What is it about me that seems to scream PROSTITUTE!?!?!

Sorry folks, I forgot to write this blog when it happened and was just reminded of it talking to my cousin....

About a month ago my cousin came to Houston for a wedding. So the kids and I  drove down to see them. My cousin got us a very nice room at a Hilton. The boys and I got there, went for a quick dip in the pool, went to the reception, went to visit family of my cousins wife, came back to the hotel to sleep. All is well and normal...

The next morning I get up and plan to go downstairs to smoke a cigarette. As soon as I walk out of my room there is this man standing in the hallway just to my left who looks to be trying to get into his room. As soon as he sees me he starts yelling at me, "Go down. Go down." with an African accent.

At first I don't understand him. Then it dawns on me he wants the elevator. So, still standing at my room door I point and say, "The elevator is just down the hall that way."

He SEEMS like he understands and starts walking in the direction that I pointed. He gets about two rooms past me and then turns and trys to open another hotel room door, turns to me and says, "Here?"

Now I'm a bit freaked out so I say, "No keep going that way." I then turn around and go back into my room. I stay in my room for about ten mintues to give the guy time to find the elevator. I leave again to go smoke. Once I get to the elevator I see the guy at the other end of the hall. This time he has a member of housekeeping by the arm. He's pulling on her and yelling, "Come with me."

This woman is visibly terrified but doing that "I'm scared and don't know what to do laugh." I push the button for the elevator as I watch this scene. As soon as the doors open the guy lets go of the housekeeper and rushes towards me and gets into the elevator. I act as if I'm about to step inside but just as the doors begin to shut I back out and start walking toward the housekeeper while yelling down the hall to her, "Oh, I forgot I wanted to ask if I can I get some more towels please?"

She looks startled but then starts to get me towels as I reach her. When I get to her I tell her I don't really want any towels I just didn't want to get into the elevator with that man. She shakes her head and smiles, (I'm not sure she understood English) and I go back to the elevator to go smoke.

Downstairs I go outside and sit on a bench to smoke. The African guy is outside. He is now alternatating between yelling at the bellman for a cab and yelling at a couple who are trying to pack their car to leave. He keeps asking the guy if he is a cab, to which the guy keeps irritatingly aswering him, "No."

Finally the couple finishes packing their car and leave. The African yells at the bellman about a cab again and then walks over to me on the bench. He asks me if he can sit down. I don't answer, just move over. As soon as he sits down he says, "Do you sleep here?"

I look at him and say, "Well I did last night." He then asks, "Who paid for your room?" WTF!?!?

I now yell at him, "What the hell business of yours is that!?!?" He then says, "I want to give you money. You are a business woman. I want to pay you." WTF!?!?!

I say nothing, get up and move to another bench where another man was sitting smoking. Almost as soon as I sit down the African comes over and asks the guy I'm sitting next to if he can have a cigarette. The guy looks annoyed but hands him one and then gives him a light.

The African takes a drag just as a cab pulls up. He yells at the bellman again about a cab, then gets in, still smoking and they drive off.

Oh and I forgot to mention he is dressed in a very nice suit and carrying a Bible.

Now as strange as all this is, that was actually the SECOND time I have been accused of being a prostitue in the last few months. I almost got thrown out of a bar in Dallas when some douche bag who tried to pour a drink in my purse got pissed when  I told the bouncer and accused ME of propositioning him. The bartender who knew me was the only reason I didn't get bounced.

The morning in Houston I was wearing a knee length kaki skirt and a t-shirt and the night at the bar I was wearing the black and floral dress in my photo album.

So AGAIN the question is....WTF about me screams HOOKER!?!?

BEST/WORST lyrical rhyme EVER!!!!!

So I'm driving home from work yesterday, listening to some Hip-Hop station and not really paying attention.

I have no idea who the artist was or what the name of the song was but the line that caught my attention was:

"I'm gonna put you in a MANSION way up in WISCANSON."

WTF!?!?!?!

Ok why the hell you would think to put someone in a mansion in Wisconsin of all places is beyond me. But then to think to change the pronounciation to rhyme with mansion.... Pure GENIUS!

Keep it comin’

Sorry to be bombarding you all with book blogs lately. It's just nice to have POSITIVE news to share for a change and I'm trying to shift the vibes of the universe, so to speak.

Anyway, I talked to a friend of mine who has ties to the head of marketing for Barnes & Noble. She said that after watching the TV interview, which he was impressed with, he said that he is going to buy a copy of the book from Amazon and if he likes it he will speak to the independant B&N's who can do their own publicity without having to go through the corporate red tape to put it into those stores and do book sigings. Plus, he told her he has a connection in Random House, which not sure what that would mean, but still cool!!!!!!!!!

I should know something in a few weeks to a month or so.

So keep your fingers crossed and your prayers and good wishes flowing. I believe that they are helping.

Love and thanks to you all for the support.

Leslie

Let the good times roll....

As a result of sending out the link to the TV interview, a lady I had sent the book to has asked me to write and article for their care giver's magazine and possible put an excerpt of the book in as well. It's a small step but I'm excited.

I guess she didn't mind my boney knees poking through my suit. lol

Good Morning Texas Interview was AWESOME!!!!!!

I was scared to death but it went really well.

The head of the Community Services Dept. is trying to hook me up with medical organizations in the area to help promote the book.

Plus there was a lady there from A large hospital here in Dallas who said she would connect me with the person who puts together speaking engagements.

The guy who interviewed me, Gary Cogill, who is also the stations movie critique and can be very tough is trying to hook me up with his connections with the Alzheimer's Association and Leeza Gibons and her Alz. foundation. I already have a call in to them and waiting on a call back. Plus he sent me this:

Thanks Leslie,  for your kind note

Glad it was a good experience for you…

It's a good book …congrats…

I'll hunt down some info and send it your way  from the leeza gibbons foundation

Every little bit to help

All my best

Gary Cogill

How about a book that you thought was great but didn't make a best-sellers list? We want to hear from you about your summer reading, tell us what you read, and why you thought it was a fantastic book.

Suzy Confuzy Asks THE GoToNegro

I know you haven't had an Ask the GTN in a while so I'd thought I'd write to you.
I have a 40 yr old white manager at work who is a huge fan of the "Whad up" nod. It's just so wrong to see someone like him do that. Should I mention something to him or just keep letting him look ridiculious? Oh and I can't spell so I may have some misspelled words.
.. ..

Suzy Confuzy....

.. ..

Dear Confuzed Caucasian,....

.. ..

If you hadn't noticed it is now the "IN THING" to be and/or seem either black, urban, or hip-hopesque, with some Latin flare thrown in for good measure.

It started in the prison yards, where all cool trends should…and has filtered into mainstream society. Even our own current president couldn't help himself recently when he adopted the "Obama Fist Bump" on national television with one of..America's youth. ....

So don't be a hater honey. Let the poor man reach for some sense of cool; it's probably the only chance he has.

Shush with your freedom of speech already...

Protestors interrupted a speech given today by our president at the home of Thomas Jefferson.

As the protestors shouted remarks against our occupation of Iraq, our president took it in stride and with a smile said to the crowd, which included many soon to be citizens, "Here in this country we have freedom of speech," which brought on a round of applause AND....

...the Secret Service and security who promptly handcuffed and lead the protestors away.

Full circle...
Current mood: apathetic

It's been awhile, I know. Sorry to anyone who's written to me who I seem to have ignored. I just needed a big break from the blog.

Quick update: Still in the house. The mortgage company is willing to renegotiate our loan if we come up with monies by next Tuesday. I THINK Mike is gonna do it but it may mean he has to move back in and do our orginal plan of co-habitation until we can both get financially solvant...Actually ME more so than him, especially since I STILL haven't been able to find work since I got laid off in February. Wish us luck.

My book (Forgotten Tomorrows Crazy Todays) has been reedited and is again available on line at: www.Amazon.com and www.Target.com . Other than that, no news on it, nor the movie.
