def leppard
Current mood: annoyed
Category: Music
the other day as i sat down with my morning meusli and surfed the music channels on foxtel, def leppard's "let's get rocked" came on. i thought to myself, hey, i remember this, i loved it when it came out. foolishly, i sat through this woeful video and song in it's entirety. there were NO redeeming features to it whatsoever and i cursed my past naivety. the thing that gets to me most though is that i can't get that fucking song out of my goddamned head!!! arrgggggghhhhhhh!!!!!!

revelation: kroeger = lynne
ok it's been a while. but it's just dawned on me that jeff lynne was the chad kroeger of the 70s. E.L.O. were the Nickleback of the times. Jeff Lynne had an obsession with the beatles and strived to "make" hits. His tunes were targeted to be popular. I've read interviews with Chad Kroeger and he reckons he knows the "formula" to have a hit song and writes with this intention. Both these chumps write music that they think will be popular, "pop" songs if you will. But behind their theories, there is no pure feeling or emotion, no passion. Although catchy, their music is the definition of formulaic and lacks soul, which any true art requires to be truly "successful" in my book. Success not being who sells the most records, but to create something that is from within and an expression of who you are.
Now i don't know if these guys are related or what, but i reckon in about 30 years, some punk kid is gonna hear a Nickleback tune and go "hmmm, catchy, these guys are pretty good" as i admittedly did when hearing E.L.O., but i hope they dig a little deeper and see that behind the polished sheen of hooks, there really ain't much there............
it had to be said..... peace.

dirty cops
Current mood: awake
Category: News and Politics
here's how it happened. after a great night out with the ex and her friends, i stopped in at the shithole known as the vineyard as there was a band on and i wasn't ready to go home. i'd had a few drinks as per usual. the band was beki and the bullets i think. they rocked. when they finished, i went across the road to get some more money out and go back to get a post gig drink. the fuckhead bouncer decides i can't come in. i asked why. no response as they were moving chairs around. i tried to walk in again. "you're not coming in. we're full". 3 girls passed me and went into the bar. i asked again why i couldn't come in. "because you're annoying" was the response. so i stood my ground OUTSIDE the bar and just kept questioning why. i was told to "fuck off" many times. i bouncer goes inside and lo and behold, two cops come out. the short, angry one starts in on me "go home mate, you can't come in". "but i haven't done anything. i'm not doing anything, i want to go in". the two cops are in my face. short, angry man grabs my arm and pinches under the bicep. a pretty good technique. i don't struggle, but continue to state that i've done nothing wrong. "go home mate, you're not welcome here!". i was fuming. i went down to the daulton, which was MORE than welcoming. i unloaded my grief to a poor, unsuspecting scotsman. he told me it's cool, it's a shithole and it's not worth it. i'm in agreeance to a point. he calmed me down a little, but i think it was too late. so i went down there again. the vineyard was closing, but the two bouncers spotted me again and again told me to fuck off. so i heads home, take a look at the massive bruise which has come up on my bicep. i was pissed off. i hightailed it to st.kilda police station. nobody at the desk. a constable appears from behind the mirrored window, looking bothered. "yes?" he says. i made my complaint of abuse by the other two cops from the bar and showed him my bruise. "i can't help you mate. what did you do?". nothing i told him. "well i can't do anything for you". "do you want me do get my supervisor?". i told him yes. he disappears behind the window, 10 seconds later angry, bald sargeant comes around. he looks at me as if i'm a criminal, trying to stare me down."what do you want? i'm busy". it was almost 4 in the morning. i stood my ground with him too, and calmly told him the same story. he defended his boys and apparantly the rights of bars is that they can refuse entry to whomever they want, as was his explanation. i apologised for wasting his time and left.
so if a bouncer just doesn't like you, he might not let you in. that's fucked. lesson learned though:
*the vineyard is a stupid shithole run by arrogant, rude, brainless fucks.
*the cops stand by each other and don't want to listen to the public
*short, angry man disease is alive and well.
the cops want to start a political party. i believe the quote from last night's news was "i believe the public will embrace our political party because it's a matter of trust". i don't trust the cops. i don't trust politicians. you do the math.

DOWN + BLACK SABBATH
Current mood: sore
Category: sore Religion and Philosophy
  oh. my. god.
i don't know how to put this really. my neck is caning from the havoc wreaked by DOWN. they were goddamn awesome, no question. phil anselmo was in fine form, working the crowd, cracking jokes, singing up a thunderstorm. the band were on fire, clearly enjoying themselves and having as much fun as the fans who've waited for this since down were conceieved. my highlights were the opener "lysergik funeral procession", the next track, dedicated to dimebag darryl "lifer". ooh that kicks ass! "ghosts along the mississippi", "losing all". i couldn't believe it when they played "stone the crow" and i therefore lost my mind and control of my body. but to cap it all off, they finished with a blistering "bury me in smoke". now, this just sent everyone, as ozzy would say, CRRAAZZZZZZYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!! Me included. :)
then came the gods. geezer, tony, ronnie james and vinnie. elder statesmen. pioneers. they were heavy. they were meticulous. they were tight. they were having fun. dio's voice was amazing and he had heaps of enery. the band didn't bat an eyelid as they casually strolled the stage. the sound again, was perfect. iommi blew my mind. opening with "mob rules" followed by their first song written together "children of the sea" sent shivers down the spine. a twenty minute version of "heaven and hell" was killer. nothing could be heavier than the doom laden riffs in "shadows of the wind". great drum solo by vinnie appice and the giant gong mallet was hilarious. great vibes from the audience. shit, it's so hard to put into words how good this night was. encore was "neon knights". fuck yeah!!!

musing
Current mood: i need to pee
so i was cleaning my bathroom the other day 'cos we were due for an inspection. there was HEAPS of mould on the walls so bought me some EXIT MOULD. reading the instructions, i came across this little nugget of info:
"make sure the area you are cleaning is well ventilated"
i thought "if the area i'm cleaning was well ventilated, it wouldn't me mouldy."
many of you may find this trite, boring and uninspired. but these are my thoughts and i just wanted to share.
oh, and here's a joke u may have heard:
a guy walks into a psychiatrist's office wearing only cling wrap. the psychiatrist says: " i can clearly see your nuts".
