Joe Riley has decided to drop out of Backlash. So we are back to Shawn and Brian holding up the vocals. We're sorry to see Joe leave, he's a great frontman and things were really coming together, but this is his decision. We enjoyed our time playing with both Joe and J and wish them both the best. And I hope the door will remain open for Joe should he change his mind.
It took me a long time to come to this decision, but I have decided to take an extended break from music. There are several reasons why I am doing this, but mainly I want to focus more on getting my life back in order. There are too many people who have supported me & helped me with 12YC & through the transition to Backlash, & in my personal life, than I can list here, so you know who you are, & THANK YOU! I am not "giving up" on my music. I WILL be back playing as soon as I get through this difficult period. I need to focus right now on my kids & my wonderful girl & my family so I can get myself back on track. Hopefully it will be sooner rather than later. But who knows, eh? ;) ~j~

BACKLASH - The Official News
Current mood: optimistic
Category: Music
It isn't news that Backlash shows have been few and far between since Danny's wreck. For the most part the only shows we have been doing are Wall shows. Which is fine but they've been limited to two per month and the time between shows seems longer and longer.
We've had to beg and borrow bass players from anywhere we can and that has led to some less than stellar shows. And when we aren't on the road consistently some of us become very restless and difficult to get along with. I'm in another band but it only plays, on average, once a month or once every other month. Not to mention a couple of us actually rely on some of the money we make as a band.
Meantime, across the street and down the road our friends 12 Years Coming were also having problems. They were having to look forward to borrowing drummers from anywhere they could to fill in until they found a permanent replacement for Rob, who had decided to retire from the road.
So out of the blue, literally, the founding members of 12YC and the members of Backlash decided to try to take two struggling bands and make one powerhouse band. Basically Joe Riley and J have decided to close the doors on 12YC and join Backlash. We are hoping this will be a monster combination. 12YC fans will still get the same original songs and showmanship that they've come to expect and Backlash fans will still hear the same originals and covers that they've come to expect from us and hopefully a new energy that we haven't shown in awhile.
There will also be some other big surprises at coming shows and more news.
We hope that both bands fans, friends and family will embrace this new venture. We're all pretty optimistic about it and hope that our fans will be too. Hopefully the transition will be seamless, but it will have both sides learning new material so there's likely to be some amusing moments until we get it all down pat again. Also we will have a period of merging and working out schedules. 12YC has shows still booked as does Backlash and we need to work our schedules into each other. Thus far there are only a couple of schedule conflicts that hopefully we can work out.
As for The Wall shows we intend to keep Gene Morrow on bass for those shows. He has gone through the pain of two months of rehearsals for it and to bring J in and push Gene out would only mean another month of rehearsals and anyone that knows Backlash knows that we hate to rehearse.
Now what about Danny. As we have said all along the door will remain open to him whenever he is ready and capable to step back in, but the unfortunate reality is that he has a very long and hard road of recovery ahead of him. We will continue doing what we can to raise money for his recovery and we will always consider him our friend, family and band mate. In the meantime, we as a band need to continue.
That said we would like to welcome Joe and J into the family and invite our fans and friends to do the same. We'll see you on the road soon.
Wall Pictures From The Boobie Trap & The Lounge
Current mood: busy
Category: Music
Friday night at The Boobie Trap was the maiden voyage of our production of The Wall.
Saturday night at The Lounge in York was twice the wall (120 bricks), twice the lights and twice the production. It was actually a scaled down version of the show that Pink Floyd toured in 1980.
If you missed it, you really missed it. But York will have another opportunity to see it in October.
Your next chance to see it will be Friday August 8th at Simmon's Auditorium in Marysville KS and then Saturday August 9th at The Lizard Lounge in Fairbury NE (Ooo, I still have a wallet full of coupins...P.S. If Ron hands you something that looks like a wine bottle IT'S NOT WINE!!)
We are working on other possible shows in Kansas City and Lawrence but they are only in the realm of possible maybe right now. Otherwise you only have four more chances to see it (I know the calender says five, but one of those dates is iffy at best).
All of our remaining Wall performances will be FULL production The only reason The Boobie Trap show wasn't full lights and production is because the size of the place and the stage made it impossible.
Our next show is Saturday July 26th. This will be a full benefit for Danny Tallent. It will feature a Poker Run at 11:00am, a buffet and performances beginning at 4:00pm by Backlash, 12YC, J.D. Nash, Fate's Design and Shot In The Dark. There will also be raffles throughout the day. All proceeds go to Danny Tallent to be used towards his ever growing medical bills, expenses and his road to recovery.
We have shirts for each show i.e. a shirt for the Boobie Trap show, a shirt for the Lounge show etc.
The plan had been for regular tour shirts listing all of the dates but some dates are still up in the air. As dates are confirmed new shirts will be added.
Also J.D. Nash has posted a blog with an idea of essentially pimping Backlash & Red Circle to the highest bidder. Below is a copy of his blog with the details.
OK...here we go...
This is our latest idea to raise much needed funds for the Tallent Family.
We are going to auction off "an evening with Backlash AND/OR J.D. Nash & Red Circle".
One or both of the bands will play a private performance for the winning bidder.
**there are some stipulations. The gig must be booked for after Labor Day, 2008. There must be enough room to perform and enough electricity to run everything (unless you want a completely unplugged show), the minimum winning bid for one band must be $400 or $800 for both and the show must be within a 150 mile radius of Topeka, Kansas unless travel expenses are paid by the winning bidder**
Nightclub/Bar/Restaurant owners are also encouraged to bid for this show. The bands will also do their best to bring "special celebrity guests" along, although we can make no promises at this time.
All of the funds raised from this auction will go directly to the Tallent family to be used at their discretion for medical bills, travel expenses, memorial funds or WHATEVER they deem necessary.
As many of you know, Ashley (Princess Buttercup) Tallent lost her life in a tragic automobile accident in May. This accident also left Backlash/Red Circle bassist Danny Tallent in critical condition. He has recently been moved to the Madonna Center in Lincoln, Nebraska for further treatment.
These folks are part of the enormous Backlash/Red Circle family and the family is stepping up to help their individual families with much needed funds. We are asking our fans and friends to step up as well.
Ever wish Red Circle played more gigs, or that Backlash would play JUST FOR YOU AND YOUR GUESTS? Now you can have it.
Bids will be taken by message to this myspace account and will be posted on this blog and by bulletin on a daily basis.
Please remember who you're getting here...
J.D. Nash & Red Circle were submitted for 6 NAMMY nominations and are currently nominated for 2 Native-E Music Awards. They've shared the stage with acts such as Skylar Wolf, Chris Caffery of Savatage and Tran-Siberian Orchestra Fame as well as the Queen of German Metal, Doro Pesch.
Backlash has shared the stage with such acts as Eddie Money, Cheap Trick and the incomparable Alice Cooper to name but a few.
This could literally be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and remember ALL of the funds raised go to a very wonderful cause.
If you have any questions...message me and I'll answer asap.
LET THE BIDDING BEGIN!
Sincerely,
J.D. Nash
As a BONUS This show will include a 15 minute set with nationally known stand-up comedian Scott Long.
Latest Danny Tallent Update
Current mood: hopeful

From a post by his dad:
"We made it to Lincoln and Madonna was kind of a bitch to find and then the halls are another maze to get through. Danny is in room 147 and getting settled in. Staff here seem to be a lot friendlier than Stormont. Imediately Danny's restraints came off and seemed to really calm him down. And they are talking about getting rid of the cathader tonite and the trac real soon. They already got him to move his left leg some and talking alittle. He must be comng around, he asked for pizza and beer. Hopefully he will continue to make significant progresss. We just keep trying. More when I know more. Thank you all for being there."
