Kevin I. Slaughter of Scapegoat Publishing gabs with Jim Goad (ANSWER Me!: The First Three) in a casual conversation on the cusp of his tour with Hank III. Kevin doesn't pretend to be a professional interviewer, and this proves it. What we wind up with is a discussion and not an interrogation, with Kevin providing his own views on subjects. Goad's eye for detail is equal parts jaundiced and top-notch, and the sheer wealth of crap this guy knows about is staggering. We particularly liked the list of Top 100 suicides and his looks at Vietnamese gangs, Church of Satan founder Anton

Our old pal Chris X of Reptilian Records in Baltimore is up to no good again, his latest attempt to corrupt the youth of America is called Scapegoat Publishing. One of their first releases is ANSWER Me! The First Three by Jim Goad. This handsome publication compiles everything (and so much more, 55 extra pages by my count) from the first three nearly mythological issues of the controversial 90's magazine. Sure you get the serial killer and suicide guides that made Answer Me! so infamous in the first place, but what surprised me is how well the material held up over
the years. I mean, where else can you find out everything you ever wanted to know about deformities, David Duke, Vietnamese gangs, El Duce, Dr. Kevorkian and NAMBLA all in one place? Definitely one to archive and cherish, and sure to please the sick bastard deep down in all of us. 368 pages, $21.95

ANSWER ME! FUCKS!

So hot off the presses that you can still smell the deliciously inky scent of the printing press on the pages of this must have new publication brought to you by Baltimore media mogul, Chris X., is the much anticipated (long out out of print) reprint redux of Jim Goad's Answer Me!



For the uninitiated fucks whose faces should be forced through a cheese grater, Jim Goad is the irreverent and probably misunderstood zine publisher who, in the early '90s, took a big steaming pile of shit on the publishing/zine world (and anyone who happened to pick up his mag) with his controversial zine called Answer Me!

With page after page of grotesque imagery made more grotesque by the Xerox quality of many of the images of mutants, murderers, racists, rapists, satanists and other exciting character types, the party didn't end with just horrifying photos of freaks and killers, the man could write a captivating sentence.

When Answer Me! first came out, I remember thinking, "Should I feel guilty for liking this? "Was she really asking for it? Is the subject of rape entertaining???" I threw that shit right out the window because this was the man who wrote a 41-page article called Night Of A Hundred Mass-Murdering Serial-Killing Stars and I loved him for that.

Atomic Books was supposed to host a book signing which went south and a last minute appearance at the Inferno A Go-Go fashion show on Tuesday was Mr. Goad's only appearance before he split town. He really deserved a whole night to himself.

The beautifully printed book includes the first three amazing issues of Answer Me! and 60 pages of new material and is available at Scapegoat Publishing. Order now before that wonderful "new book" smell starts to fade.

ANSWER Me! In Australia

We had one of those tabloid-esque current affairs shows do a story ... this week (long story there). And if I figure out how to get it off our tv's harddrive, we'll put the whole thing on YouTube or something. In the meantime, I have pics taken of the tv.
 
Basically, in a couple of the shots they filmed to fill the segment, I pretended to be a customer buying a book - I chose Yours! - not knowing if it would make it on air or not, but IT DID! Air-time was: Friday 11th August, Channel 7, "Today Tonight" - beaming perhaps the equivalent of a national network 5 sec ad for ANSWER Me! into unsuspecting households Aussie-wide.
