Daily Steven-isms...A Cooking Tip
Current mood: silly
Category: Writing and Poetry

I interrupt my poetry blogs to pass on a Steven-ism guaranteed to make you smile this holiday season! For those of you who do not know, I am the mother of a wonderful 9 year old little boy who is everything to me including a smartass...yeah, ok so he takes after me. Anyway, I posted a blog a few weeks ago (?) with a quote and a couple of Steven-isms that I just had to share. Well, I've decided to keep sharing these because they're just too funny to me.

So I know everyone will be cooking or enjoying some cooking this holiday season. My son has come up with the greatest cooking tip ever and he's planning on being a chef (today at least) just so everyone can feast on this delightful taste as he does. The story goes...

Tonight I was making some stir fry shrimp with oranges and veggies and Steven asked if he could help. Of course you can help baby! I love that he asks me that. He's so damn cute! He grabs his stool so he can see above the pan and starts to stir. Suddenly he stops and has a serious look on his face and asks where the soy sauce is.

"This will taste good with soy sauce! I know, because I know what tastes good together."

And then he smiles but still looks at me with the most serious look while shaking his head 'yes'. Apparently my son believes that everything tastes good with soy sauce...hahaha Gotta love it! So there's your cooking tip!

And that, my sweet peas, is the Steven-ism for today.

Quotes of the day and other silly thoughts
Current mood: silly
Category: Writing and Poetry

I felt it was time for some quotes again and I also have a couple of kid stories to share that might make you giggle.

First I'll share the quotes. Let's get the business out of the way, eh? There are a few I found and as usual I couldn't pick just one. Just as a side note...don't ever take me to a restaurant with a menu more than 3 pages long. That's way too many choices for me! So, imagine how I feel when searching the net for quotes...I had to stop myself! Ok, so here goes...

Take chances, make mistakes. That's how you grow. Pain nourishes your courage. You have to fail in order to practice being brave.

Mary Tyler Moore (1936 - )

That consciousness is everything and that all things begin with a thought. That we are responsible for our own fate, we reap what we sow, we get what we give, we pull in what we put out. I know these things for sure.

Madonna (1958 - ), O Magazine, January 2004

Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one.

Albert Einstein (1879 - 1955)

And just to add a laugh to your day...

We need anything politically important rationed out like Pez: small, sweet, and coming out of a funny, plastic head.

Dennis Miller

Ok, as most of you know, my son is a very important part of my life. He inspires me to be so much more. He is my sunshine, my most perfect thing I've ever done. After a couple of incidents today I've decided to occasionally post what I'll call Steven-isms. It's very important to know that my son is quite a smartass. (gee I wonder where that comes from hehe) He has always loved making people laugh and he's damn good with the quick wit. Keep in mind that he turned 9 in September.

Our first incident happened when I playfully gave him a spank on his bottom. And he turned around and, in military sargeant style voice, exclaimed, "I suggest you step away from the tocks!" (Tocks being short for buttocks) I almost fell down laughing so hard! Oh if I had only had a video camera on him at that moment.

Our second incident came when we were watching tv together and the commercial for e-Harmony came on. He looked at me and told me that he needs to get in touch with them. When I asked why, he looked at me with this serious look and said, "Cause I gotta get me a girl!" I was in tears laughing at that one!

Have a wonderful day everyone!

Quote of the Day
Current mood: Um...just woke up...
Category: Um...just woke up... Writing and Poetry

Ok, so I've been a total slacker on my quote postings. I have actually been quite a busy little sassy brat lately. I had to travel last week so I'm way behind on reading and commenting so I apologize to all of you wonderful writers and friends for that. At least I got in one posting after I got home! Hell, I'm so far behind I think I'm first at this point! haha! Ok...so that was dorky. Anyway, my mind is a jumble of words and phrases and I'm sure they'll be pouring out on paper very soon. Right now I am catching up on missed time with my son. He's more important than sitting in front of a computer that can't show love the way he can.

Well, today I am posting 4 random quotes that I found online. I'm not sure if there's any reasoning behind my choices and if you try to make some sense of it then I'll just say you're wrong. Here's a clue...I don't make sense a lot so stop reading into it. I hope you enjoy!

The face is the mirror of the mind, and eyes without speaking confess the secrets of the heart.

Saint Jerome (374 AD - 419 AD)

Maybe it's easier to like someone else's life, and live vicariously through it, than take some responsibility to change our lives into lives we might like.

Tish Grier, love and hope and sex and dreams, 04-12-2006

Guard well within yourself that treasure, kindness. Know how to give without hesitation, how to lose without regret, how to acquire without meanness.

George Sand (1804 - 1876)

Fight for your opinions, but do not believe that they contain the whole truth, or the only truth.

Charles A. Dana (1819 - 1897)

E.E. Cummings and Elizabeth Bishop
Current mood: loved
Category: Writing and Poetry

I just got finished drying my tears after watching "In Her Shoes" and hearing a poem read from one sister to another. The poem is written by a great poet named E.E. Cummings and it was so moving that it provoked a rush of feeling that comes along with tears. Lots of tears. I think some of the tears can be contributed to the way I feel about my sisters and how much I miss them. This movie made me miss them even more. I know it's a "chick flick" but definitely watch it especially if you have sisters and a dysfunctional family. Since I know how you men can be, I decided to go ahead and post the poem I'm referring to. Below it you'll also find another poem that was read during the movie that I thought should be mentioned as well. The poem is "One Art" by Elizabeth Bishop and it, too, is very moving and thought provoking. I hope you enjoy them both as much as I.

i carry your heart

i carry your heart with me(i carry it in
my heart)i am never without it(anywhere
i go you go,my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing,my darling)
                                    i fear
no fate(for you are my fate,my sweet)i want
no world(for beautiful you are my world,my true)
and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;which grows
higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart)

E.E. Cummings

One Art

The art of losing isn't hard to master;
so many things seem filled with the intent
to be lost that their loss is no disaster,

Lose something every day. Accept the fluster
of lost door keys, the hour badly spent.
The art of losing isn't hard to master.

Then practice losing farther, losing faster:
places, and names, and where it was you meant
to travel. None of these will bring disaster.

I lost my mother's watch. And look! my last, or
next-to-last, of three beloved houses went.
The art of losing isn't hard to master.

I lost two cities, lovely ones. And, vaster,
some realms I owned, two rivers, a continent.
I miss them, but it wasn't a disaster.

-- Even losing you (the joking voice, a gesture
I love) I shan't have lied. It's evident
the art of losing's not too hard to master
though it may look like (Write it!) a disaster.

Elizabeth Bishop

How To Kill a Jack-O-Lantern
Current mood: excited
Category: Writing and Poetry

First, grab your pumpkin!

Next, make your plan for leaving your own creative mark on your victim.

Now scalp away! The brains must be removed!

Remove the squishy guts. Ewww!

Make sure the body has been scraped clean. Leave no evidence!

Grab the buzz saw and be creative.

Time to check your work.

The ghosts are cheering! Excellent work!!!

On Pain by Kahlil Gibran
Current mood: pensive
Category: Writing and Poetry

A few blogs ago I posted something about my fortune cookie fortune. It was extremely thought provoking and I've never forgotten it. Today I was searching for my next quote of the day to post and I happened to find the exact quote from my fortune cookie. (I have underlined this quote for you) The quote comes from a man named Kahlil Gibran and the piece he did is called The Prophet. So, I thought I would share it with all of you. (notice I didn't say y'all)   If you have some time you can click on the link and find out some more interesting parts of this man's work.

And a woman spoke, saying, "Tell us of Pain."

And he said:

Your pain is the breaking of the shell that encloses your understanding.

Even as the stone of the fruit must break, that its heart may stand in the sun, so must you know pain.

And could you keep your heart in wonder at the daily miracles of your life, your pain would not seem less wondrous than your joy;

And you would accept the seasons of your heart, even as you have always accepted the seasons that pass over your fields.

And you would watch with serenity through the winters of your grief.

Much of your pain is self-chosen.

It is the bitter potion by which the physician within you heals your sick self.

Therefore trust the physician, and drink his remedy in silence and tranquillity:

For his hand, though heavy and hard, is guided by the tender hand of the Unseen,

And the cup he brings, though it burn your lips, has been fashioned of the clay which the Potter has moistened with His own sacred tears.

Quote of the Day
Current mood: contemplative
Category: Writing and Poetry

Once again I am posting a couple of quotes from one of my favorite tv shows, "Criminal Minds". Very interesting stuff. Enjoy...

Man is least himself when he talks in his own person. Give him a mask, and he will tell you the truth.

~Oscar Wilde~

The basis of shame is not some personal mistake of ours, but the ignominy, the humiliation we feel that we must be what we are without any choice in the matter, and that this humiliation is seen by everyone.

Quote of the Day
Current mood: sleepy
Category: Writing and Poetry

I absolutely love the book of Tao Te Ching. It makes life seem so simplistic in a world that we've complicated and forgotten how to live. Below are a couple of my favorites from the book. Enjoy!

43. Overcoming the Impossible

The soft overcomes the hard;
The formless penetrates the impenetrable;
Therefore I value taking no action.
Teaching without words,
Work without action,
Are understood by no one.

51. Love

Making without controlling,
Giving without demanding,
Guiding without interfering,
Helping without profiting,
This is love.

Quote of the Day (Friendship)
Current mood: content
Category: Writing and Poetry

Ok, today's quote is based on my Random Thought blog about friendship from earlier. Thanks to everybody who put in their thoughts on my questions. I really enjoyed knowing your views. If you're interested, click HERE to find out what the heck I'm talking about.

There are so many quotes about friendship. Trust me, there are so many that it's almost impossible to read them all. From the ones that I did read (about 10 pages worth) I chose two that really stood out and seem to go along with my thoughts from earlier. I hope you enjoy.

Be courteous to all, but intimate with few, and let those few be well tried before you give them your confidence. True friendship is a plant of slow growth, and must undergo and withstand the shocks of adversity before it is entitled to the appellation.

George Washington (1732 - 1799)

Don't flatter yourself that friendship authorizes you to say disagreeable things to your intimates. The nearer you come into relation with a person, the more necessary do tact and courtesy become. Except in cases of necessity, which are rare, leave your friend to learn unpleasant things from his enemies; they are ready enough to tell them.

Oliver Wendell Holmes (1809 - 1894), The Autocrat of the Breakfast-Table, 1858

Random Thought (Discussion)
Current mood: curious
Category: Blogging

I always have some really random thoughts. Some are deep and some are so funny that I even giggle to myself. Yes, I have even been known to answer myself...scary huh? Anyway, I was thinking the other day (this is the part you start to think "uh oh") about friends and people in my life. Then I started thinking of a certain few that have a certain view of life. That's when this thought came to mind.

People say that, 'you get what you pay for'. If this is true, then what value can you place on a friendship that is totally free of charge? Does the fact that I offer my friendship so freely give them the right to treat it with such disregard? Do we all really value our friendships whether they are true or not?

I have only two requests in any friendship or relationship.
1. Mutual Respect
2. Honesty
These two things cannot exist without the other in any type of relationship. Do we really have the right to set demands on a friendship that, by all accounts, is free?
