open me first.............

sleep with the angels

an original poem by Maxwell Edison
copyright 2006 Maxwell Edison

i dreamed i crossed the ocean

in a ship with many sails,

i shared the seas with pirates,

with mermaids, and with whales,

i've traveled to enchanted lands,

seen palaces and kings,

i've danced in great majestic halls

with princesses and queens,

i've blended magic potions

and conjured magic spells,

and witnessed many miracles

that flowed from wishing wells,

i've slain fire-breathing dragons

who flew upon great wings,

i fell in love beneath the stars

and heard the angels sing,

i've soared up high with eagles,

found treasurers mine to keep,

i wonder where i'll find myself

when i next fall asleep...

poetry and prose........

What if...

an original poem by Maxwell Edison
copyright 2006 Maxwell Edison

if candlelight was magical
and elves could steer great ships,

if cherubs took sabbaticals
and fairies skinny dipped,

if butterflies could sing on key
and angels walked the earth,

if money really grew on trees
and rainbows had no worth,

if Santa Claus was just a myth
and sunshine wasn't real,

if jelly fish could learn to dance
and boulders learn to feel,

if the world turned up-side down
and water flowed uphill,

my love for you would never change,
for i would love you still...

band-aids...

an original poem by Maxwell Edison
copyright 2006 Maxwell Edison

i started on a journey
when i was very small

probably about the time
that i began to crawl

it wasn't always easy
it wasn't always fun

and yes i had to learn to walk
before i learned to run

and sometimes i would fall down
and maybe skin my knee

but there was always someone there
was willing to help me

when i wasn't looking
i might walk into a wall

i started learning early on
there's many ways to fall

still no one ever laughed at me
and no one ever yelled

the times that i would stumble
or the many times i fell

now that i've gotten taller
i'm not so very small

i'd like to say i'm here for you
if ever you should ever fall...

burglars...

an original poem by Maxwell Edison
copyright 2006 Maxwell Edison

nothing lasts forever,
there is no perfect crime,
even the great pyramids
eroded over time

everything is changing,
nothing stays the same,
you never can be serious
if love is just a game

and you can never finish,
that which you did not start,
but if there is no perfect crime
then how'd you steal my heart?

trust me...

an original poem by Maxwell Edison
copyright 2006 Maxwell Edison

i love to see you happy,
i hate to see you sad,
people say some stupid things
sometimes when they get mad.

so listen very carefully
for what i say is true,
i'll never love another
the way that i loved you...

hope...

an original poem by Maxwell Edison
copyright 2006 Maxwell Edison

when everything is backwards,
your world is up-side down,
you gave up even looking,
for what you never found,
when thoughts about tomorrow,
are ripping out your heart,
you end at the beginning,
and finish at the start.
when nothing really matters,
you've given up the fight,
you can't climb up the ladder,
or there is no hope in sight,
when the answer to your questions,
is falling on your sword

have dinner with an Angel,
and breakfast with the Lord...

make a wish...

an original poem by Maxwell Edison
copyright 2006 Maxwell Edison

if i had a single wish,
(and knew it would come true),
i've thought about this many times,
(and wondered what i'd do)

i could ask for 'riches',
(or 'health' or 'fame', i knew),
'be careful what you wish for',
(i'm certain this is true).

i've had my share of miracles,
(the wonders i've been through),
i think that i'll just skip a turn,
(and give my wish to you)...

the end...

camelot...

an original poem by Maxwell Edison
copyright 2006 Maxwell Edison

it's night-time now in camelot
and everywhere in town,
the rain is falling on the trees
and bends the branches down.

the crescent moon behind the clouds
smiles on the coming day,
and any troubles on the ground
are gently washed away.

as new born rays of better days
stretch outward from the sun,
in the realm of love is found
a new day has begun.

in every house on every hill
in every village square,
the new day brings just happy things,
there's magic in the air.

mornings bring fresh flowers,
new birds learn to fly,
lovers sing in harmony
painting rainbows in the sky.

the princess in her castle,
lately smiles alot,
her prince awoke her from a dream,
today in camelot.

a better place...

an original poem by Maxwell Edison
copyright 2006 Maxwell Edison

i dreamed that i was standing
just outside heaven's door
i had no idea how i got there
or what i was there for

then i looked around and saw
its just as i was told
there were angels everywhere
the streets were lined with gold

everyone was smiling
no one had a care
people looked so happy
and all the Saints were there

over in the corner
i saw my mom and dad
sitting on the front porch swing
just like they always had

then i couldn't help it
i just began to cry
an angel walked right up to me
and softly asked me why

i said i missed my parents
and some of my best friends
and could i come inside awhile
and talk to them again

the angel whispered in my ear
as tears ran down my face
'it's time for you to wake up now
you've seen a better place'.

second thoughts...

an original poem by Maxwell Edison
copyright 2006 Maxwell Edison

on my journey though this life

i will have many choices,

so i should listen carefully

to what my conscience voices,

i can't live my life again

or fix what i have broken,

or change a deed once it is done

or words that i have spoken,

it matters not my motives

or what i had intended,

what i do upon the earth

can never be rescinded,

i guess what i am saying is

'be careful what you do',

the way you'll be remembered

is entirely up to you...

miracles...
an original poem by Maxwell Edison

you fill me with a passion,

that takes my breath away,

they haven't made the words up yet,

for what i'm trying to say,

it's like there is this power,

every time we touch,

there is no use denying,

this miracle of 'us',

so i must just surrender,

all i ever knew,

i always will remember,

the miracle of 'you'

knock-knock...
an original poem by Maxwell Edison

i
found out i was sick,
that i was going to die,
so i wrote God a letter,
just to ask him why,

the mailman brought my letter back,
i guess God was not home,
i didn't know God took time off,
so now i felt alone,

and so i went out looking,
God had to be somewhere,
i went to lots of churches,
but couldn't find him there,

i asked a lot of people,
do you know where God's at?
though most of them were friendly,
they had no time for that,

i was getting really tired,
and so i went to bed,
and then i dreamed an angels voice,
was singing in my head,

and then the angel showed me,
how peaceful it would be,
an then i finally understood,
God lives inside of me...

roses are redder...
an original poem by Maxwell Edison
copyright 2006 by Maxwell Edison

sitting on a shelf somewhere, in pages old and torn
characters make history in clothes they've never worn,
and as the dust is scattered, and gathers on the floor,
another child of circumstance has wandered through the door,
the ink unfolds a story as it's dry's upon the page,
the actor dreams of glory as he walks out on the stage
anonymous among the crowd and lonely in their seat
a person who was very proud is looking at their feet,
even when it's make-believe the pain can be so real,
and now that it's about to end they're learning how to feel
in legends, lore, and fairy tales, in poetry and prose
don't ever underestimate the power of a rose.

jennifer...
an original poem by Maxwell Edison

an end of life i can't explain
it's sad, the way i feel
for i will always feel the pain
a heart that will not heal

the promise that you never kept
still echo's in my head
you slipped out even as i slept
yet never left your bed

it wasn't i that made you cry
that sad and lonely song
it wasn't like i never tried
to fix all that went wrong

now that your pain has passed away
and lies still in the grave
and though i try i can't forget
the girl i could not save...

wings...
by Maxwell Edison
http://myspace.com/bangbangmaxwell
copyright 2006 Maxwell Edison

i'm really not an angel

i haven't any wings

i've never worn a halo

i really shouldn't sing

i can't do any miracles

or make your dreams come true

i can't make me invisible

so you can see right through

i really like good music

but i can't play the harp

and even though it might be fun

i don't glow in the dark

i'm really nothing special

but this i know is true

it always feels like heaven

whenever i'm with you...

Diamonds and pearls

an original poem by Maxwell Edison

copyright 2007

if you were a diamond
and i were just a pearl
and we lived in a jewelry box
belonging to some girl
and every where around us
was silver, gold and gems
would you even notice me
or want me for a friend?
for you are such a precious thing
and i'm stuck on a string
and although i do like my friends
i'd still give anything
to get loose from this stupid string
and be set next to you
forever we could see the world
together, me and you
pearls are bits of wisdom
diamonds precious stones
how beautiful our lives could be
we'd make this box our home
but you are not a diamond
and i am not a pearl
i am just a simple guy
and you are my whole world...

ANGEL WITH NO WINGS

an original poem by Maxwell Edison
copyright 2007 Maxwell Edison

I walked outside into the night
and saw the strangest thing
sitting high up in a tree
an angel with no wings

It's always nice to be polite
(it's never nice to stare)
so i asked her very nonchalant
'How did you get up there'?

Perhaps the angel hadn't heard
she never looked at me
so i spoke up a little bit
'Who put you in that tree'?

The angel turned to me and smiled
it took my breath away
and to this day i can't forget
the words I heard her say

'It isn't wings that make us fly
or sleep that makes us dream...
It's the love that's in our hearts
that let's us do these things'...

-maxwell edison

sweetness

the sweetness of love
the voice you can't hear
the beauty of faith
the absence of fear
the long lonely nights
darken than coal
reflections of love
from deep in the soul
the power of passion
the trembling touch
the whispers that echo
'i need you so much'
with kisses so soft
they tear you apart
tears are like raindrops
that come from the heart.

smoke and mirrors.....

COULD YOU REPEAT THAT?

an original poem by Maxwell Edison
copyright 2006 Maxwell Edison

if you were here and with me now
i'd look at you and say
'have i told you that i love you
even more than yesterday'?
and i'd kiss you very gently
and i'd brush away your hair
and i'd put my arms around you
and we'd cuddle in the chair
and i'd hold you very close to me
and in the candlelight
i would love you, and i'd love you
till the dawn replaced the night
and when it became morning
i would look at you and say
'have i told you that i love you
even more than yesterday'?

i can't help it

an original poem by Maxwell Edison
copyright 2006 Maxwell Edison

i cannot take the credit
for the sun rising today
or the rain that feeds the flowers
where the little people play
i did not make the stars
that steer the angels where they fly
or the moon that lights the heavens
that all love is guided by
i can't affect the oceans
or the tides that rule the seas
or the place where honey's planted
by the busy bumble-bees
i can't control the future
or turn old things into new
and i can't help that i love you
i just love you 'cause you're you...

what you do to me...

an original poem by Maxwell Edison
copyright 2006 Maxwell Edison

If there is a heaven
     (and I'm sure there is)
being in love is how it must feel

to wake up every morning next to the only person who defines the meaning of the word 'complete'

with this incredible passion just to breathe the same air

to touch, to smell, to taste, the sweetness of the most beautiful person that God has ever created

to share every second of every minute of every hour of every day knowing, that as long as you're together, nothing else will ever matter

trusting that whatever life throws at you nothing in the world can ever tear you apart

when you go to bed at night you know, without doubt, that everything you've ever wanted

     everything you've ever needed

everything you've ever hoped for or ever dreamed about

you are holding right there in your arms

     close to you

     keeping you warm

making you glad just to be alive

you can't help but to hold them close and silently gaze upon them in wonder

be awed by the miracle of the love that you share

it touches you in a such a way that you want to reach over and  kiss their face

     gently stroke their hair

as the sleep begins to gently wash away everything  that will soon become yesterday, this smile comes into your life

you suddenly understand why loving them makes you so happy

all the promises of all the pleasures still to come dance across the visions of your future

     you become so completely content

     totally satisfied

you know that you have freely given to them all the keys to your soul

all the secrets of your heart

total and absolute power over all your dreams for not only this night, but forever and ever and ever

they are the only person on earth that you have ever truly loved

the only person on the planet that has ever really mattered

the only person in your life that you have ever truly cherished

     and you feel safe

     and you can sleep

     and dream

     together...
