A year of surprising and disappointing movies!
Current mood: optimistic
Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities

In a year of sequels and triquels (and even a fourquel), the movies that really moved me this year are the ones I saw with few expectations.

First off, the films I was super psyched about are the ones that really let me down.  Some more so than others.
Spider-Man 3 was lost in plot hell.  The movie couldn't seem to find a focus.  The storytelling magic of Spider-Man 2 was long gone, sadly.  Spider-Man 2 is still tied with Batman Begins as the best Comic Book inspired movie ever.  This third film wasn't in the same league, the same ballpark or the same parking lot as the one before it.
Shrek the Third I assumed would be good fun comedy.  I was wrong.  I only laughed once during the third, unnecessary and boring, Shrek.  This film just regergitated its predecessors over and over again.  The magic of the first film has definately fallen flat on its ass.
Still haven't seen Pirates 3, and don't really want to after the watch clinging tightly around my wrist became the center of attention during Pirates 2.
Ocean's Thirteen was fun.  Extremely over the top, but very lackluster in comparison the the first installment.
Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer was better than the first film.  That's about it.  This doesn't make it a good movie by any means.  I will be the first to raise my hand if Jessica Alba starts offering free "make out sessions with heavy petting," but I would rather go to the ballet than watch the majority of her movies.  Of course Sin City does not fall into that category!
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.  As much as I wanted to love it, I just couldn't because of the direction they decided to take with the movie.  That direction being almost nothing like the book.  I think they really tried to leave out the good story.  They clearly left out all the good moments that lead into the last two stories.  If I had never read the book, I probably would have loved it.  Oh well!

Now for the good stuff!  Most of these movies were ones that I either didn't even know about, or had indifferent feelings about, only to be pleasantly entertained!
Knocked Up knocked me on my ass with its delightful mix of disgusting humor, sharp wit, ungodly one liners, sweet story and heartwarming performances.
Live Free or Die Hard was the one movie I thought for sure would blow, but instead blew me away.  I thought that the fourth installment of John McClane's epic life would be weak and pointless.  Instead it turned out to be a movie that really makes you love American Cinema.  A movie that goes to show, in an obviously impossible fashion, what someone can accomplish through shear force of will!
Transformers was a movie that I wanted to be amazing, but the involvement of Michael Bay had me scared.  He is a master of huge F/X movies, but none ever have much else going for them.  Pearl Harbor is the biggest piece of trash storytelling wise.
300 was the most "Badass" movie I saw this year.  That was a movie that had me scratching my head when hit first the buzz bin.  When it exploded on the scene, Zack Snyder proved he is had a vision and his vision was Fucking Awesome!!!
Superbad was Super Awesome.  After seeing Seth Rogen in The 40 Year Old Virgin, Knocked Up, and now Superbad (which he also co-wrote when he was 13) just goes to show that he is a force to be reckoned with in the world of Comedy.  The dude is only 25 and is already an established badass in the movie industry.

Now I have to talk about Grindhouse.  Grindhouse is one of the only movies that I knew was gonna be a great movie-going experience. Boy was I right!  Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez truly are the most original, entertaining and imaginative fanboys working in mainstream Cinema.  Granted they love to pay homage to the films, TV shows and actors they both grew up with, yet they still find a way to incorporate those aspects while telling fresh new stories.  This Double Feature flick featuring Planet Terror, written and directed by Rodriguez, and Death Proof, written and directed by Tarantino, is unlike anything I have ever experienced in a movie theatre before.  I'm only 25, so maybe if I had been around during the old days of Grindhouse flicks I might not be able to say how new a fresh this film was.  Both movies were scary, funny, thrilling, and so much fun.  Rodriguez had his campy B-movie special effects and over the top action sequences mixed with some pretty cool ways for disposing of the Undead.  Tarantino made a flick that starts with your cliche horror movie girls and slowly builds up to a movie about one mans horrific obsession with brutally murdering beautiful girls.  When Stuntman Mike, played masterfully by Kurt Russell, turns to Pam, played by a blonde Rose McGowan, in the belly of his automotive slaughterer and says, "Because it was a fifty fifty shot on whether you'd be going left or right. You see we're both going left. You could have just as easily been going left, too. And if that was the case... It would have been a while before you started getting scared. But since you're going the other way, I'm afraid you're gonna have to start getting scared... immediately!"  It might sound cheesy when you read it on the computer screne, but let me assure you the outcome is far from silly!  Also let me say that the fake trailers placed before and between the two films are priceless.  'Machete' by Rodriguez, 'Werewolf Women of the SS' by Rob Zombie, 'Don't' by Edgar Wright, and 'Thanksgiving' by Eli Roth are all priceless.  Seeing Nicolas Cage as Fu Manchu in Werewolf Women is gold!  I hope the Grindhouse keep on coming.

It appears that the good movies are still being tossed out left and right this fall.  I just can't wait to see what's on the way.!

A Tragedy can make you appreciate life.
Current mood: melancholy
Category: Life

So today was the same as any other day.  I came to work and bickered with Vicki, the other front desk associate.  Another day at the office.

After lunch was when things got serious.  Kellie, the owner of the Salon, came in a told us that her daughter, Maren, had just received a text that one of her high school friends was found burnt to death in Dallas.  The natural first reaction is to apologize to them for their loss. But all the sorrys in the world won'ttake the hurt away.

I can't help but sit here and be thankful for all the people in my life.

Maren is 17 years old.  She has experienced loss many times over already in her seventeen years of life.  Thinking about that kind of pain sends a sigh of relief through my body.  I haven't, thankfully, experienced much loss in my life.  Both my grandfathers have passed away, but I wasn't close to either of them.  It was sad that they passed but it really didn't have a lasting affect on me.  When my mom's friends Sheron and Eileen passed away, I was very sad, but once again I never really felt that loss deep down in my soul.  I used to think that maybe there was something wrong with me since I didn't cry when these people moved on to a better place.

Now that I am older I realize that there is nothing wrong with me.  I just happen to be very fortunate that the most important people in my life are still here.  My mother, father and step-mother.  Those three are the ones that are responsible for me being the person I am now.  Then there are the friends that have become family.  I just want everyone in my life to know how much their love means to me.  This is my way of saying thank you.  This is also my way of thanking God for giving me as much time with all of you as possible.

I hope to have many more blissful and retarded years with all of you.

Thank you for letting me be apart of your life and for allowing me to share my life with you as well.

For now my heart goes out to Maren and the friends and family of the girl whose life may now be over, but will never be forgotten.

God Bless

Matt

One of those moments
Current mood: crushed

You know those moments that really just make your heart drop.  Those moments that make your entire world seem surreal.  I just had one of those moments.

I usually like to think of myself as pretty damn optimistic.  Maybe Laura is right.  Myabe there is no point in being optimistic when everything is destined to suck.  She says that when things are going good they will always go to shit.  Well She is right about that.

I feel naucious.  I will write more about why later.

Welcome to my thoughts.

Still Can't Resist that Ducey Lovin?
Current mood: accomplished

Last year I posted this blog about the Ducey Lovin.  We had a huge repsonse last year.  So we decided, once again, to make this offer available to the public.

This is a true Story....

When I was young my father passed on some very valuable and enlightening information to me.  I have used this information in my everyday life since then.  He told me, "Son, women can't resist the Ducey lovin'!"  I asked him, "Why?"  His reponse was to never ask why.  I was just to use this information for the good of mankind.  He told me this information can't be taught, I would just have to experience for myself.  So for years I tried to my best to understand and harness my own Ducey Lovin.  After many years I finally began to understand my true calling.  I just really hope I have made him proud.

If you or someone you know has had the pleasure of experiencing the Ducey lovin, please feel free to leave us your comments and let us know how it effected your life.  Good or bad.  We are here for the people.  There is no such thing as bad criticism.

Also, if you would like to learn more about the Ducey Lovin, please feel free to e-mail me at your earliest convienence.  Thank you.

Matthew David Ducey I

P.S. If someone reads this and actually takes this seriously, that person should give me five dollars and let me punch them in the face.  :-)

Let's make a difference in other people's lives.
Current mood: hopeful

So I was talking to my friend Damla and she was looking for kids to buy gifts for this year. Children who probably won't have a Christmas if people don't offer to help. We both searched around and she found Buckner Baptist Benevolence. I used to work for this organization years ago at their summer camp. This is a wonderful organization that does alot for families and children. If you would like to help out and make it possible for some children to have a Christmas this year then check out their website at Bucknerchildren.org or you can look at the list Damla found here

http://www.bucknerchildren.org/dallas/volunteer-opp/index.asp

Even the smallest donation can make a difference.

I hope you all had a wonderful thanksgiving and I hope you all have an awesome Christmas.

Lots of Hugs,
Ducey

Come to Ozzie Rabbit Lodge! It's Sexy!
Current mood: naughty
Category: Parties and Nightlife

Last night was the official opening of the Ozzie Rabbit Lodge.

It was getting obscene last night because of all the sexiness every where.

It's a new bar owned by the same fine folks who own and operate, a place very near and dear to me heart, Cave's Lounge (Voted Best Lounge Bar by the Fort Worth Weekly for 2006.)

Oh and Ozzie Rabbit Lodge is extra special because I work there.  I think it has the potential to be one of those new hidden treasures of Division/Lancaster.

I also had my bestest friend Terra, Karla, Danny Allegra, Joe, Paul and many more to help kick off the evening!

Here are just a few pictures to help you understand how sexy it was.  I couldn't put up anymore or else you might be overwhelmed by the Sexiness.  Now look comment and go! Sexy!

Ozzie005.jpg

Sexiness came out of the wood work for Ozzie Rabbit.  And they were both hanging out with me :-).

Ozzie006.jpg

That is the look most people have when they get the chance to take a picture with me.

Ozzie008.jpg

Yeah we definately have the Manliest men working here.

Youaresexy.jpg

Don't be afraid of that look.  It's look of desire.  I desire you to come to Ozzie Rabbit and try us out!

Hope to see you all there.

You are Sexy!
