Here comes the good stuff!
Current mood: contemplative
Category: Art and Photography
I'm prepping for the Silicon Valley Open Studios the first 2 weekends in May. I'll be showing with Harriet and Manny in San Jose, and I will be doing my first public live figure drawing and painting demonstration. I guess people will finally get to see how crazy I really am when I work....hehe....
Silicon Valley Open Studios
Dates: May 5th, 6th, 12th, 13th
Time: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Location: 1752 Frobisher Way, San Jose, 95124
I will do live figurative drawing and painting demonstrations with clothed models on both Sunday afternoons, 6th and 13th, from 2 to 4 p.m., so people can see how I create and why the process is so exciting to me. It'll be something new and different for me, so it's even a little scary but surely to be fun!
I'm showing with Harriet Helfricht and Manny Magallon at Harriet's home studio. Harriet's acrylic abstract paintings often remind me of cosmic and earthly concoctions of mystery and universal possibilities, and her figurative sculptures are edgy and refined at the same time. Manny is THE ceramics teacher at Mission College. His crystal glazed potteries are simply out of this world! He mixes his own glazes and the crystals develope right on the pottery during the firing process. Anyone would be so lucky to own one of his beautiful pieces.
Please come by and bring your friends!!

and This Little Piggy Went to the Market -- March Madness from Hung-Tsu Chen
Current mood: happy
Category: Art and Photography
Hello My DEAREST People!!!
(Btw, please feel free to forward this email to your friends. Thanks!)
It's the work in progress piece from January that is now completed, and it's sitting pretty in the KALEID Gallery in downtown San Jose on 4th street. These figure abstract paintings always take me sometime to explore and realize because the creative process is just as enjoyable as the end results.
Guess what, people actually do read my emails.... I've gotten wonderful responses from my calls for Venus last month. Is that amazing or what?! As a result, I've been busy drawing, painting, framing, and prepping for a show I'll be doing this week.
A Walk on the WILD Side......Hung-Tsu goes to San Francisco....Bohemian Chicks Art Reception
I was just doing my thing on Craigslist, you know, seducing pretty women with my pretty art to come and give me their best sides, and out of no where, someone invites me to participate in a show she's curating. Dee Dee Russell, now she's different from anyone I know or normally hang out with. She is definitely on the wild side. You can always argue that someone who is so excited about painting naked chubby women can't be so subdued herself, but I think I am lame and tame compared to her. We know the unknown is always scarier than it probably is, and talk about pushing one's boundry....Yes, I've turned down the corset idea she suggested that I wear to the show, and no to the Dave on a leash and chain at the end of my whip suggestion (we'll have to sell tickets and add a couple of zeros at the end of my artwork prices; though Dave didn't look like he didn't want to do it either...hmmmm?) I am frantically trying to figure out what a bohemian chick wears to an art reception.
As for you, my friends....You're cordially invited, AT your own risk, to the opening reception of the Bohemian Chicks art show, March 22, 7:30p.m. to 11p.m. It's at the ArSpace Gallery 1286 Folsom St. at 9th St. San Francisco. And I heard something about a bar.....
Here are the details: (also on my home page)
Opening Reception: FREE, Thursday March 22, 2007 7:30 pm - 11:00 PM.
Closing performance event: Thursday March 29, 2007 7:30 pm - Midnight, $5.00 cover charge
Where: ArSpace Gallery 1286 Folsom Street at Ninth Street, San Francisco What: Bohemian Chicks: Abstract Body
Who: All female group art exhibit with mixed media work, installation, video and fashion and music from established and emerging Bay Area artists and DJ's. Opening reception and closing performance curated by San Francisco public cable access host Dee Dee Russell
Featuring the work of: Scarlot Harlot - Hung-Tsu Chen - Megan Kenyon Apriel Coffey - Cyber Vixen -Lynne Augus Meat Management Council - Dee Dee Russell
Now, cautiously, I give you Dee Dee's web links. It may be your thing, or it may not be. I maybe shy, but I'm also a strong advocate for open mindedness...aren't I? Yeah, here they are:
Wish me luck, well, guts...uh, courage.
All My BEST!!

How I like my subjects :)
Current mood: cheerful
Category: Art and Photography
I love chubby women. Women with real hips and curves. Women who laugh loudly. Skinny women? If you've got muscles on you, come on right in. Your great energy will do. I love that about just as much as I love chubby women. If you're skinny and flabby, just don't bother. It won't turn out good anyways.
Oh, I'm talking about drawing and painting women. The best ones come with confidence besides a nice set of boobs. Venus has nice hips and she's definitely on the chubby side.
Chubby is not obese. Chubby women move with grace and full of sensuality. Chubby is real and beautiful. Chubby is enjoying dessert first and eating real food. Chubby is beautiful skin and radiant energy. If you take society standard on weight out of the equation, don't you notice chubby women are often much happier than skinny ones?
Besides, to me, chubby women are much prettier anyway....
Oh, I finally got this piece finished....

Be Happy
Current mood: relieved
Category: Life
This maybe the year of acceptance.
Accepting that my size 6-8 body may not be coming back, hence all the pretty clothes I've been hanging onto for the past however many years may really have to go.
Accepting that I can't keep plucking out every grey hair on my hear when I spot them because if I keep up the plucking, I will soon be unnaturally bald premmaturely. Now that I've stopped plucking, all the white hair waiting in the wing have sprung out audaciously. Like the new hatched turtles on the Galapagos Island, I heard, if the first one heading for the ocean got picked up by predator, the rest stay put; otherwise, they all dash for the ocean when the coast is cleared. The daily stare down continues though....
Accepting that now I really found what I'm great at, I need not keep looking around for something better. I can focus on my life. Finally.

Cranking along with the best of them...
Current mood: contemplative
Category: Life
Yeah, here we are, end of January. I think I achieved several of goals for the first half of the year already. This is a crunch year, when things happen and fall into place, the way I had designed, worked and hoped to happen. There is so much excitment ahead that I've gotta contain myself or I'll explode all over the place.
I just got into a local alternative art space to show my art and got juried into a Valentine's show, details at my web site http://www.artvenusstudio.com If I just get my art out, I will be able to show them and sell them. I've reconsidered my prices so that I look at it from not just mine, but the viewer and potential buyer's point of view instead of these are my babies and I'm not gonna let them go, here's a real tight grip, people can have it for a million bucks. I guess I wasn't really interested in selling before since I hadn't had enough time with them myself. But I'm still not giving them away since if it's really cheap, then it's better that I have them than some bargain hunter have a piece of my heart and soul. I would never feel good and be at peace with underselling myself that way. That would cause problems everywhere in my art and life. Don't want that. I think now it's more of a business approach. It's really exciting though. Of all the business scenarios I've been through, I finally got to the one that's me, very personal and intimate yet logical and realistic.
Oh, worked more on this piece, just taking my sweet time.

Hub cab, good...
Current mood: artistic
Category: Life
Welcome 2007! This is going to be a KICK-ASS year, oop, uhh, I mean a FANTASTIC year! I can't believe how much I have already done in just the first 10 days of this year. I am really snapping out of my slumber!
Finally got the chance to go back to this painting. There is always this sense of hesitance before I do this to a carefully painted piece. But if I couldn't let go, who's going to make me? So out comes all my stamps and some new ones. I realized the previous pieces have stamps that have smaller shapes and in a large size paper tend to become busy and sometimes lost, so I'm adding some larger shapes this time.
I saw a hub cab the other day on the street, and I almost stopped the car to get it. I am really becoming a scavanger at my older age. I'm not sure to be proud of it or be quiet about it. Some of my favoritest teachers are quality scavangers, nothing is beneath them. Someday, I am sure I'll come up to their level, hopefully....
Of course, I am not done. One of the hardest things for me is to close the lid and say I'm done. To me that means saying good-bye to the piece, and that means I am absolutely happy with it and nothing more could be add to it, well, how could that ever be with anything?
I had fun though, gonna have more later.... good night!

Screaming....pain, joy, and happy boots...
Current mood: optimistic
Category: Art and Photography
Wow, it's almost the end of 2006..... where did the year go? I think I'm ready for 2007 though. So much to look forward to... I'm Excited!!
Went to see Lily yesterday. She's a accupressure masseuse. I'm aching all over, but in a way that I know when these aches are over, I'll feel sooooo much better. She found my feet yesterday. They're in even worse shape than my lower back. I screamed and begged in such pathetic ways for mercy. Yeah, she's not the you go to feel good and connected with nature kind of masseuse. The 3 of us who go to see her in our household speak of her with fear and gladness. How could someone less than 100lbs. have fingers like steel and strength like Gorilla glue? But we so long for someone capable of helping us dissolve our never-ending tiring muscles and achy backs. Now Dave stands taller, sister is aware when she slouches in front of her computer, and me, I'm just happy if I could sit comfortably for an hour at a time.
Here's what the current painting in progress looks like... Love the spashes of colors mixing up with each other and the movement of the figure itself. Not too crazy about the head though. gonna wipe it off and try something else... Yes, you can wash off stuff on watercolor paper, you just gotta be gentle and quick.

Of Beauty and Grace....
Current mood: creative
Category: Life
Making much progress in the dinning room clean up. Years of mails, paperwork, books, notes, trinkets and stuff has been filed, tossed out, returned to shelves....whew, we're pigs! Good thing we're having a party, otherwise, them tabletops will never see the day light.
Got my studio open today and tomorrow. Only haven't gotten into the cakes, cookies and dark chocolate mints. Other goodies are already broken in. Well, they don't show, I just eat.
Have been trying to take pix of my work in progress. Having the hardest time while keepping studio open, and do timed exposure pix, not to mention the usual proper alignment of camera to paper, and the even exposure of light. Some day, I'll find someone to show me how it should work!
But here's a best attempt out of the 23 shots. Just started last week, haven't gone too far with it, but it'll be nice when I'm done with it.
