Auditions for "The Trojan Women 2.0"

Atlas Theatre Ensemble will be holding auditions for its second show of the 2008-2009 season, "The Trojan Women 2.0".

Originally, David Mamet's "American Buffalo", was scheduled to appear in this slot. However, due to the B'way revival planned for 2009, the rights were pulled, and Charles Mee has been gracious enough to give us rights to his modern-day telling of the aftermath following the defeat of the Trojans by the Greeks. Atlas had several options in the air, but has settled on "Trojan Women 2.0", and couldn't be more thrilled to bring this Las Vegas premiere to our audiences!

Auditions will take place on Saturday, November 1st, from 3-5pm, at the Onyx Theatre (953 E. Sahara Aveneue). Please prepare a monologue to perform (any style/genre), and bring a photo and performance resume. There are roles for both men and women in this production (all ages and backgrounds). Rehearsals will begin in November; most being held at the Onyx Theatre. Performances will occur the last three weeks in January.

Auditions are by appointment only. Please email atlasartisticdirector@yahoo.com, to secure a slot (half are already gone!).And, go to atlastheatreensemble.com to learn more about our season, our sketch comedy troupe ("Feed The Monkey"), and our current production of "No Exit", running at the Beckett Festival (October 30, November 2 and 8th- all at 8pm!)

Scenic Faith

The ability of the actor to show toward the circumstances suggested in a play an attitude as serious as though they really existed, is called scenic faith. Scenic faith predicates the truthfulness of passions realized not only by the playwright through the verisimilitude of the sitations and the truth of the dialogue, but is also established by the actor through the credibility of his behavior on the stage.

If there is no will to believe, then the actor becomes a mere journeyman. The actor must take for truth whatever he creates out of his own fantasy. The faith of the actor is that quality which transports the audience. Thus at the very foundation of the theatre their lies the scenic faith of the actor and his ability to transform a theatrical fiction into a truth new to himself and to the audience. The more there is of this fiction on the stage, the richer and broader the creative potentialities of the actor. And the reverse; the less the fiction, the more there is of the naturalistic truth- the narrower the confines of the actor's creative personalities.

That is why we ask, "what if", and then go for it "as if".

THE BIRTH OF THE MONKEYS!!!

Well, it officially happened. At 11pm last night, our latest innovation, Feed The Monkey, sprang to it's feet and ran wild! All of the Atlas family in attendance was completely blown away and thrilled with the work that all of these talented comedians put on last night.

If you think about it, the feat of putting on a sketch comedy show is daunting! Script development, casting, production issues, rehearsals, more rehearsals, techs. And then, bingo! Showtime!!

The amazing thing is that, in less than a month now, they'll do it all over again! Brilliant, simply brilliant!

Atlas thanks all who attended last night, all of the production team for there work, and lastly (but, certainly not leastly) the cast of Monkey. You guys are amazing, talented, and committed artists, and Atlas is proud that you are a part of our ensemble!

LONG LIVE THE MONKEY!!!
