Bastard Jazz is proud to bring you yet another installment of our long running Dubwise Sessions party, held in that one-of-a-kind speakeasy with the heavy heavy monster sound that is Studio BPM.
The coastal dub vibes unite this coming Saturday as San Diego's Dub Traffik Control meets Brooklyn's Zeb for a heavy dose of bass with a killer lineup in the heart of the Brooklyn dub underground.
**
Dub Traffik Control have been making Pacific Waves on the left for a minute now, led by Re:Up Magazine's Eddie Turbo and partner in crime Carlito Headset, with Habitat Soundsystem's Prince Zohar on the mic. Combining a some seriously skilled chops on the retro-video vibe and a penchant for chopping up dub, dancehall, latin, and dubstep vibes in a way that's reminiscent of Steinski / DJ Food / Coldcut - these gentlemen are really on some other shit. Their first 12", released on Bastard Jazz's "BSTRD Boots" imprint flew off shelves worldwide, going into re-press on the first week.
**
Zeb aka the Spy From Cairo has been a fixture in the NYC scene for more than a minute - as a founding member of NYC's Organic Grooves, and countless 12"s and full lengths on labels like Wonderwheel, Six Degrees, Concent, Irma, Giant Step + more. His sound is ever changing, but heavily rooted in dub music with more than a hefty dose of Middle Eastern, Gypsy, Turkish, and electronic vibes.
***
Turntable's on the Hudson co-founder and Wonderwheel Recordings honcho Nickodemus joins Bastard Jazz's DJ DRM on the turntables for with a stack of 45s hitting all points + styles on that giant tree that's called dub music.
Dubwise Session resident MC Treasure Don will be on the mic as usual, and ace drummer and Afrokinetic resident percussionist Amon will be sitting in all night with the bands.
*SPECIAL CLOSING SET BY OUR FRIEND MEXICAN DUBWISER FROM LA - BRINGING EVEN MORE GLOBAL VIBES WITH SOME DUB-COME-CUMBIA STYLES!!!* Definitely one for the heads!

Bastard Jazz Recordings presents our first digital-only release from long-time artist Jugoe. Comprised of 6 tracks, the "Tracks That Missed The Boat v. 1" EP is pretty much exactly what the title says – six joints that should have, but never did, make it to vinyl. The tracks contained herein are some of Jugoe's most hard-hitting dancefloor killers, and we're excited to be able to release them through the digital medium.
Kicking things off is "BitterSweet" – a track that was made specifically for Jugoe's now-legendary live performances at San Fran's longrunning Dubmission party. Starting off with a delayed out Barrington Levy sample and a grimey hip-hop break, the track works itself up into a noisy dancehall frenzy with a gritty lead synth.
Next up is "Ziggy", with a hard-hitting minimal 95BPM breakbeat, heavy sub-bassline and dark Turkish style horns. "Shotz Hotz & Hoods" is the toughest of mid-tempo disco killers with chopped up slap bass, filtered guitar, vocal snippets and sweeping gutter synth bass.
"Tique Toque", is a 105 BPM late night kind of joint with an arpeggiated analogue synth bassline and some seriously eerie Indian sitar vibes going on that flips onto itself into punchy dark dancehall. "Bootoo", featuring syncopated synths, a dubbed out Hortense Ellis Vocal and a chugging bass is a secret weapon that's found it's way into the hands of DJs world-wide over the last few years. Lastly, "Bad Man Like Good Tings" rounds off the EP on a ruff'n'rugged dub-house tip with a bit of materialistic rudeboy spoken word before launching into a balls-out percussion heavy breakbeat that's sure to set the dancefloor on fiyah!
Jahtari Riddim Force - Farmer in The Sky / Depth Charge 7" is also available digitally through turntablelab --- Click HERE!

Sat - June 21 ---
Dubwise Sessions returns to that intimate speakeasy that is Studio BPM for our first summer session with another toke from above!
Joining us this Saturday night will be Studio One's Judah Eskender Tafari and his band -- -a remarkable talent with a one of a kind voice who released six classic 7"s on Studio One --- 'Jah Light', 'Rastafari Tell You', 'Always Trying', 'Conquer Me', 'Danger In Your Eyes' and 'Just Another Day' a 12", from 1978 till 1980 -- and has remained active but still remains critically overlooked.
We had Judah play at Dubwise back in May of '06 and it was a killer night - we're excited to have him back.
Captain Planet + DJ DRM will be ..ion duties -- Treasure Don will be on the mic.
Bastard Jazz Update June ’06 - new 7", BSTRD Boots + upcoming jams + much more...
Current mood: productive
Hello Everyone,
Summer has started to come around here in NYC - the days are longer, the beers are colder, everything is taking a little bit longer to accomplish and the dubby vibes are soundin' real healthy right about now..
::::
In that spirit, we're proud to announce our brand new release from Germany's "Jahtari Riddim Force" that comes in the form of a tasty little 7" that's sure to set all your summertime BBQ's alight.
Produced by Disrupt (who's album "Foundation Bit" on the UK's Werk label took the global dub scene by a storm last year) and Rootah (who has a killer 10" out right now on Mungo's Hi-Fi's Scotch Bonnet imprint) - this little piece is chock full of the 8-bit Dub Sound these two have been pushing on their own Jahtari digital imprint.
On The A-Side, "Farmer In The Sky" comes along with a laid back but tricky bass pattern, hypnotically driven offbeats, a great organ line by these dub navigators, and generally lots of surprises up the sleeve of your virtual space suit. All that while giving a nod to Robert A. Heinlein's classic SciFi-novel of the same title.
And on the B, "Depth Charge" lifts off full force with deep echo madness, wide explosions in 3D, basslines coming straight from a Black Hole and crunchy 8bit-Gamma-rays from beyond the dibbi dibbi rings of Saturn!
Available in fine record shops in the US, UK, Australia and EU this week - in Japan next week. ::::::
Also - for those of you in New York City, please join DJ's Monk-One, Captain Planet, and DJ DRM @ South Williamsburg's Tropical Oasis bar Bembe This Thursday (06/05) for a very special release party for our new BSTRD Boots record - an Erykah Badu centered 12" release with re-works from the Greenwood Rhythm Coalition (Monk One + E's E) and Captain Planet himself.
The record officially hits stores next week, but we'll have copies on hand to giveaway that night.
Bembe is @ 81 s. 6th St at Berry in Williamsburg. 10PM-4AM - FREE!
(info on the 12")
The Greenwood Rhythm Coalition (aka Brooklyn vets Monk-One and E's E) flip the immaculate "Honey" into a bouncy hip-hop infused uptempo reggae joint heading into some serious extended disco dub mix territory.
On the B-Side, Captain Planet (the man behind the superhyped internet blog "Captain's Crate" and 2006's Gumbo Funk EP) puts an early 80's electrofunk vibe on "Honey" with some big bassy synth lines and talkbox abounding. Wrapping things up on the EP heads backwards in time, taking Erykah's "Cleva" down to Rio for some footstomping samba funk action!
OUT Next week on a limited edition BSTRD Boots 12" ! ::::::::::

DJ DRM @ ESL Friday 4/4 + more shows + new tunes!!
Hey Everyone!
Just a quick blast here -- for all DC friends + family, I’ll be heading down tomorrow for another night at the 18th St Lounge - always a fun time! I’ll be joined by my man Moose from DC’s TrueGrooves crew (the folks that put out all them KidGusto wax) - so it’s sure to be a party. I’m fresh (well, not really so fresh...stumbling kinda slow these days) off a 4 week stint in Europe and armed to the teeth with lots of new and new-to-me records procured all over the Subcontinent, so I’m pretty stoked to work em at ESL!
--- Also, mark your calendars down -- Saturday, April 19th is the next Dubwise Sessions, and is going to be a big ’un featuring the one SAMMY DREAD backed up by the Jammyland Allstars....if you’ve been coming to Dubwise for a while you know how special it is to see talent of this calibur and stature in the intimacy that is Studio BPM - we’re damn excited! :)
----
ALSO --- we’ve got some new boots and tunes out right about new that are available for your perusal...
the next BSTRD Boots 7" artist series installment is from London’s Drums of Death flipping two Roots Manuva tracks in a really exquisite manner ---
" The Bstrd Boots crew get hold of Roots Manuva’s evergreen ’Witness’ on this bass-heavy re-rub. Sounds so good that it might as well be an official remix. On the B ’Join The Dots’ featuring Chali 2na gets the re-rub treatment. Again, bass-heavy business is the order of the day. Not quite hip hop, not quite reggae, not quite leftfield but something in the middle and totally new. Hot." -Phonica / London
--- Be on the lookout in the coming weeks for a Jahtari Riddim Force 7" on Bastard Jazz and a killer Dub Traffik Control 12" on BSTRD Boots - boom tunes!
--- That’s all for now -- more upcoming gigs listed below --- drop us a line and say hi :)
Thanks for reading,
Aaron / DJ DRM + the whole Bastard Jazz crew

DUBWISE SESSIONS Keeps Rolling into 2008!! Saturday, Feb 9th....
Bastard Jazz Presents
Dubwise Sessions 16
Roots * Rocksteady * Rub A Dub * Reggae
In that intimate Japanese speakeasy loft that is Studio BPM!
featuring live + on-stage: NOBLE SOCIETY (Brooklyn)
With their genre-bending electronic-tinged singles "She told me" and "The Swarm" currently rocking international airwaves (BBC Radio, WKCR), Noble Society is a band ready to brand themselves as the evolution of dancehall. Noble's futuristic reggae sound, with a world-view, incorporates both their quintessential reggae roots and their need to represent Brooklyn's vibrant cultural milieu.
Creating a sound that is both world and urban, with a vibrant live show to match, Noble members Fuego, MC Delie and Jahdan craft a sound that is both hip hop and reggae, both conscious and beat-driven. With the release of their second full-length album, Take Charge, Noble is one of the most promising reggae bands on the rise. Their sweet melodies and funky "riddims" take listeners on a journey to a place where great music and greater understanding take charge.
"Noble Society harkens back to a time when the term 'hip hop meets dancehall' meant more than slapping Sean Paul on a remix." --The Village Voice
"To catch a Noble Society show is to be transported to a place teeming with pure adrenaline." TRACE Magazine
w/ selectors DRM + Gravy.

02.01.08 - Canada This Weekend /// Dubwise 16 the next!!
Current mood: nostalgic
Greetings Familia-
Just got back to NYC late last night from a too short music-making and cold-escaping 6 night trip to Puerto Rico with Jugoe and Paul Digs -- lots of sunshine, platanos, and dope musica happening! Look for a still unnamed 12" from the collaboration of the three of us along with a number of talented Puerto Rican musicians to be dropping on Bastard Jazz in the coming months -- some serious latin dancefloor heat!! Big thanks to Pablo and Millo for making things happen down there, and Jorge, Javiar, and our man on the Tres whose name is escaping me for providing the azúcar for our cafe! :)
Truly experiencing the dichotomy of the world, I'll be heading to the nether regions of North East Canada tomorrow morning for a quick 3 day tour with my old friend Dana D - hope to see all of our Canadian bredren out! :)
ALSO, mark down your calendars ---- Dubwise Sessions 16 happens next Saturday, the 9th, at that smokey speakeasy loft with the heavy monster sound that is Studio BPM - joining us on stage will be Brooklyn's own Noble Society performing their own true Flatbush Ave style reggae.
All gig info below plus more upcoming info --- thanks for reading!!
