops me is the size I would become if I did ingest so much. I do eat a lot of the cheesy goodness though.. So you can imagine my interest when I read about this article on kids being addicted to cheese. Imagine my disappointment when I realised there's a new type of heroin being sold to young kids that they're calling cheese. Bugger, I don't want drug treatment, I want help with my cheese eating addiction.

Are you getting enough?
Current mood: lethargic
Category: Blogging
For men, the median number of lifetime female sexual partners was seven. For women, the median number of male partners was four. KCCI.com
Is this every year? I think people need to get out a bit more. Speaking of which, anyone see me on the news last night? It was about the smoking ban in pubs. Nothing like getting your mug on TV when you're boozed up. :-)

My other blog
Current mood: geeky
Category: Blogging
For those that might be interested, I've started another blog. I have three altogether, but this new one is a bit more general techy stuff. My work one I won't post here as I don't want the two worlds colliding. So if you're interested in anything techy that I might want to post about, add it to your RSS feeder and see how the other side of my brain works. You never know, you might even learn something. Or better still, help me out when I ask questions I can't solve.

Myspace, the verb
Current mood: chipper
Category: Blogging
I'm not sure if I've blogged about this before, but I heard it a few weeks ago and I had to mention it to you, dear myspacers and rss-reader-types.
"I'll myspace you".
I assume that means they'll log into myspace, search for you, and submit an add friend request? Or does it mean they'll email you via myspace? Or, perhaps, they'll set up a myspace profile pretending to be you? I just can't be sure.
While I'm at it, I wanted to make another small point.
I went to see The View on Wednesday night, and they were surprisingly brilliant. The sound was rubbish, but for a bunch of 18 year olds, they had enough stage presence, energy and enthusiasm to rock me out of my self imposed solitude. I was yahooing and whooping and doing the Dirty Brownie (see April phrase of the month) before too long. And when they threw themselves into the moshpit repeatedly at the end of the gig, well, you couldn't help but smile and have a giggle. I haven't seen a band do that in a long time, and really, I didn't think the 'mosh pit' was busy enough for that kinda leaping. It wasn't a mosh pit, more a bunch of lovely young 'uns dancing and singing along. I haven't seen anyone mosh for years, thank God!
Well, to my point. The holding up of lighters has been replaced by the holding up of mobile phones. To take pics. It looked like a sea of small lights, with lots of button clicking, and frustrated faces. Kids, mobile phone cameras can't get good gig shots. Take a freakin' camera. I hear them digital 'uns are quite good nowadays, and dirt cheap. If you like a red hue in your photos, oh, and the wiggly lines from movement with too slow a shutter speed.
Ah, technology. You gotta love it.
Gotta go. Just got a txt from a friend who wants to meet at the Anal (Cock) and Fuck (Duck). Predictive txt is brilliant fun. Or maybe he wants something else of me?

Friday's handy hint
Current mood: mischievous
Category: Blogging
If you're a smoker and you're sick of non-smokers suddenly taking up the habit in your presence, and wanting presents of your ciggies, or rolly smokers who are too lazy to roll their own and want your taylors, I have the solution.
It takes a tiny bit of preparation, by secreting a couple of surprises in your fag packet, but it's worth it.
"Can I have a ciggy?" "Sure, here you are my friend." "Oh, thanks." *spark* *inhale* "Pfffft. What the fuck's this?" "Oh, a menthol, I smoke them now."
Problem solved.
I did it last night. Worked a treat. No more requests for ciggies. Huge belly laugh for me. The rest of the night I smoked my Dunhills without further requests.
Yes, it's mean, but I am mean. And I'm sick of people smoking my $12 a packet fags, when they can go buy their own.
Hmm, maybe I should just put normal fags in a menthol packet? Then I won't even get requests. Hmm. Maybe not. People will think I'm a right twonk.

Phrase of the month: June
Current mood: lazy
Category: Blogging
This month's phrase of the month is a week late, due to extreme laziness, work, and spending too much time setting up networking in the even-time. So, for those who have been waiting with baited breath, for fear of speaking and not knowing the phrase of the month, here you are.
"You may kiss my cheek now."Use it during an argument or heavy discussion. When you're bored. Over it. They're still banging on and you want it to end. Rather than let them win due to apathy and boredom, follow this sage advice.
Listen politely.
Wait til they run out of steam.
Then quietly and sexily lean forward, presenting your best (facial) cheek. In a soft and sultry voice say, "You may kiss my cheek now".
It will stop them in their tracks, and laughter will ensue.
My dear friend Miss Fee Fee did it to me a couple of weeks ago when I was telling her that she was annoying me, while on a bender, and my argument made no sense nor was it of any real value. When confronted with this brilliant one-liner, we both started laughing, and I did, indeed kiss her fine cheek.
Spread your legs. Spread the word.
Brought to you by Spank Girls.

Band Adds
Category: Blogging
What do I have to do to tell bands to fuck off?
I know you all think you're the best new band since sliced Bread, but I'll decide if I want you or not. I will ask you.
I've set my profile to *not* allow add requests from bands, but I still sometimes get them. And I get lots of emails from the best new band on the block, and I'm over it. It's time to take a stand, well, er, um, a sit really. And quite a comfy one too.
I already have enough bands on my profile. I don't need anymore.
But wait, maybe they *are* the next big thing. Oh, gosh, that drummer's kinda hot ... maybe one quick listen ...

You Twonk
Current mood: silly
Category: Blogging
I just remembered a word I used to use as a kid. It's a lovely word. I want it come back into vogue. So I'm spreading the love. Here you go kiddies. Use it at least twice tonight!
twonkIt's a cross between a twat and a plonker. If you don't know what they mean, then twat off, you plonker.
Here's an example:
Why didn't you use the milk cutter for those lines of tea? You twonk! Shit, it's time for a drop of plonk!
