Summer Reading Program information!
So, the Summer Reading Program starts June 2. That is when you can start counting your time.
This year we are doing something a little different. For every 1 hour you spend reading materials from The Benton Harbor Library you get 1 library dollar. You may count up to 10 hours a week, and once you hit 40 hours you get a bonus. Everyone who joins the program gets a book to keep. If you stop reading in the middle of an hour simply round to the closest hour (that means if you read for an hour and 15 minutes, then round down to 1 hour. 1 hour and 45 minutes, round up to 2 hours.)
Keep track of your library dollars and spend them at the auction at the end of the summer. It's as simple as that! Visit the library or check back go this page for information about the prizes!

What color(s) will it be?
This summer one of the prizes for the reading program is going to be the chance to pick Ms. Kat's hair color! As many of you know Kat has gone through many different colors this past year. Pink with purple, purple with blue, and purple with green... Now YOU can pick her new hair color, if you are the highest bidder.
Check out www.amphigory.com for the Special Effects colors that you can choose form. These colors include (but are not limited to):
Blue Haired Freak
Atomic Pink
Pimpin' Purple
Bright as F@! Yellow
Nuclear Red
and Fishbowl
So, check out books from BHPL, keep track of your reading time, earn library dollars, and bid on the chance to choose Kat's hair color.
P.S. Kat has to get a new driver's license this fall, so the colors you pick may well be memoralized on her license for the next few years.

Review: Stealing Heaven by Elizabeth Scott
Stealing Heaven by Elizabeth Scott
This is based on an ARC of the book, the published form may be different.
Danielle has never known a life without stealing. She and her mother live on the run, stealing silver, and never letting anyone know the real them. Then they come to Heaven, and Danielle starts gets a taste of what she has never had, realizing that she wants a life without stealing, without silver, and without fake names or IDs, she just wants to be normal. But, will she ever be able to?
This is the third book of Scott's that I've read, and by far its my favorite. I would have finished it the day I started but I had to put it aside so I could sleep and go to work the next day.

Getting ready for summer
Hey all, Ms. Kat just came back from Spring Insitute and now she is getting ready for this summer at the BHPL!
We are starting off with a Naruto Clash of Ninja 2 tournament tomorrow. Coming this summer we will also have a Mario Kart Tournament, a Smash Bros. tournament, and a card game tournament, come in and sign up so we can call and remind you the day before each tournament!
Speaking of this summer, the Teen Summer Reading Program has been revamped this year and launches on June 2nd. Get your books and start reading so you can earn your library dollars. Use those dollars at the end of the summer in our Summer Reading Program teen auction to bid on different prizes, including the chance to choose Ms. Kat's next hair colors!
Another reading program prize we are going to give away will be a bag of books, well, there will be two bags of books. We need to know what books YOU want to win though, so if there are any books you are excited about coming out this summer then tell us! Reply to this blog, email us, visit Ms. Kat's page and tell her, however you want. We already have some books donated by some great authors, now we just need to build on that selection!
Keep on the look out for our next blog where we will be giving you an update about new books at the library, and don't forget that you can reserve books online, at the library, or by calling and talking to a librarian!
