Tokyo tore through OBC wreaking mayhem with turbo basslines and psychedelic guitar licks as DJ Tsuyoshi (aka Numanoid) and partner in crime Funky Gong tag teamed a set of deep underground electro rock. Lunatic beats under the full moon, with remixes of classics like Deep Purple's Smoke on the Water and Search & Destroy by Metallica inducing an air guitar frenzy on the dancefloor.
VENUE DATES TIMES Sky Garden and Ocean Beach Club May 15, 16, 18 & 19 11 pm
DJ Mason
DJ Mason shares one thing with Mr. Hatfield – there's a lot of hype about him. The young Dutch DJ is widely considered as one of the most exciting producers of electro house in the world right now. He literally burst onto the scene in 2006 with his breakthrough hit Exceeder, whose production values, technicality and sheer dancefloor vim upped the ante on the burgeoning electro house scene. The young DJ/Producer happens to be a classically trained violinist and he's been able to successfully channel this musicality into his electronic work without becoming obscure or avant garde. He also likes to have a laugh – as indicated by his recent 'De-Mix' of Exceeder, when he transposed the piece and had it played by a brass band. His late 2007 release, Bermuda Triangle received massive airplay, with no less than three spins on Pete Tong's influential Radio One show. An Essential Mix is soon to follow…but why wait when you can catch him live right here courtesy of Sky Garden (15 May) and Ocean Beach Club (16 May).
DJ Hyper
DJ Hyper remains one of the pioneering faces of the electroclash scene, one of the artists to have been able to take the genre mainstream, with his work as both DJ and producer featured on such hallowed labels as Bedrock, for whom he served up two much lauded mixes under the Bedrock Breaks banner. His last set was a technically masterful mix entitled "Wired" on his own Kilowatt imprint. Hyper, aka Guy Hatfield hails from Oxford in the UK – he first came to prominence at the beginning of the millennium when electroclash was a new phenomenon, his mix CD compilations, most notably the highly regarded Y3K series – had promoters and fans alike clamoring for a taste of his grinding bass lines and twisted synths. Straddling the digital boundary between punk and electronica as he does, it made sense for Hyper to form a rock n roll band – especially when he had ex Prodigy member Leeroy on board as well as ex Pitchshifter axe-man Jim Davies and The Light and PEN's front man Ronnie to boot. The outcome was the debut album We Control under the name Hyper which came out last year and saw them touring the major festivals to deliver live P.A's. At the end of 2007, Hyper delivered another slamming DJ set through his Kilowatt label, showcasing the familiar mix of shattering dancefloor rockers for which he's famed. Watch him tear up both Sky Garden (18 May) and Ocean Beach Club (19 May) – and revelers, don't fall off the roof or into the pool.
