I’m the Ghoul of the Month...
Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities

Hey guys,

I'm the Ghoul of the Month in this month's issue of Virus Magazine, Germany's biggest horror mag. Haven't seen the article yet, but I hear there's a poster! Heehee.

Here's a few of the pics they should have published -- old Hollywood glamour, I love them...

Once again, the photographer's Titus Powell. T., you rock!

What do you think?

New photos!
Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities

Just got a new set a photo from London-based photographer Titus Powell, who'd already done the previous batch I posted a few weeks ago.

What do you think?

And this one's for my friend who complained I never smiled in pictures:

My first book’s been announced!!
Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities

Hey guys,

Here's the cover design for my first book, "It Lives Again! Horror Movies in the New Millennium", which has just been officially announced today. I'm very proud of it!

As you can see, Neil wrote the foreword, a smart and sweet note about the book and its author; and Mick Garris wrote a brilliant introduction which alone justifies buying the book. There's also dozens of interviews with everyone from Eli Roth to Stuart Gordon, and tons of reviews. Horror fans should love it (hopefully), but it should be a good read for movie fans in general too.

No release date yet, but it should be some time in the fall. You can pre-order it HERE.

So, what do you think of the cover?

Sirens of Cinema
Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities

The new issue of Sirens of Cinema, out later this week, has a four-page spread about yours truly, with a big interview! I'm so proud...

We discuss everything from Doomsday to I Love You to my new book "It Lives Again!", a study of horror movies since 2000s that I'm actually finishing this week.

Buy Sirens, check out the article, and let me know what you think!

In other news, I've just been cast in a couple of new features (one of them is Dan Walton's Bind, a slasher film we'll hopefully be shooting this fall in Canada) and a short film I'll tell you all about shortly!

More news soon... :)

Photoshoot
Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities

First of all, before I forget: this month's IGN column has appeared online a couple of days ago, and this time I look at Asian remakes:

Eastern Promise

Also, I've been interviewed for the website Pretty-Scary, and the interview should be online tomorrow. I'll post the direct link as soon as I have it.

Now last week I did a photoshoot with London-based photographer Titus Powell and I'm so pleased with the results that I decided to post a couple of pics here. There's more, but I'll have to save them for publication.

In the meantime, let me know what you think of these...

Interviews + Doomsday!
Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities

During my years as a film reporter, I've interviewed hundreds of directors, actors, and crew people. Now thanks to my involvement in Doomsday, my upcoming book and my roles in I Love You and The Descent 2, I've had the opportunity to see what the world looked like from the other side of the table...

I've already posted a few links in my bulletins, but this one deserved to find itself in my blog. It was conducted by Nic Brown for the website B-Movie Man, and it's a pretty in-depth interview. Let me know what you think!

Also in last Sunday's edition of North East newspaper Sunday Sun, I found this funny little article:

You'll find the text here. It's written by Coreena Ford, who happens to be on MySpace. It's a small world! The title suggests the article's more about Neil than about me, but Neil being from the North East, he's the local star of the couple, a Geordie who made it. Me, I'm not even from the UK! :)

Finally, since Doomsday gets released in the UK this Friday, I thought I'd post a few pics you haven't seen yet. Enjoy...

FrightFest D-Day
Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities

The awesome London-based horror festival  FrightFest organized a special event last Saturday on Leicester Square to celebrate the upcoming release of Doomsday in the UK: D-Day, a Dog Soldiers/The Descent/Doomsday triple bill. They invited Neil and me of course, but also most of the cast and crew of all 3 films; and they even got this poster made by Graham Humphreys, the artist who painted the Evil Dead II and Nightmare on Elm Street posters:

Over 300 people gathered at the Odeon Leicester Square. Here's a few familiar faces in the crowd.

From left to right: Christian Colson (producer of The Descent 1 and 2), Saskia Mulder, Neil, DOP Sam McCurdy, yours truly, and FrightFest organizor extraordinaire Paul McEvoy:

In big conversation with Sean Pertwee:

Beyond The Rave Art Director Melanie Light:

Hammer Films's Nic Ransome and Mel:

Leslie Simpson (who was in all 3 films) and his awesome girlfriend Sarah, SFX prosthetics artist Paul Hyett, and me:

Neil with Saskia, Shauna McDonald, Nora-Jane Noone and her boyfriend Paul (not one of the two Pauls already mentioned :)) and Chris Robson:

With Paul McEvoy and my pal Giles:

After the screenings, Q&As and the signing, we moved on to the Phoenix bar for a drink all together. Here's Paul - again - and Paul - again:

Thanks to Paul, Alan, Ian and Greg for such a great day! If you were there, let me know what you thought of the event, and if you have pics, please share!

By the way, thanks to everyone for your comments on my acting headshot. I followed your advice and already used the one you liked as my main pic on imdb:

Acting news + Help me decide!
Current mood: rockin
Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities

First off, I've just been cast in a small part in a big horror sequel! More on that later, but for now, just know that it's a speaking part in a movie that will get a theatrical release. It's all good!

Also, Tristan Versluis's excellent short film I Love You, which I mentioned earlier, was screened last Sunday as the closing short of the Dead by Dawn festival in Edinburgh, Scotland, and the audience shouted, applauded and seemed to love it. Here we are -- Tristan's on the right, with his girlfriend and his mum; DOP Stuart White is in the middle:

I Love You got some cool mentions, including a great review from Fangoria writer MJ Simpson:

Just to clarify, by the by: my name is AXELLE CAROLYN, not Axelle Marshall. I've found at least three different versions of my name online lately, but "Carolyn" is a last name, not a middle name, and I'll keep using it professionally.

Finally, I got some new acting headshots, taken by I Love You DOP Stuart Nicholas White, who happens to be a great photographer. Here's my favorite two -- I can't decide which one to use, so I need you guys to help me make a choice. Let me know which one you like best!

Beyond the Rave Hammer Party!
Current mood: bouncy
Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities

As some of you already know, the new incarnation of Hammer Films released last night the first episode of the first Hammer production in nearly thirty years: online serial Beyond The Rave, in collaboration with Pure Grass Films.

My friends Nora-Jane Noone and Leslie Simpson had starring roles in it, so I got in touch with the producers early on, and helped them spread the word that Hammer was back amongst horror fans. Last night was the launch of the first episode, and to celebrate, I attended what may well have been the first official Hammer party in over two decades.

Here I am with producer Ben Grass, lead actor Jamie Dornan and two unidentified girls. Funny thing is, when you look at the pics on official photo websites, the photographers were way more interested in those chicks than in anyone who actually had something to do with the movie... (UPDATE: for those who care, I found out they're TV actresses; they were also in the St Trinian's remake. Whatever.)

As you can see, the party was meant to look like a rave. Only we were all a good ten years too old (and a good ten years too far from the end of the nineties) to actually dance. A weird concept, but it matched the film pretty well.

Here's lead actress Nora-Jane Noone (or N-J, as we call her) and her boyfriend Paul.

Here she is again, with director Matthias Hoene and Les.

Les could not be stopped that night.

Amongst other guests, director Rob Green (The Bunker)...

...Jake West (Evil Aliens)

...and Rick Warden (Doomsday and TONS of other things)

So anyways, you get the message. Go have a look at Beyond the Rave on MySpace, it's free. New eps every Monday and Wednesday!

I Love You...
Current mood: excited
Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities

Early March, my friend Leslie Simpson (who appears in all of Neil's films, and in Hammer's Beyond the Rave) and I starred in I Love You, a short film by SFX wizard Tristan Versluis (Hot Fuzz, Sweeney Todd, and Adam Mason's movies.)

The shoot was only one day long, and it was an absolute blast. I wasn't sure what to expect, having never worked with Tristan before, but Les and I were happy to find that the crew was incredibly friendly, quick and super professional. Among them, I have to give special credit to production designer Melanie Light, who carved  a whole table with little hearts and gathered the most improbable collection of carving instruments you could find.

Les's scenes were up first, and we were all in awe of his incredibly intense performance. He seemed out of his mind, and it looked amazing on camera...

...Which left me the difficult task to match his performance. Thankfully, our makeup artist Justyna Dobrowolska made me look perfectly insane.

I don't want to give away too much, because the movie's only 5 minutes long, and knowing what it's all about would spoil the fun. But I can tell you that this'll make a great Valentine's Day greeting card...

Shooting I Love You was such a great experience that combined with my thirty seconds in Doomsday, I've decided to give acting a shot. Auditions, here I am!

I Love You has already screened at the Brussels Film Festival, and will be shown at Dead By Dawn in Edinburgh on April 24th. Tristan's planning on touring more festivals, and it'll appear online later. I'll keep you posted, as always!
