Happy Aboriginal Week!

Wow, it is almost officially the first day of summer and I am already having a good time. For those that don't know, summer solstice is known to First Nations as Aboriginal Day. So, the celebrations are just starting to begin.

I went to the Abbotsford Mini Pow Wow today. I had so much fun!

Speaking of this summer, 'BT Girls'  is in the summer issue of 'Say Magazine'. Make sure to pick up a copy if you can!

Shauna and I will be bringing the calendar to all of the Aboriginal Day festivities that we go to this week. If you are in the Vancouver area you should stop by and say hello! Also, it's a chance to pick up your own 'BT Girl Calendar'!

A bee stung my bum

I know I don't write as many blogs as I use to. So, I thought that a bee stinging my bum was a little blog worthy. It happened on the Fraser River. I was enjoying the beautiful Vancouver weather. Then I swatted away what I thought might be a bug or a bee. I assumed I was being a bit too paranoid about bees since it is hardly summer time yet. So, I decided that it was my long black pony tail. So I lay down on the log to enjoy the sun rays and the sound of the river washing up along the river bank. Then it happened! A bee stung my bum. I really don't know how I'm sitting on this chair right now, butt (ha ha), I am.

Water and Canadians
Current mood: concerned

First, thank you for all of the Birthday Wishes. I appreciate it! I truly feel loved. But, this blog isn't about my Birthday. It is about something much more important than that.

I felt that I had to write about something that is really important to everyone in Canada…Water.

Many water basins across Canada are becoming depleted of their resources. Wild salmon, caribou, bears, deer, moose, wolves, and other wild animals rely on the water for their existence. Not only do wild animals depend on the water resource, but humans.

My people (Carrier Dene) have always depended on the fish for livelihood, especially the salmon. That's why our villages are located on the lakeshore or along the river. In fact, the fish are so important that my people named the months of the year after them.

Almost a year ago a leaked document revealed that business and government leaders in Canada, the US and Mexico are discussing bulkwater exports. This means draining millions of litres of water from lakes across Canada and exporting it to other countries. This also means endangering wild animals, plant life and stealing from First Nations communities that depend on water.

Currently there is no national strategy to address water issues and no federal leadership to protect our waters. I urge all Canadians to write a letter to Stephen Harper and let him know that Canada needs a National Water Policy. His email is: pm@pm.gc.ca and his mail address is: Office of the Prime Minister, 80 Wellington Street, Ottawa, ON K1A 0A2.

Aunty Jacqui
Current mood: sad
Category: Blogging

Our Aunty Jacqui  passed away yesterday morning. It really hit everyone pretty hard. It was very unexpected. I really feel for all of my cousins on that side of the family. She left behind six children. I can only imagine what they are going through right now.

I know that Jacqui really left an imprint on my family's hearts. She was very close with my younger sister Emily. Aunty Jacqui really cared for Emily and has been  babysitting Emily since Emily was just a toddler. It broke my heart when my mother told me that when she told Emily about Aunty Jacqui passing away, Emily instantly collapsed. I don't know how nine year old children deal with death, but, it must be very hard.

The one thing I will always remember about Aunty Jacqui is that she was always happy and smiling. She always had something nice to say. In fact, I have never seen her unhappy, upset or mad. She was just happy. She touched everyone with that special way of hers and we are all the better for having known and loved her. We miss you so much, Aunty Jacqui, and we will always keep you in our hearts.

Computer Question
Current mood: bummed

Well, my computer is broken.

Yup. My computer froze, it wouldnt shut off. I figured that it would work itself out while I was away. I rushed to a photo shoot and while I was away someone unplugged it while I was gone and turned the computer back on. But, it just makes a wierd sound and wont turn on. Hopefully someone who is more computer literate than I am has some suggestions. *sigh*.

I have lots of stuff on my computer. The internal hard drive is only about 6 months old. So I *think* my files should be in tact.

BLOG UPDATE (February 5, 2008 @2:10am)

Wow, I wasn't expecting this many myspace responses! You are all SO wonderful! I decided I better post an update on this computer issue otherwise you all may still give me tons of helpful comments! By the way- thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

I brought my computer in today and the computer techs say that I need a new mother board. My files should be intact but considering my computer is over 4 years old its time to get a new one. A mother board is pretty pricey, and the other stuff is just bound to go sooner or later. So, i've decided im just going to buy a whole new computer and keep my internal hard drive.

With regards to the internal hard drive...I was thinking about turning it into an external hard drive. The computer tech described my internal drive as the mercedes/jaguar of all hard drives. Apparently I bought a really really good hard drive when I replaced mine 9 months ago. I already have an external hard drive, so, I will just give the external hard drive to my twin sister.

But, all you guys were SO helpful! Don't know what I would do with out you guys! I tried all of your advice before I brought it in.

It sucks when computers go bad, doesn't it? But, I will be buying a new computer tomorrow! Yay!!!

I haven't been able to do too much on a computer since my old computer is dead. I have been using Shauna's lap top...and I've been addicted to this game called 'Attack' on facebook. Honestly, I don't think I have wasted so much time on a game before!

2008 is going to be an AMAZING year
Current mood: happy

Happy New Year everyone! Shauna and I have been pretty busy so we haven't really gotten around to writing in our online journal on our website or in our myspace blogs. So, I guess this is the first blog entry of '08. I know that 2008 is going to be a wonderful and magical year! It just makes me curious as to what future blog entries we will be writing this year.

Our calendars are under way! It will be going to the printers pretty soon. We are pretty stoked about it! This past year we worked really hard on the calendar. And, we were very lucky to work with some amazing people on the calendar. We are having the 'BT Girls Calendar Release Party' on March 1st. We are extremely excited! March 1st also happens to be our birthday! By the way, The 'BT Girls Calendar' now has its own website at: www.thebtgirls.com

We went back home to Stellaqo for the holidays. We totally had a blast spending time with our family and friends back home. I almost didn't come back to Vancouver. I was having too much fun! I mostly spent my time skiing, snowmobiling, making up airbands with my little cousins and making snowmen.

Anyway, it truly is a beautiful day in Vancouver. I know I have a lot of work to do, but, I think I'm going to go play outside! I know it is warm and sunny, but, I miss the snow back home.
