Comedian Scam
Current mood: aggravated
Category: Travel and Places
Just to let you know that I have discovered a new scam. If you are emailed by someone from abroad wanting to book you for their Wedding, Barmitzvah, Funeral etc because they've heard of 'your great act', this might not be genuine. Even though your act is great. Really, you're one of ther best on the circuit. Anyway, what they do is offer you a deposit to retain your services. You agree and hand over your bank details. They thank you and then empty your account. Oh, and there's no gig. And no, it hasn't happened to me, but I was offered it and - being a tad sceptical - when I looked into it I realised what it was. Anyway, just to warn you. I remember when I was just a Comedian.

Done and dusted
Current mood: accomplished
Category: News and Politics
Well my documentary, which changed its title from How to Steal an Identity to How Not To Lose Your Identity went out last week. The feedback has been great and the majority of the Press (The Guardian, The Telegraph, The Independent) really liked it. The Express didn't get it (probably because Princess Diana wasn't it) and The Times was annoyed I would not give them an interview so slagged it off. I've had over 5000 hits to my website with a lot of pople thanking me for making it and asking what they can do to protect themselves. So I've put stuff on my website; www.bennettarron.co.uk
Can I recommend that you do get a Credit Report as it will show you if anything untoward is happening with your money. You can also get a 3 month free trial of a scheme which notifies you if anyone tries to access your accounts or opens accounts in your name. I think it's worth it.
On stage at The Glee in Birmingham over the weekend I got heckled with "Are you Charles Clarke" and "Nice pyjamas". If you haven't seen the programme, that will make no sense. If you still want to see it you can download it from the Channel 4, 4 on Demand Service. It costs 99p. No, I don't get any money from it.
There is still a link to the programme at Channel 4: http://www.channel4.com/news/microsites/I/identity/index.html
Anyway, thanks for the lovely comments from those of you who texted/emailed/telegrammed.
I'll let you know if anything else happens from it. And when my book comes out!

Tuesday May 15th. Channel 4. 11:05pm
Current mood: accomplished
Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities
Well, unless the authorities stop it again, my programme is going out next Tuesday. For those of you who know nothing about it - what are you doing in my friends list? In brief, I started filming a documentary, based on my Edinburgh show, in September 2005. 2005! It was finished in April 2006 and was meant to be transmitted that September. However, due to the illegal act I had carried out in making the programme, I was arrested and the transmission date stopped. Now, after accepting my punishment like a good boy and making a couple of tweaks to the film, it is ready to go out. It's already been called "Fascinating and disturbing" by the TV Times. So that's it. The programme is called How Not To Lose Your Identity and I direct and present it.
Don't worry if you forget, I will remind you on Monday.
And Tuesday.

NOEL EDMONDS TALKS TO CAMERA

CUT TO: A Thin African Man (Colin, The Contestant) is standing in front of a box. In front of him are 21 CELEBRITIES.
NOEL: Colin here has to decide if he's going to accept the DEALER'S OFFER of a sandwich with a side order of cole slaw or, instead, keep whatever he has in his box.
NOEL: So Colin, have you decided?
COLIN: Yes, I'm ready for the question.
NOEl: Okay. Colin, for a sandwich with a side order of cole slaw... Meal or no Meal?
COLIN: No meal!
NOEL: Thank you.
The audience clap and cheer
NOEL: Well Colin, let's see if you've made the right decision.
NOEL OPENS THE BOX. INSIDE IS ONE POLO MINT
NOEL: (sadly) It's a mint.
The audience sighs
NOEL: Vanessa, please open your box.
{Lenny Henry stifles a laugh}
Vanessa Feltz opens her box. Inside is a lavish THREE COURSE MEAL
NOEL: I'm so sorry Colin.
We cut back to Colin who is now eating his box.
NOEL: Over to you Griff.

"Good afternoon, Mr. President. Sorry I've been away so long. I won't let you down again."
As we all know those are the last lines from Superman II. And I think you'll agree they are just as apt here as they were there.
I'm sorry for being slack on the Blog front but I've been a tad busy. And I've had a cold.
So, what's been happening? Well I'm currently writing my third episode for the second series of Genie in the House for Nickelodoen. I'm working on a Jewish Sketch Show, which might sound awful but is really a lot worse. I'm writing a pilot episode for a new children's show and writing a book.
Still nothing on the documenatary. It's as if Channel 4 had more important things to think about
Don't be a stranger.
Back soon...

My Channel 4 Documentary - How To Steal an Identity
As a few of you have asked, (6 of you in fact), I will let you know the current state of play with regard to the documentary I have been working on for Channel 4 for the past year.
For those of you who don't know I directed a documentary on the subject of Identity Fraud. In the programme I show how easy it is to steal someone's identity.
(It happened to me seven years ago and left me almost penniless and homeless. It was the topic of my Edinburgh Show last year - 'Hilarious' The Standard, 'Fascinating...few can afford to miss it' Chortle 'Not worth the admission price' The Jewish Chronicle)
The programme was meant to have been transmitted two months ago, but due to Police intervention - it's a long story - it's now been put on hold. Hopefully it will see the light of day in the next month or so.
I'll keep you posted...
