The Single Soul
Current mood: contemplative
Category: Goals, Plans, Hopes

So today I went Jetskiing with my friend Michelle at the lake.

On the way back we saw a deer, again, that was just beautiful, and I had a chance to take a picture!

She also let me borrow her "Chicken Soup for the Single Soul" book. As I was flipping thru it, one of the stories in it just resonated with me. It was about a lady who lost her husband in the Spanish American war, and by 1901 she had written herself a list of things to do to make it thru each day.

They make sense to me - how about you?

1 - Do something for someone else.

2 - Do something for yourself.

3 - Do something you have been putting off, but need to deal with.

4 - Get some physical exercise.

5 - Get some mental exercise.

6 - Say an original prayer that reminds you how good you have it.

They had some examples of things that would fill each one of these. It's something to think about as you live your life.

Ouch, I deserved that! - Ryan’s week in the woods....
Category: Life

Hiya folks!

Hopefully everyone's week is going well.  Mine, not so much - read on.

So last week was awesome!  I got to ride bikes with M&K, I got caught up at work, and I flew myself to Marysville, Lincoln Nebraska, Topeka, and Abilene in 3 hours in the Warrior.  I also got to visit my folks and my cousin on the trip.  Also got to do more jetskiing, but I think we've got a fuel problem now.  Don't worry - it will be fixed.

On Friday the Fourth I decided that I needed to shine up my truck since it had been so long since I properly detailed it.  Years in fact.  So I started waxing away without a shirt. . . . didn't want to get one dirty you see.  After about an hour I felt a tingle, so I went in and put on some sunscreen.  5 hours later I was all done detailing and got a call that it was time to go to dinner.  Kept at it and even got all the wheels polished.

That night I was over at a friend's having a wonderful time eating, drinking, wandering around the nieghborhood, and watching fireworks.  Did you guys see the happy face - AWESOME!  The tingle started to come back, and in the flashes, I looked a bit red.  Maybe I got a sunburn.

As usual when I am having a great time, my brain short circuited, and I stayed up talking without thinking instead of treating my wounds and going to bed.  I woke up at 5 in the morning in agony.  Now I knew I had burned myself.  Anyone who knows me knows I don't get up on Saturday morning for just anything.  I saw myself in the mirror and I looked so red I was like a hairy stop sign.  I took a shower in cold water, and when I tried to dry off, nothing came off me but screams and pink on the towel. Eiww!  Clearly I was screwed.

I spent the whole Saturday around the house wearing just underpants and trying to put lotion on, failing miserably.  Eventually I took to Target, and got some spray stuff and aloe vera.  The spray worked good, for about 2 hours.  So much for my idea of going camping with friends, who were pissed because I ditched (sorry).  I got about 4 hours of sleep, and woke up on fire again on Sunday.  I even tried taking lots of tylenol pm.  I couldn't move my arms!  I thought I would get up early and Ride to Cassoday.  Ditched friends again.  Arrgh!  Eventually I got enough stuff on by the evening that I could go to the barber and take are of those loose hairs my gal pals have been nagging me about.  I could not lean back in the chair.  Even the hairdresser said it was the worst sunburn she had seen!

I had some barbecue with my friend's folks, and things had cleared up a good bit.  But I couldn't get my shirt off that night without going to the shower again.  It was stuck to the chicken fried fool.  I could tell wherever I put aloe vera on felt better for about 5 minutes.  I can say this is the only time I got the shakes and puked from sun.  Did I get sunstroke, just a bad burn, or what?  I thought about digging in my medicine cabinet for the leftover Lortab from my alien baby incident, then decided against it.

I honestly think Monday was the worst.  I couldn't sleep on my back, and my arms were weeping red.  After a few hours sleep, waking up at 4:30 to say goodbye to people who weren't leaving, and weren't there, I went with Doug from work to pick up the rental car.  Mornings with pain are the worst, and it only changed from physical to mental.  The car had a broken mirror, dings, and as we later found out, the air conditioner ran over a gallon of water into the rear.  It also provided the most painful driving experience I could imagine.  I had to sit up while Doug drove.  More tylenol, and excedrin, and later some ibuprofen.  We went to a plant in Warrensburg, MO to install a robot, and I could not bend over to attach wires.  Some help I was.  At least the plant was air conditioned.  The woods in the area are beautiful, but all I could think about that night was how I boneheaded I could be, and how I was going to work my way thru the week.

Unluckily, the robot somehow caught my brain damage when I fired it up Tuesday, so I spent it on the phone and reloading software.  After that I was busy pondering that I really didn't have it that bad, but sometimes I just do dumb things that unravel my world.

Wed we changed out the car for a Ram pickup that appears to have gone mudding at some time in the recent past.  The outside of it was clean at least.

Finally on Thursday things are changing to the better.  I am using the whole world as my scratching post.  Doug laughs and says I look like an anaconda trying to shed.  He keeps asking when I am going to molt!  Can he keep the skin as a trophy?  Well, I think by Sat, I will have moved from big red bonehead Ryan, to blistering expletive whispering Ryan.  Things are going well now in Warrensburg, Missouri on the job, and I got a quote out at 12:30am that looks like it will go, so I can be even busier.  Fool!

So, does anything work for sunburn other than time?  Maybe this is punishment for the bad things I have done.  And what are folks up to this weekend?  I sure could use a day in the water.   After I get home and feed the cat, I'm gonna turn the AC to about 59 degrees and maybe see if I can be recovered enough to go dancing Sat. night.  Zap me back.

Marysville High School Class of 1989 Reunion

....
Marysville High School Class of 1989 Reunion
Folks

Since I was class president, I suppose I need to start getting this ball rolling. I need to decide where to have the reunion, and when. I remember going to my folk's 20th anniversary, and it was in a park shelter. Everyone still had a pretty good time. It looks like the cheapest place with the most room is the VFW hall - does anyone have a better idea? And should it be during the summer, or something like Labor Day weekend? If it much later, everybody else with kids and real jobs has trouble getting off. I am going to check the Alumni Site, myspace, and facebook and see how many folks I can round up. So, if you care, or know someone who does, zap me back.

Party at Ryans June 21st, 2008.

Folks

I'm ditching work early today to go jetskiiing, but I thought I'd tell you about upcoming fun.

I am planning a party at my house Saturday June 21st. We will be cooking, either Lasagne again or maybe grilling, there will be plenty of food, drinks, music, and fun.  Some games and talking too.  I think we will start 6ish to whenever.  Bring whoever you want, just give me an idea of how many will be there.  Everyone will have fun and be nice.

Might even empty out the garage to use as a dance floor : )

So, if you are up fo it, let me know. If you would help me set up, even better. I figure that the weekend before is River Festival, so that won't interfere, the weekend after is Stampede, and it will let everyone get out of the house.  It's on summer solstice if you need a reason to come.

So, wanna come over?  Let me know what your status is

A - I will be there with bells on
B - I will be there early to help you get ready, and maybe bring something.
C - I'm not sure, but it sounds like fun - I'll let you know more later.
D - Nope, not for me this time.

ARRGH!!! my eyes

ARRGH!!! my eyes

Ok, so I have been having some problems recently with seeing at night, or when there is a big contrast between light levels.  So I called up Dr. Grene's office, who tell me to see my local eye doctor.  So I see Dr. Banniger here in town, because Dr. Cole has quit and gone walkabout in the third world.  He tells me I have corneal hazing and sends me to see Dr. Grene today in Wichita.  So I go, and he tells me I'm the 4th case he has seen. . . . . ever . . . . in 30 years.  So then he has his assitants come in and they start looking and wiring and taking pictures.  Good news - it is probably curable, bad news, it may take a year, and I may have to have more surgery.  What causes it - UV light or contaminant exposure.  The only thing I can think of is all the time dancing in the bar . . . ugh, PEOPLE STOP SMOKING!!!!

So, I am on steroidal drops, which may cause future cataracts or glaucoma, every four hours, for the foreSEEable future.  I did get to see Indiana Jones tonight, and it was pretty good - not great, but definitely good.  And we are all still on for a get down at my house, Sat June 21st 6pm.

Ducks, Dates, and Danger

Ok, so it was a pretty good weekend.

Friday I got to go out dancing and had a great time with Jill and Sis, and the girls. I wish I would have known about Kid Rock being in Wichita with Run DMC.

So, went to Wichita Saturday to visit my sister in law and we ended up going to Dillon Nature Center, where we went for a hike with her mom. There was a mama duck and 9 ducklings and it was just as cute as could be. I wish I had a better camera to take the pics.

Later Heather and her next door neighbor girls took me to Abeulo's (best mexican food in Wichita) and we went dancing at Margaritas. It was so packed it was one in one out. Seemed like Clarissa and her sister Becky are nice girls. I do love going to Wichita for a change.

Sunday I went flying out of Benton in 332 and did some touch and goes at Augusta and I was going to do the same thing at Jabara Airport in Wichita. Then I see something an awful lot like a B-17 bomber out of the corner of my eye. Then after I turn base and announce final, i hear "Fortress 390 5 south for full stop Jabara." So I hustle my butt down to the ground and park at the edge of the ramp. The bomber lumbers down, and even 200ft away puts out quite a blast of air. Looks like other folks knew about the arrival.

The B-17 is what won the war in Europe, decimating Germany in 1944 and 1945. Sometimes 2500 would be aloft at a time - giving rise to the term "aluminum overcast." This one, Liberty Belle, with cleaned up nose art is the only Flying B-17 in the US right now. I got to crawl all over it and take pics and talk to the crew. So, neat for me! I put the pics up on myspace for folks to look at.

Let’s try online dating in this century too

Well, let's face it, one of the reasons I'm on MySpace is to find a wife.

And you can't find a wife without having a girlfriend.

And you can't get a girlfriend without some girl friends.

And this seems to be a good place to meet them : )

But waay back a long time ago before they started charging money, I had my face up on dating sites like Match and Yahoo Personals. And it kinda sorta worked. Online people it seems are just as strange (me included) as ones you meet the old fashioned way. Some people are just out to get laid, some people have way too much drama, some people need a life, and some people are actually pretty darn cool. So here's my updated match/yahoo ad. Give me some constructive criticism. And, if you'd like to go ahead and have some fun with me, zap me back.

Well, it's about time for a new headline. I'm a really busy guy looking for a girl with just as much energy as me. I don't need someone exactly like me, but someone who has drive and desire to enjoy life would be nice. I'm a nice guy, I go to church, I have a car, a house, real job and and a degree from K-State. In fact, My place has a lot of Space. I don't smoke, I do cook, But don't worry-I don't decorate or wear pink. I have two motorcycles and would love to teach someone to ride. I like kids and am involved in BigBrothers/BigSisters. I would like to help raise kids, or have some in the future. I travel a lot, to local places around town and the state, I love Colorado, and have been in 17 foreign countries. I speak enough spanish to order a beer, find the bathroom, and cross the border.

Right now I am working on my Pilot's License and am seriously considering the purchase of a Piper Cherokee. I'm making a few changes in life, letting more people in, I have done laser surgery on my eyes, I am working on losing weight, and getting some things done that have needed doing for a long time. I stay fit, and dancing is my favorite way to do that. Dancing is a must, and I don't believe in dating without it. I read and watch a lot of movies, and like to learn about my world.

What about you? I am looking forward to seeing and hearing from you!

Warren’s Going away Pirate Party

Folks

Some of you may know my friend Warren. He’s a twisted sort that prefers to be an Engineer for a year or so at a time, live in Little River, KS, make a bunch of money and pile it up. Then it’s time to go off to the sunny side of the third world for a while. Previously he has spent 3 years walking to the tip of Tierra del Fuego and back, and this time he means to be a dive instructor in the Bahamas. Forver he says, but I give him 2 years.

Anywhoo, we are having a pirate themed going away party for him this Friday night in Little River Kansas. At Birka’s - across the street from THE SHED. If anyone wants to carpool, it will be a blast. Let myself or Laura know.

Whoo Hoo! I FLEW SOLO

Whoo Hoo!  I FLEW SOLO

Yesterday 2/3/2008 I finally got to fly solo!  I will have pics and video up on myspace sometime soon.  I can now fly the Cessna 172 from Stearman Field in Benton to El Dorado and Newton by myself.  I still have a lot of hours and practice to go before I get my license, but this is a big jump!

This is something I have been working on since December and have wanted to do since I was about 6. I am stoked and had to tell people.
