It has been a while since our last post. We hit a few bumps in the road but have since reorganized everything and are back on track. We are always looking for new members to join our group of jewelers. Bring yourself and knowledge to visit our meetings and consider joining our growing group of creative minds!
Our Meetings are being held on the 2nd Wednesday of every Month. The next meeting will be Wednesday Oct. 8th at 6:30p.m. at Tamara Prudhome's House 2810 Belle Christian Circle Pensacola. Please join us. All skill levels are encouraged to join.
Since we are reorganizing the budget is tight and we are looking for a studio space with low to no rent to get us started. We would also like to have enough room to hold classes and store equipement. If anyone has a suggestion for a studio, or knows someone with space that they may like to donate to an educational purpose, please contact Kristina Weick at rubytoo1@cox.net or Tamara Prudhomme at TamaraDP@aol.com. We are a 501(C)3 non-profit organization, have insurance and all necessary paperwork if it is needed to find a studio space.
We need to update our e-mail list, so please send us your current e-mail address if you would like to recieve our monthly newsletter or any of the event info we send out.
Also, I am currently looking for someone who knows how to format a postcard for our group, please contact me if you know how to do this!
There are tons of collectables, antiques and unique finds at Mixon's.
This is a great place to find a one of kind gift. Or something special from the past.
I have some of my jewelry collection down there for grabs & Eileen has a wonderfully soft hand made throw blanket. And much much more. We will be posting pictures on our blog asap.
One third of the second largest collection of Egyptian sculpture in North America housed at Brooklyn Museum is not authentic. The dating of these sculptures is late fourth century A.D. until 641 when the Arabs invaded. The museum mostly bought the fakes in the 1960's into the 70's. A Byzantine scholar, Dr Gary Vikan, pointed this out in the 1970's, but his findings weren't published widely. Dr Edna Russmann, the Brooklyn curator has almost finished her study concerning these works and concurs that many are fakes.

Gorgeous July Gemstone:
Spiderweb Carnelian: Unraveling the Mystery
Carnelian is type of agate, meaning it's a microcrystalline form of quartz; which is a sub group of chalcedony that has a yellow-orange to brownish-red to red hue. It's translucent. These days a lot of the carnelian is dried and treated with heat.
Spiderweb carnelian is thought of by some people as phony. Crab fire agate is another name for spiderweb carnelian; it's a commercial descriptive name that the bead industry uses. It has nothing to do with the Mexican fire agate. These "commercial descriptive names" can be confusing.
Spotlighted News
Cruise Ship Auctions
Auctioning art on cruise ships has been around for about twenty years. It has grown into a large business and most of the bidders have never done this before and don't have any experience in the protocol of bidding at an art auction. They don't understand what meeting a reserve or inspecting a provenance means. This newbie status has, at times, led to the winning bidder finding he didn't buy what he thought he did. It is best to be informed when planning to bid for art on these cruises.
Park West Gallery is the "king" of cruise ship auctioning and works with the Disney, Holland America, Oceania, and others. The land base of this gallery is in Southfield, Michigan.
Fascinating Artists:
Bredette
She makes what she calls "spunky essential oil blends." Bredette says they "help with daily life annoyances…like cramps, headaches, crazy children, etc… She makes salves and oil blends with essential oils, carrier oils, and with herbs she gathers from her garden that she infuses for long periods and then puts them into the oils. She has been making oils or crafting the majority of her life and gets her artistic talent from her grandmother. But she doesn't speak Spanish and her grandmother doesn't speak English. Grandma is the local herbalist in her town. People come from other towns and so forth to get her help. She is very enamored of her grandmother and proud of her.Bredette unknowingly used what she calls "cheap wannabes" oils for a long time. She discover this when she took a class in essential oils and now her nose is an expert and she'll never be fooled again. She really likes for her oils to make people happy and for them to be satisfied.
She says that the most difficult part is getting her product to people and even making it is harder now because she has a toddler to take care of. Her collection is named after her son. Her site is http://www.orionstars.etsy.com/. Bredette truly enjoys her work and she does the printing, cutting, labeling, blending and anything else that needs to be done, but making the bottles.
She says that the best thing to do to get noticed on etsy is to list and list. The other thing is never use blurry pictures. She advises don't copy other peoples work. Be inspired. She promotes her work on etsy and gives out cards. Recently, she has started to give away gift packages to local non profit fundraisers.
Though she says there are so many she couldn't name them all.
Great Tips and Tricks:
Tube Bending Coils: You can locate tube bending coils at hobby shops. They are used for bending models. Different sizes are available. Use a tube that is a good fit for the coil. Leave some of the coil out so you can grasp it with pliers to remove it. Of course, bend gently and sand to remove any marks if necessary.
Gathering up spilt Beads: Simple! Just grab the vacuum cleaner and a pair of panty hose. Using one leg from the panty hose slide it over the nozzle end of the vacuum cleaner. The beads will suck up into the panty hose and Viola!

This ornament was so much fun to make. It just makes me smile. I hope it will make you smile too. This ornament/sun catcher would be great in a window hanging from a ceiling fan or even on a Christmas tree.
2:04 AM - Advice From An Old Tennessee Mountain Man
Current mood: mellow

Advice From An Old Tennessee Mountain Man Your fences need to be Horse-high, pig-tight and bull-strong. Keep skunks and bankers and lawyers at a distance. Life is simpler when you plow around the stump. A bumble bee is considerably faster than A John Deere tractor. Words that soak into your ears are whispered... Not yelled. Meanness don't jes' Happen Overnight. Forgive your enemies. It messes up their heads. Do not corner something that you know is meaner than you. It don't take a very big person to carry a grudge. You cannot unsay a cruel, or unkind word. Every path has a few puddles. When you wallow with pigs, expect to get dirty. The best sermons are lived, not preached. Most of the stuff people worry about ain't never gonna happen anyway. Don't judge folks by their relatives. Remember that silence Is sometimes The best answer. Live a good, honorable life. Then when you get older and think back, you'll enjoy it a second time. Don't interfere with somethin' that ain't botherin' you none. Timing has a lot to do with the outcome of a rain dance. If you find yourself in a hole, the first thing to do is stop diggin'. Somet imes you get, and sometimes you get got. The biggest troublemaker you'll probably ever have to deal with, watches you from the mirror every mornin'. Always drink upstream from the herd. Good judgment comes from experience, and a lotta that comes from bad judgment. Lettin' the cat outta the bag is a whole lot easier than puttin' it back in. If you get to thinkin' you're a person of some influence, try orderin' somebody else 's dog around. Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly. Leave the rest Up to God.

As I know some of you are wondering. My dad’s business is being gutted and rebuilt from the existing four walls that were brick. I did get to spend a few with him.
I had a great time surfing on Shannon & Randy’s couch. Thanks for putting up with me you guys. Shannon and I ventured to the otherside of town to try to get a peek in Arrowhead rockshop but we couldn’t get him to open his door. I heard he’s not doing well? My mom Shannon and I went shopping at the bead stores like mad women. It was a blast.
So, I came home to a huge pile of work. Good thing I like my work. The selection in Oklahoma is much more vast than where I live. I came home with some nice stuff.
And while I was gone the arrival of my new line of tools came. So as promised here is a slideshow review of all the new and interesting goodies I’ve listed. This includes the Lindstrom and Eurotool pliers. I highly recommend them to the die hard wire workers of the world. And still there is much more to come I’m sitting in a pile right now. I have to photograph my way out of it!
1:13 AM - Four Alarm Fire
Current mood: disappointed
Category: Life
my dads business turned out to be a four alarm fire today. i'm sad for all the critters. the part on fire is where they were. the car out front belonged to the herpatoligist. he was probably so busy removing animals that the car didn't matter. the sound happens at about 4:06 and they zoom in real good at about 5:00
here's the link http://www.kfor.com/ if it isn't still the top story search for pet store fire quality pets.
this is of the sane panic
a firewall between the older half and the drygoods department kept it from consuming a square city block warehouse full of pet products that are dusty, dry and in cardboard.
