Wanting to write blogs and top lists.
Category: Blogging

The word "blog" is a great one. i don't know why, but it reminds me of this movie from the 50's about a creature from outer space that lands on earth, and is like a ball of jelly and eats people. i can't make the connection seem to make sense though.
anyways, the other day i was listening to music, which is something i never have done before. yeah. so i was wanting to write a list of the best records, MY list of best San Diego records. Not a top 5 or 10, just whatever is the best. Excluding my own of course. Can't fill the top spots with your own! ok. any-anyways, that list kept growing and growing, so i can only speak/write on a few of them.

NUMBER ONE: i said there was no top 5 or whatever, but this one will have to win every time. Shut up.
NO KNIFE- FIRE IN THE CITY OF AUTOMATONS.

I listened to it for the 3.6 millionth time, very loud on my very loud stereo equipment, and it still amazes me each time. good job, Mitch and Ryan and the two other guys who performed very well on that record. BONUS!!! I saw them live with Appleseed Cast and Cursive in Los Angeles, CA (small town vibe, you know how it is) and they brought out a small lady who sang on the record for "under the moon" and i literally almost fainted when I heard it. Totally dudical. So, they win.

Number Two: All others who are not them.

Included on this list/very honorable mentions:

MORAL ISSUE- MILK

Classic. They really helped me get into music. I owe them all some kind of favor. Seriously, I can't say enough good things about these guys. I probably would still be starting my music career this week if it weren't for them. Also, they are all my best friends now, so I feel that makes me like their music more. It would be cool if they could re-record this in like a major studio or something, but that also kinda takes away the rawness of the rock, right?
Check out:MORAL ISSUE

SKRATCHLINE - DAY IN THE SUN

A few guys who came from North County hardcore and post-hardcore bands came together and rocked this one. Also they loved Quicksand. Good songs though!

NOISE RATCHET- TIL WE HAVE FACES

They found their sound and made this one great. Then, I don't know what happened. The Life?

UNWRITTEN LAW - BLUE ROOM

They have so many good ones, but this put Poway on the music map. Moshing/Soma/A-shirts/Denny's, you know?

FLUF- MANGRAVY

You have to love O.

CARTER PEACE MISSION- DISCO STU LIKES DISCO MUSIC

It is just Good San Diego Punk.

LOGOS- WHEN LIFE SEEMS SENSELESS
no image for ya.
Delicious Chicano Punk from lots of cousins.

P.O.D. - SATELLITE

Would you not say this one really did it for them?

NO INNOCENT VICTIM- FLESH AND BLOOD

This came out at the perfect time for our city. So good.

GREYBOY ALLSTARS- TOWN CALLED EARTH

Too much talent for one group. It's not fair!

UNDERMINDED- HAIL UNAMERICAN

Keepin' it real, and keepin' people aware.

ROCKET FROM THE CRYPT - LiVE FROM CAMP X-RAY

They have a massive catalog of greatness, but this one rocks through and through. Play it loud.

PIVIT- MILLENIUM

Makes you want to do some kind of extreme sport right when it starts.

DELTA SPIRIT- ODE TO SUNSHINE

Oh, those crazy beach kids. I call it Passionate Americana. Their release show at The Casbah was superb.

REEVE OLIVER- REEVE OLIVER

Sean, you are a genius. Wait, no. Wait, yes. Well, I mean your song writing has become very keen. Do that again.

SKYDIVER - JUST ANOTHER MACHINE ep
no image, sucka.
Please go find this record, or ask me if you can borrow it. Jayce showed it to me, and i loved it.

of course, you may ask, hey what about Stone Temple Pilots, and Eddie Vedder? Well, they are not from San Diego. One or two members of STP may have resided here for a minute, and Eddie visits Encinitas frequently, but hey, NO.
Well there is a small list of some good/my favorite San Diego albums. Not complete, just some that i looked at real quick on my shelf. There are tons more, and i'm proud to be from this amazing musical mecca. Screw all other cities' scenes.

ON ANOTHER NOTE------- I am starting to write some children's stories. I am asking some of my artist friends to do the artist thing for me. If interested, let me know. THANKS FOR EVERYTHING!

It was an amazing concert.
Category: Parties and Nightlife

It was Free. It was not too loud, not to quiet. It was great weather. It was a spiritual gathering. It was the most amazing concert I have ever seen or heard. I have seen and heard a lot of concerts.

Last night, Southern Comfort sponsored and event called SoCo Music Experience right downtown in the Padres Stadium parking lot. I took the trolley down with Lisa (already off to a good start) and we made it there just in time to see my neighbor's band "perform" (scarlet symphony). Lisa and I looked at each other with uncomfortable faces on. Not only was it a SoCo music experience, but they could also call it the SoCo horrible bland and regretful Mexican food experience. I wish the flavor of their "carne asada" could escape my being, but it was so bad that I can't forget it. I didn't get sick, but I wish I would have, you know?

Anyways, the reason I went down there was to see the Flaming Lips. I wish you could see them every night, really I do. All kinds of gadgets, toys, and instruments were unfolding before me. A dozen Santas on one side of the stage, and a dozen aliens on the other. Not to mention the strippers that made their way to the front of the stage, only to be forced back to their cages upon realizing they didn't know any songs. There was also a light saber/viking/space hero boy, a slew of marvel and dc comics superheros, and other random costumed characters up there. lots of giant orange balls floating around, and confetti cannons aplenty. The songs were astounding, and I couldn't stop dancing, singing, and otherwise partying along. Lots of good friends were there, and the Flips knew all of them. This will never leave my memory. I hope to see them soon. I am lame.

This picture explains a ton about why I like them.

Great Success!
Category: Blogging

The yard sale went very well, thank you to those of you who attended. I walked out of my front door to start setting up at 630 am, and there were trucks full of bargain hunters already waiting. I was glad to know that craigslist, myspace, and the 24 old coffee bean menu boards i used for signs around town helped make it a smash hit. I stared the shoppers down for a while, then raised my mug of tea and said "Esperate!" (wait).
then i set up, and next thing you know, empty by 8am. we were out there till about 2pm but most of the good stuff went before people even started walking their dogs.
I swear yard/garage salers show up in their best vehicles:

Also, i picked up a dvd today for $5 dollars, but it is worth waaaaay more than $5.
It is The Karate Kid. It will be watched next week.
I am seeking clarity right now through meditation and thought provoking thoughts. i ahve only been drinking tea and water this week. tonight i had some pizza with lisa's family though. i feel sick. i came home and had some tea and immediately made peace with my soul and my intestines. yay for the creator of intestines. that might be blasphemous, but wouldn't it be pussin' out to say that we are fully created a certain way, but never get to mention the unmentionable stuff like gas, bloating, diarrhea, vomit, et cetera?
Thanks for the wild imagination, too. Yay thoughts. Sometimes i can't sleep because of the thoughts. What was that? Did you hear that owl? I think it said Why? instead of Who? I have to get up and check outside the front to make sure nobody is at the front door. Sometimes, i even wake up to do that.

I guess i'm just going on and on now, but hey it is my blog on my space. Go somewhere else now. I love you.

I really really love to barbecue
Current mood: delicious
Category: delicious Food and Restaurants

Every wednesday, Lisa and I are both off of work. This gives us one day a week when we can focus on being a family, and i actually have time to prepare stuff to grill! I love being outside, setting the coals in a pyramid, pouring the lighter fluid all over the place and setting it ablaze. what a rush. it is very calming at the same time exciting, knowing that the food that i am making (sometimes other people help and/or contribute to the process) is going to come off of there piping hot and smoky-licious. Plus the variations you can do on ordinary indoor dishes is phenomenal. anyways, i just wanted to put that because hey, tonight i am going to fire it up.
I love it so much, i got a job managing the new Phil's BBQ in Point Loma!
come see me (not on mondays or wednesdays) 3750 Sports Arena Blvd (right next to SD sports arena)

Back from tour.
Category: Travel and Places

Well, it was a family vacation and we went to several cities and rocked and stayed with friends, so it was very much like a tour, except no concerts. Almost but no.
Here is a minor breakdown of the cities, families, and food!
day/night 1- rich and carly in long be-atch: sushi
day/night 2- rich made great breakfast that included fluffy eggs and thick slices of applewood smoked bacon. then, onward we drove to dave and ayme in santa maria: filet mignon awaited us and ayme's famous rice pilaf dish that i would use later that week.
day/night 3- Orcutt, CA: chef rick's for lisa's birthday= lots of stuff. he hooked us up! that meal had so many things, here are but a few: coconut shrimp w/ a good dipping sauce (that's what the menu says), garlic chowder, two free bottles of wine, chilled asparagus salad with scallops, jalapeno cheddar rolls, seared ahi, fried oysters, herb crusted salmon, and much much more!
day/night 4- lisa's birthday= lots of good times. in san francisco by 2pm at ed and teresa's. Dinner at Fly on divisadero in western addition was thai pizza and foghorn leghorn sandwich (delectable), then dessert at The Elite Cafe on Fillmore in Pacific Heights (i think).

Forgot to take desserts home with us. they were good though- Bluberry bread pudding with blueberry ice cream and a molten lava fudge cake, mmm-mmm!
day 5- Walked around Golden Gate park and saw a lady posing gracefully with ninja weapons, so naturally we asked if Eden could play with her.

Then we met Ryan and Holly Sharp at La Carnita for lunch in mission district. LOUD NOISES! Prawns, Mushrooms, Green Onions (whole) with rice. i can't explain the goodness of it with fresh made horchata and a lime jarritos soda bottle. delicious. i even got to give half of lisa's burrito to some homeless freak who was trying to scare the kids, but they ain't bein' phazed! he said, oh thanks man! Then came evening time. house party at ed and teresa's (san francisco still). He has a smoker/barbecue combo. I made good use of that for mustard vinigarette chickens w/rice pilaf and prawns, grilled veggies and sauteed portobellos!. Teresa made a secret hershey's fudge cake with vanilla butter frosting and Holly Sharp brought over loaves of pumpkin bread, and Joel brought some plum wine that was mysteriously friendly. Deadly for sure, in a delicious way. this was a great night with lots of folks from san diego and southern CA who recently moved up to the bay. weird yet not. like a new community or something... this night lasted a long time.
day 6- chilled at their house all day. only had tea! night fell slowly upon us, and thai food showed up with some red and white wine! great conversations about growing up ghetto (the smell of curry and funk), being a socialist but not a communist, voting power of all demographics, minorities, christians, ladies, gentlemen, then we got smart and watched scary movie 4. i was the only one who stayed awake, and that is why i win.
day 7- hung out a little in the morning, then left for santa maria again. ate a grilled chicken ranch club from McDonald's. not bad at all really. not too memorable though. got there, boom! tri-tip barbecue and a huge get together of their family, and good friends. Wiggins made salsa and mojitos. so so so good.
day 8- woke up early and went to the store to make breakfast tortas. great choice to end the vacation. Check it: large organic eggs, thick smoked bacon, diced papas with onions, sour cream guacamole, fresh baked bolilos (the bread), leftover salsa, tillamook medium cheddar cheese, and Tapa-frickin-tio for a kick. heaven! then we rode bikes and all that. kids got sick and we didn't go to max and michelles wedding. missed lots of good times there, dancing, and of course, great cuisine. got home at midnight, worked at 530 am, and 5am tomorrow! almost settling down!!! can't stop!! uh!
next blog- maybe a recipe? a joke? i don't know.

Nelly is a horrible Rapper
Current mood: annoyed
Category: Fashion, Style, Shopping

I mean he has a nice cadence, and is a little bit original with his vocal patterns, but i can tell he's wearing a band aid on his cheek. And I also saw his football skills in The Longest Yard. whoopsy. I feel that he should have stuck to playing baseball. He got huge with a couple songs, which is not unheard of nowadays but America needs Slick Rick
AND K-Solo

AND D-nice

to bring the rap again. (D-nice, by the way, has a very good eye for photography these days. Check his myspace or Website out.
Anyways, this is just a little music rant. I'll hopefully be doing a corn tortilla taste test this week, totally boring like NPR and stuff. But That's what i feel like doing, and shoot if this isn't MySpace, then I don't know what is!
I made your fingers snap and your rhytmic toes tap now Rap! da boom bap...
