SIMBAD Japan Tour 2007 - HEEEAVVYY!
Current mood: accomplished

13 Days of Craziness and Japan is still buzzing.
Lots of heavy tunage and wicked memories.
Full repect to DJ 'Sweet Tooth' Simbad for smashing it every time and bringing something special to our shores. Heres a few reports of the gigs.

Heaven's Door@ Planet Cafe, Hamamatsu - Sat 3rd Feb

This was a weekend of broken records and CDJs. It all started in the multicultural city of Hamamatsu in Shizuoka ken.
This highly repected club has held some major parties over the last 15 years, but we managed to get the biggest turnout ever in the club's history, smashing the record set by Danny Krivit. Jetlag was no issue as Simbad rocked the dancefloor till the early hours. Big up to Hefin for organising a wicked party!

absolute!!@ Loop, Tokyo - Sun 4th Feb

No sooner had our ears recovered from the belting of the night before, we were on the train headed back to Tokyo to play what was gonna be the biggest and best absolute!! session ever! Club Loop is a booming basement in Aoyama with one of the heaviest soundsystems around. The sub bass caused mayhem on the floor and as Simbad br wowed the crowds with the true sound of broken beat, once again people were left wanting more! Respect to the absolute!! crew and DJ Mochizuki!

Do Your Thing @ Nu Things, Osaka - Sat 10th Feb

After an insanely exhausting, but thoroughly productive week, Simbad having slept only an hour the night before, joined by myself, John and Issay, headed for Osaka. A quick trip to Kyoto was on the cards and drooping eyes were soon awake as we wandered through the breathtaking 'San Ju San Gendo' temple - by far my favourite site in Japan. After a brief hike around the equally beautiful Kyo Mizu temple, we soon found ourselves in Osaka's Nu Things. Usually a jazz club, the DYT crew managed to transform this place into a clubbing haven of epic proportions!
Again a full dancefloor was in action and particularly went wild with the drum'nbass pressure! Respect to Ryochi, Monkey, the legendary Relax Maxx and the whole Do Your Thing Crew - another banging party.

Em @ The Room, Tokyo - Sun 11th Feb

After finally getting some precious sleep, we were back to Tokyo for the last round @ the legendary Room in Shibuya. Once again some great promoting from the em crew brought a record number of punters, and as in the previous night, Simbad delivered a unique blend of eclectic rythms keeping the fully charged crowd moving till the morning.

Once again full repect to all those who helped out and made this such a successfull tour.
Watch out for Simbad's new album dropping on Raw Fusion later this year.
Peace
Aroop

Straight No Chaser Review

Straight No Chaser

review by Amar Patel

V/A BEYOND JAZZ 3

(WWW.BEYONDJAZZ.NET)Third time up but standards remain: fresh, exclusive broken and nu-jazz vibes from Austria to Australia find their way to you thanks to reliable Belgian connectors Beyond Jazz. Projects like this are to be strongly applauded, not least because it gives youngbloods like Aroop Roy (spotlight on 'The Lonely Years' - tuff but dainty Brazilian flavour), Nemoy and Masoul a chance to make an impact and share billing with slightly more familiar names like Jonny Miller (supplying the deeply synthesised jittering composition 'Subversion') and Inverse Cinematics (4x4 with a jazz twist on 'Lost in Time'). It goes to show, if music makers communicate and join a community, there's always a platform to air their work. Respect also to Red Bull who seem to be sourcing tomorrows sound scientists very well; you've got two alumni, no less, on this compilation – the aforementioned Mr Roy and Oracle. Pick up on this and watch these guys grow. (AP)I'm also playing it out at Basement Soul (www.basementsoul.co.uk) in Brighton and may well drop a track in the Xmas radio show on samurai.fm.Keep on,--------------Amar Patel Straight No Chaser Reviews Editor
