CultureCandy’s Salon des Refusés (July 11th in Baton Rouge)
Current mood: sassy
Category: Art and Photography

Greetings,

For those of you in the Baton Rouge area and those of you that "might" be there this weekend and those of you just "trying" to keep up with me (doing good to do that myself) Even tho I can't make it on the 11th in Baton Rouge as I have two gigs on the 12th and that would be cutting it close, If you can go and check it out it (or recommend it to a friend!) should be FUN! I will be one of fifty artist with one work in ....

CultureCandy's Salon des Refusés

July 11, 2008

Shaw Center

Baton Rouge, Louisiana

The Best of the Rest
In the effort to give more artists more exposure CultureCandy has approached the Art Melt to present Salon des Refusés. This element provides the audience with a look at all the entries that did not make it into the competition. Using the image files submitted with artist entries CultureCandy will create a film showcasing all of the "refused" artwork.  In addition, the film will be supplemented with background on the artist experience.

Public Opinion
The film will be shown in the Shaw Center during the ArtMelt, July 11, 2008 at which time the public is invited to vote on their favorite work in the Salon des Refusés.  This film will also be available at Culturecandy.org thereafter.  CultureCandy and Forum35 understand that the juring process is difficult and rewarding. This project's goal is give those that entered a chance to show their work to the public in a different format and to give the public a chance to weigh in on Louisiana's talent. By no means do we wish to challenge the authority of the juror or highlight the rejection of work.

French Imports
The idea derives from the Salon des Refusés (Exhibition of Rejects) developed in France in throughout the 1800s as a reaction against the authority of the jury of the official Paris Salon. Earlier in the century art galleries had mounted small-scale, private exhibitions of works rejected by the Salon jurors. But in 1863 the clamorous event was actually sponsored by the French government. In that year, artists protested the Salon jury's rejection of more than 3,000 works. In the same spirit of celebrating everyone's contribution and everyone's opinion CutureCandy is proud to offer this positive and educational opportunity.

Let me know what you think if you can make it! Have a FUN weekend! *impish grin*

Coming Home (Poem) short update
Current mood: busy
Category: Writing and Poetry

Greetings Folks

I am awake and of course hitting the ground running! Especially as I was mentioned in the paper as being an artist at the Dixie Gin Productions event this weekend (see my calendar) as my inventory is a tad "bit" low. I had a blast in Norfolk got to met my myspace friend del jean aka glimmer became a dancing fool(scary thought there are pics out there to prove it! *impish grin*) We had fires, bus break downs, and FUN! Will type more later tonight I promise!!! *pinky swear* Meanwhile I wrote this when I got back in Louisiana  (I will post on Nav press poetry forum
http://blog.myspace.com/navworkspress ) Enjoy for there is just something about ...

Coming Home

There's something
about Louisiana,
there's something
about coming home.

The road is good
even when long.

Yet, coming home,
the humid nights,
the summer lights,
fireflies and such.
The smells and folks
all our own.

The road is good
even when long.

But, there's something
about Louisiana,
there's something
about coming home.

Sing to Me of Dreams (Poem)
Current mood: Dreamy!
Category: Dreamy! Writing and Poetry

Not sure how much I will be able to post or comment for the next week or so but leaving you with this of course inspired once again by Nav Press Works Poetry Forum

http://blog.myspace.com/navworkspress

Enjoy!

Sing to Me of Dreams

of when to hold 'em
tight within
the chest
of possible
things.

of when to fold 'em
pack 'em away
to enlighten
a foggy day
of blurry realities

of when to free 'em
so they
can take wing
and soar
another's heart.

of when to savor 'em
like fine wine
fermented
and blossomed
beyond imagination.

Sing to me of dreams!

A Battle Tail (A LOOOOOOONG POEM for Me *impish grin*)
Current mood: creative
Category: Writing and Poetry

This was inspired by Sunday's Nav Works Press Poetry forum

http://blog.myspace.com/navworkspress

One of those "times" when my poetry and storytelling blend (also I think the longest poem I have ever written!) Hope your up to a bit of a sit down for a moment. (Making a "few" Picky Uni edits, the joy of being particular *sheepish grin*)

Enjoy!

A Battle Tail

Now listen close,
you said you
wanted to hear
the tale of the peacock
and the Battle of Glass Tears.

Now this tale is true
as far as I know,
handed down,
though
way before
us humans
were around.

Ya see the peacock
was as plain as his wife,
the peahen,
nothing to strut about
for sure and certain.

Folks actually seemed
to disappear
when they saw him
coming, almost
running.
Ugly he was
and that
screaming squawk,
Oh my!

Anyhow
as I was
saying
the animals
were having
sort of a pow-wow,
sitting around
chewing the fat,
not sure how
it came about,
but talk came around
to tears and
how the crocodile
could cry them
at drop of a hat,
surely none could
do better or prettier
than that.

The peacock,
hiding in the shadows
screeched,
"Ya wanna bet!?"

The battle was on,
lines were drawn
and rules
were set.
Let the crying
commence!

The crocodile
grinning
started his tears
shedding.
Oh how folks
wanted to comfort
and cuddle him.

Then the peacock's
turn came,
all the pain
of being him
welled up inside,
the despair,
the bitterness
spilled forth,
soon
The other animals
were weeping.

Such a crying jag
has never been seen
before or since.
Imagine,
if you can,
all within
hearing distance,
from bird to worm,
crying up a storm
in fact a lake
was formed,
I kid you not!

Just before
they could
take no more,
IT happened,
the poor peacock's
heart shattered
into millions
of bits of glass
streaming from his eyes
sadness crystallized
prisms of tears
forming rainbows
wide and magical
glowing in the
clearing.
The likes of which
has never been seen
again.

The peacock in his
dying won the bet.

Now his offspring
proudly flaunt
his symbol,
their rainbow tails
with an eye atop
the badge of their
forefather,
his gift
grievingly gained,
as the winner of
the Battle of Glass Tears.

That's how the peacock
got his tail
doubt it not!

My Mind (POEM)
Current mood: content
Category: Writing and Poetry

Greetings Folks,

I am getting ready to go to the gathering this afternoon and just enjoy being me in all my eccentricities and joys and do what I do! So to give you a "bit" of me *impish grin* thought I would post this poem that the Nav Press Poetry Forum inspired the other week Enjoy!

I hope you are having a FUN Sunday!

My Mind

So you like my attitude
and take on life?
Be glad you cannot
behold
my mind in its' entirety.

(I'm glad I can't)

A disturbing
place to be
bits and pieces
of me
scattered about
whole and unwhole.
You do not want to wake
the totality of it.

(I certainly let it sleep)

Not only that
but the stories
oh God!
The stories!

(I can't contain them!)

I am a magnet for 'em
always have been.
You meet me,
though I run off
at the mouth,
something
within
ME
compels
YOU
tell the stories
and deepest secrets
of your soul
dark and light.

(I can't turn it off,
Doubt YOU want me to)

So in the black holes
of my Swiss cheese
memory are
bit and pieces of
your stories
and mine
intertwined,
separate

(I can't unmix 'em)

See over there?
oh no
not THAT place!
THERE the hang
nail bit of a story
just a sliver
I will never know
more
but in my
imaginations'
blender
it will
become
something else

(Not sure I want to know what just yet!)

Shaken or
stirred
Be glad you cannot
behold
my mind in its' entirety.

(I'm glad I can't)
