For those of You Who Want to know the Other Side of ME
Current mood: anxious
Category: Blogging
Well, I must say I have been getting questions about who I really am underneath this sweet southern exterior. So I have decided to let all of my closest friends in on the real me.
I think you will be surprised at what you find. There is an old saying in Georgia that Southern Women (true Southern Women ) are like a steel hand in a velvet glove that would be me.
Go to the site I have provided and learn about little ole Georgia bred Yvonne. There are three blogs- and there will be more coming each Monday.
Also more good news !!! As they say Drum Roll please. I will be also blogging on Writers in the City. So if you haven't made them their friend do so. I will be writing about all kinds of things. You never know what will pop from my keyboard. See you there.

You have to read this- don’t pass it up!!!!
Current mood: focused
Category: Writing and Poetry
Okay so the title won't fit - So let me try again here.
Do you know when you have written a true crime book that smacks of being a best seller?
No? Well, boys and girls and children of all ages. I do.
Let me enlighten all of you.
As you all may or may not know I have been working on a true crime book for well let's just say a while. A bit ago I finally finished it.
The crime? I am glad you asked. The crimes (notice the plural) were perpatrated by an ex-Martin County Flordia Deputy Sheriff between 1966-1972. He was the first serial killer in Florida. He got caught because he got sloppy.
Anyway- due to the interest my lovely husband Jack (who by the way is retired from the 19th judicial circuit in Florida as the Executive Director and investigator which is a whole other story) generated when I first got to Florida, I decided to write this book. The victims screamed to be heard.
During the course of my research I came across many in law enforcement who not only encouraged me to write the victims stories, they helped in so many ways.
One of those people was FBI Agent (retired) Roy Hazelwood. He gave me wonderful information and then he honored me by writing a review on the manuscript which is not due to be released until later this year- September as a matter of fact.
Another retired law enforcement agent was Chuck Hemp- he retired from Oakland Park, Fl. PD. He acutally worked one of the cases as did my husband Jack.
Chuck also read the manuscript after it was finished and he also wrote a review.
These reviews are listed on this blog. This book has had such an impact on those who worked the cases and on me as a writer. I am not sure there are even enough words to describe the impact it has had. When I finshed the book I read the very last chapter to Jack and he was visible moved. I then called Vern my publisher and read it to him- he couldn't even speak.
This book is for the girls. It is their voice - they are no longer silent.
Read the reviews and let them speak to you. The manuscript is already at the screenplay writer's - it is being written for the big screen- it will be a block buster and a bestseller.
Review By: Roy Hazelwood, FBI (retired)..:NAMESPACE PREFIX = O />
Author of Dark Dreams and
The Evil That Men Do
"Yvonne Mason has captured the true essence of Gerard Schaefer, a deputy sheriff who enjoyed torturing and killing young women. It is a gripping story and you should prepare to be disturbed. I guarantee that you will find it difficult to put this book down."
Review By:
Det. Lieutenant Chuck Hemp OPPD Ret.
When Gerald Schaefer used his badge and gun to terrorize and kill rather than protect and serve he crossed a line that not only snuffed out the lives of his victims but also affected the lives of their loved ones and the police officers charged with investigating these crimes.
In her book "Silent Scream" Yvonne Mason has captured more than just the story, but has also given voices to all of Schafer's unknown victims.
I'm sure there are many.
Gerard John Schaefer was the epitamy of evil. He ruined many lives besides those of his victims.
Be prepared to delve into the evil that was Schaefer- be prepared to listen to the screams that are no longer silent. Be prepared to hear the girls.
This book is for them- sleep well!!!!

This week I talk about the Eight Amendment which is an inportant part of hunting.http://www.leelofland.com/wordpress/

Just When I think things are getting me down!!!!
Current mood: blessed
Category: Writing and Poetry
I was sitting at my computer today wondering if I really wanted to continue the path I am on. I was debating with myself about whether or not I wanted to continue to put words on paper. If I really wanted to continue to beat my head against that brick wall.
I had been quietly having this arugment with my inner self for a few days. I was weighing the pros and cons and if there was any worth in even trying anymore.
For those of you who don't know me I have been doing this for a long time. More years than probably most of you have been on this earth. Anyway, back to my debate with my other self. The one I call Layla.
Layla had been telling me that it wasn't worth it, it was time to quit. That no one really cared if I was in print or not. She was having a field day with my head and psychic. I was beginning to grow weary of her voice whispering her little thoughts even when I was asleep. So just to shut her up, I was ready to quit.
On a whim I sent out an e-mail to someone who had helped me with a true crime book which is to be released in Sept. I asked him if he would be willing to do a review for me. He knew the criminal and he knew the crime. Agent Hazelwood used my criminal as his foundation to set up the FBI profile department. So as I said, I sent him an e-mail.
Imagine my surprise when I got back from running errands - there was a reply to me e-mail. Agent Hazelwood said he would be very happy to review the book. He asked me to send him the manuscript. So I did.
Of course Layla is not very happy right now- But for now - I think I will keep doing what I do best. Put words to paper for others to read and maybe learn from.

Blogging for Crime
Current mood: adventurous
Category: Writing and Poetry
Okay Boys and Girls,
Beginning Tomorrow Monday June 9th, I will appear in The Graveyard Shift. It is a blogging site which talks about many different things for writers espeically how to write crime novels.
I will be educating folks on the skill of Bounty Hunting as well as the history and the reason for Habaes Corpus. I will talk about the laws in each state and if there are recipical agreements for carrying in a firearm. I will explain what it takes to hunt, and how not to go in with guns blazing. (Not a good thing at all)
I will teach on how most of the time hunting is research and stakeouts. It is not the glamourous job protrayed by Dog and others who use the TV for their hype.
So come join me beginning June 9th and learn all you wanted to know about Hunting. By the way it didn't orginate in the Wild Wild West- if you want to know where it orginated you have to read the blog which is listed below http://www.leelofland.com/wordpress/

Public Speaker

Yvonne Mason: Successful Author and Successful Speaker
By TRIAD Publishing Group Dated: Apr 18, 2008
Yvonne Mason is adding successful speaker to her list of ever growing talents
Yvonne Mason has been donating her time to motivational and educational speaking engagements. She recently gave a presentation at the Indian River Community College (IRCC) to the Public Speaking Class on "How to Sell One's Self in the Business World".
Before giving her presentation, she reminded the class that every day we use our skills as a public speaker, not just when we are in front of an audience. Citing such examples as buying a car, applying for a job or even inviting a friend to a party, the class sat in rapt attention taking note that every time we have a conversation, it really is public speaking. "I think it really is important to point out these examples as it helps to take away the fear of speaking in public which many have," Ms. Mason stated.
Using her latest novel Tangled Minds and her short story featured in the From the Shadows anthology, she illustrated the art of selling one's product. Passing around the books, her enthusiasm for her writing was clearly evident as she gave a brief overview of each. Reading excerpts as well as glowing reviews, the students clearly hung on to every word.
Apparently her speech was a huge success - after class, she sold every book and ended up taking orders for more.
Yvonne has a wonderful philosophy in life which she calls paying it forward. "I can't repay those who have helped me learn to be a good speaker, however, I can pay it forward and in turn teach the same to others," Ms. Mason stated.
This is the second year she was invited back to IRCC to give a speech. Last year's lecture was entitled "How to Reach Your Goals - It's Never Too Late" which was presented to adult women returning to school to become professionals in different fields.
If you are interested in featuring Yvonne Mason as a guest speaker, please contact her agent at jshanburn@triadpublishinggroup.com
