Chambers wins "Best Of" in City Pages
"Breathtaking works of art are displayed on the lobby walls, but the most eye-catching object may be the old cigarette machine just outside the hotel's small but exclusive gift shop."

october already?
hi all
we here at art-o-mat® would like to thank everyone who helped make our 10th anniversary summer events successful. it was so great to see old & new faces at our secca swap meet. the positive energy of that saturday afternoon was so unique. we are very grateful that our artists trust us with their work...and that our buyers enjoy what we do. pics from the day are posted in the news section of www.artomat.org.
now, we are back into our daily groove and preparing for our fall installations. we just plopped a bright yellow machine in the amarillo museum of art. soon, we'll install a huge machine in the mary riepma ross media arts center on the campus of the university of nebraska-lincoln.
also, i (clark) will be doing a slide talk at the chambers hotel in minneapolis. afterwards, there will be a kickoff reception for their machine. the art-o-mat event is scheduled for wed night oct 17th from 5:30-7:30pm in the art banquet room next to the gallery. open to the public.
again, thanks a bunch!

UNPACKED BOOK - now available on www.artomat.org
Current mood: energetic
Category: Art and Photography
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Clark Whittington Email: clark@artomat.org
ARTISTS IN CELLOPHANE RELEASES BOOK I: UNPACKED. The first book collaboration from artists participating in the Art-O-Mat project.
After 10 years of being distributed solely through vending machines via cramped, little boxes, Artists in Cellophane has been Unpacked. This inaugural book project brought together 17 participating machine artists to create artwork outside of the Art-O-Mat machines, retired (aka: outlawed) former cigarette machines which are featured in over 90 locations around the world.
Clark Whittington, AIC Bureau Chief, appointed artist Herbert Hoover to begin the project in the spring of 2006 by inviting current Art-O-Mat machine artists to submit prototypes for a book idea. 17 Artists submitted a diverse array of work, similar to what you might find within a typical Art-O-Mat machine.
Whittington & Hoover met with Mark Robillard, a machine host and book sponsor, at AIC Headquarters in Winston-Salem North Carolina to review the artists submissions from around the US and Canada. Artists were then requested to submit an edition of 200 pieces to be assembled into Book I: Unpacked.
While the artists were creating their editions, Whittington, Hoover, & Robillard designed and created a layout that would balance the needs of each artist and unify the book. The final book is interleaved with vellum text and covered in black sheet rubber. The books were assembled at AIC Headquarters and are available for purchase at www.artomat.org.
Participating artists include Aaron Kraten, Bryan Valentine Thomas, Chad Wasser, Cristian Pietrapiana, David A. Franke, Guy Boutin, Herbert Hoover, Hieronymus, John D. Gall, Karman Rheault, Nell Steelman Whitlock, Pamela Matsuda-Dunn, Tiffany O'Brien, Took Gallagher, Woodie Anderson, Alyssa Salomon, and Clark Whittington.
Artists in Cellophone (A.I.C.) is collection of over 400 artists who use former cigarette vending machines to distribute original pieces of art. Its machines can be found in almost 100 galleries, museums, and universities throughout the United States and around the world. Art-O-Mat is based on the concept of taking art and "repackaging" it to make it part of our daily lives. The mission of A.I.C is to encourage art consumption by combining the worlds of art and commerce into an innovative form. A.I.C believes art should be progressive yet approachable and personal. What better way to do this then with a heavy cold steel machine?
If you would like more information about the Art-O-Mat Book I: UNPACKED, or to schedule an interview with Clark Whittington, Please call Artists In Cellophane at 336-774-0717 or email AIC World Headquarters at clark@artomat.org
