BUSY BUSY BUSY

Hey Kids

I am the worst blogger.

But I am pretty good at being a decent radio person (I think).

Right now I am doing double duty...

Not only am I the program director @ 103.9 PROUD FM www.proudfm.com

BUT I am also hosting the afternoon show from 3-7.

Check it out if you have a chance.  I sat down with legendary Canadian singer songwriter Carole Pope of Rough Trade for an hour.

It should be posted @ www.proudfm.com by the time you read this.

Loving you.

Entertainment thoughts...

Matthew McConaughey tops E! News’ new poll of the men women most want to spoon with. David Beckham finished second followed by Justin Timberlake.  Now look, if ABSOLUTLEY HAD to spoon with a man, I guess Matthew McConaughey would be somewhere on the list, but first over all?  The man doesn’t own a shirt!  And I get the feeling there are some hygine issues there.

Mariah Carey is replacing Janet Jackson as this week’s musical guest on SNL.  That’s like replacing "crazy" with "nuts"...what’s the diff?

OK! reports Britney has a shrine in her home devoted to Justin Timberlake.   Yeah so?  Like who doesn’t?  He’s so dreamy.  A source says, "She’s obsessed with him. She has pictures of them together and has devoted a private area just to celebrate him."  I think he’s pretty familiar with her "private area" and has celebrated there many a time.

Lindsay Lohan says she wants to sound like Rihanna on her comeback CD. "I want it to be dance. I want it to be kind of Kylie Minogue meets Rihanna."  I personally wouldn’t mind seeing Kylie Minogue "meet" Rihanna.  I think that would be hot.

Mary Ann and the Mary Jane.

Dawn Wells, who played Mary Ann on "Gilligan's Island," is serving six months' unsupervised probation for getting caught with marijuana in her car. She was also fined $410.50 after pleading guilty to one count of reckless driving.  I always knew she was the sexier one.  Take that Ginger...

Tom Arnold says he tried to get Britney into rehab in 2006 after he tripped on her in an apartment stairwell in their neighborhood. "I tripped on her… She waited for an hour and a half for Kevin to come up in the elevator and find her and go, 'Oh my God, honey, are you OK?' and help her in. Now that's sad."  You know you are the epitome of a train wreck when your name is in the same story as Tom Arnold, and YOU end up looking bad.

some entertainment thoughts...well not thoughts really.

George Clooney is getting married. A restaurant owner from Como, Italy says, "They haven't made any announcement yet, but there are people in this town who know more than me. They say the couple are already engaged." Another source says the two will tie the knot at George's Lake Como, Italy home this summer. His rep says he is not engaged.  But I beg to differ, I mean if some dude who owns a restaurant in Italy says it's true then it has to be.

..:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Kim Kardashian says rumors she recently had surgery to enhance her rear are false. "Have people not seen Armenian women before? All these rumors that my rear is fake… Who gets butt implants? Just recently in a magazine, they said that I had my nose, lips, cheeks and boobs done. Watch me take my bra off and you'll know I haven't had my boobs done!"  Uhhh we've all seen the video Kim, we've seen them already.

Nickelback's Chad Kroeger says before he became a rock star he was a drug dealer. "I sold a little weed here, some mushrooms there. I had to subsidise the income somehow. I knew a lot of people who had weed, and a lot of people on the oil rigs needed weed. I could get it. That seemed like a no-brainer."  Someone from BC sold weed and mushrooms?  How strange.

Rihanna says she is very insecure about her legs. "My legs. I'm insecure about them. Everyone wants to have slim, perfectly-toned legs and I'm the same. I do weights but I don't want my legs to bulk up so I do a lot of cardio. I've lost a lot of weight since I started working out and if I exercise every day for a week, I can drop several pounds. If I diet, I see even faster results."  Well aren't you just perfect Ms. Umbrella?

Helena Christensen and Josh Hartnett have reportedly separated after being together for a year. Sources say that the reason for the breakup is because nobody gave a crap they were together.

Fergie says when she was using drugs she thought the FBI was after her. "I had about 20 different conspiracy theories. I painted the windows in my apartment black so 'they' couldn't see in. One day, when I was about 90 pounds, a guy comes up to me . . . I'm searching in the bushes for clues about whatever they're after me for. I'm in a cowboy hat and red lips. He hands me a muffin. I'm thinking, he's in on it."  Yes Fergie…the FBI's most wanted reads 1. Osama Bin Laden 2. The Ugly girl from Black Eyed Peas.

Is been 11 Months

How've you been?

Me?  Oh I'm fine.

I'm just a lazy, lazy blogger.

But here are some thoughts that I was inspired to share...nothing earth shattering, I just wanted to get back into the habit.

Justin Timberlake is going to produce a new NBC series called My Problem With Women. It's about a bachelor, named Jose, who starts seeing a therapist to try and understand why his relationships have failed.  Justin's problem with women is that he "finds them icky"...:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Fergie says she loves to fish. "I'm a fisherman. When I was a little girl, my dad would take me fishing. I was fishing in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, recently, and I went fishing for marlin and dorado. You throw the marlin back, but you eat the dorado."  Thank you very much Bob Izumi.

Jay-Z may jump to G-Unit with 50 Cent. A source tells mediatakeout.com, "Jay Z wouldn't just be coming on as an artist - he'd take over a lot of the day to day running of the label ... 50 Cent would then be free to focus on his music and other ventures."  You know other ventures…thinking about shooting people, how to avoid being shot, and of course, shooting people.

Miley and Billy Ray Cyrus recently sent Barbara Walters a golden toilet as a way to apologize for a mishap that occurred at their home during an interview. Babs says one of her crew members overflowed a toilet. "When one overflowed, the whole plumbing system went wrong in the house, and all the toilets overflowed." The toilet also featured a note that read: "So you'll always remember the Cyrus family."  Oh don't you worry Billy Ray…everytime I look at a toilet, deep inside, I am really thinking of you.

Leona Lewis recently turned down a $500,000 offer to perform four songs at a party in Dubai. A source says, "Leona was offered the $500,000 to perform just four songs. It wouldn't have taken much more than 15 minutes. 'Expenses were thrown in on top for her and her team — so not a bad night's work. But it seems it wasn't enough."  Leona Lewis, you have one decent song and won some UK reality show.  Take the money and run!

Is MySpace Dead?

As I stated earlier I joined Facebook...I think the rest of western civilization has as well.

I admit, I am not blogging as much as I was because I have been really busy with my new job...but it seems like traffic is waaaaaay down.

I like Facebook, but I don't like that if you don't have a Facebook account you can't read my Blog...they are called notes there.

And I love the fact that when people google me (which I hope people do all the time - baby c'mon)...this is the page that comes up.

But I have to go with the flow...don't I?  Or should I buck the trend?  And stay here and write to no one?

Maybe I will invent SPACEBOOK© or MYFACE.©

In the meantime...work is busy...the new show starts next week.

103.9 PROUD FM

Hey kids...

Let's keep this totally off the record...but 103.9 is actually playing music LIVE...I don't think it counts as a launch, but I helped schedule the music, so I wanna know what you think!

bingobob@proudfm.com

Take a listen if you are in the 416.

AND check out the website www.proudfm.com

I am not sure if we are streaming the air feed yet (it might just be a 5 hour loop)...but check it out anyway.

Things have been crazy...I've been doing a lot of work in the programming department while we wait to get the studios built so we can actually do a morning show...spent the whole weekend @ the station...but things are starting to come together.

Like I said, if you have a sec, check it out.

OH, and on a totally different note, if you are on Facebook (and who isn't? apparenty) take a look around for me...when I finish this posting I am going to follow everyone else in to the fire.

Thanks for stopping by.

What's Goin On?

I have been busy and tired...thats whats goin on.

We are preparing to launch 103.9 PROUD FM and I am putting in at least a 9-5 day everyday.  Which is totally normal to most people...but for me, I've been doing the 330am thing basically for 10 years, I have come to love my nap...and now - no nap.

I know, I know, poor me.  Trust me I am not complaining, I am just making excuses for not updating this blog enough.

I was lucky enough to attend some Canadian Music Weeks stuff last week, and I gotta say it was great.  Not the panels, I'm talking about running into almost everyone I used to work with.  I forgot how many people I have worked with...Some really talented creative people.

No matter how I left a job (be it transfer, quit or "fired") I have always tried to leave on a good note, this industry is waaaay to small to burn bridges.  For all I know I could end up at Corus or Standard (or Astral or whatever it will be called) again.

This might sound a little self serving, but it was great having people congratulate me on my new job because they read it here or on Milkman or the big yellow radio board...and most of them were nice enough to say that they felt I shouldn't have been fired in the first place.  That kind or reassurance really goes a long way...don't get me wrong, I am still a cocky bastard, but over six months without working really takes its toll on the ego.

Anyway, to everyone who I saw thanks it was great seeing you, and who knows, with this industry maybe we will be working together again someday.

If anyone ever wants to get a hold of me please email me bingobob@proudfm.com

By the way, even though things have been crazy busy there at PROUD, they are great.  I am working with (and for) some really terrific people (contrary to what a couple bitter folks said on a yellow board).

Not only have I been working with Ken and Mary Jo, but I helping out in the programming department...basically I am acting like an AMD...apparently 10 years of radio and H&F  has paid off.

Thats about it for now.

Have a great St. Patrick's Day this weekend, and if you want to come to an authentic Irish party, email me at the address above and I can fill you in on a great party...my father in law was born in Dublin...and I am baking Irish Soda Bread...I'm either the greatest son in law ever, or a huge kiss up.

Checking in.

Hey kids...

Sorry for ignoring the blog thing...apparently working at a radio station about to launch is quite time consuming.

Do me a favour and check this out:  http://www.mikeboon.com/2007/03/the_bingo_bob_interview.html

Mike Boon (AKA Toronto Mike) did an interview with me...he's a great guy who I met thanks to Humble.

If you need to get a hold of me I have a work email account:

bingobob@proudfm.com

Also, the website should be up and running very soon:

Rosie DiMano Is An Idiot

Please read Rosie DiMano's column from today's Toronto Star.

This woman has a hate on for radio people.

Before I dissect some of the insane things she said in today's piece, let me tell you that this isn't the first time she has written a negative article about the people I work with.

When we launched Mojo Radio, she wrote an article about what a terrible station we were and that "Talk Radio For Guys" was a misogynistic joke.  In that particular column she disclosed that she was sexually harassed as a teen by a local prominent disc jockey.  This I am sure was a horrible event, and that particular man is indeed scum, but I can't help but feel she is now using that one experience to paint all of us with the same brush.

Today's article is about a law suit between Tie Domi and Q107 morning man John Derringer....and somehow, she thinks Derringer is the one who lacks intelligence in this situation, but that's not the biggest problem.

The article opens with this:
There are still some of us around who remember the night a Toronto Maple Leafs' general manager chased a reporter through the Gardens press box, down the stairwell, perhaps out into the street, intent on killing the scribe.
That reporter would die of causes other than a pounding – cirrhosis of the liver, if memory serves – and I must admit cheering a bit because the sports scrivener had it coming. He was a notorious fabulist, such that an employer had to grovel in its pages by way of apology to a wildly libelled politician.

So basically she is insinuating that this writer was an alcoholic and deserved to die...very classy.

She goes on later:
A pacified Tie Domi no longer has that option, however much he may want to knock the snot out of radio personality John Derringer, which some of us would pay to watch.

So we are to understand that she doesn't like John Derringer very much.  Then she continues:
I didn't hear the Oct. 2 show – have never listened to that program.

Well, that's strange, how can she hate someone so much that she would pay to see him beaten, and yet she has "never listened to that program"?

She goes on:
But I've always been astonished by free-for-all radio palaver, where anybody can say just about anything, no matter how ill-informed, untrue, bilious and slanderous, under the rubric of fair comment. Print people can't get away with that, maybe because the published word has more traction.

Is that so, Rosie?  You've never printed bilious slanderous words?  Have you read the first two paragraphs of your column today?  Sure you didn't name the writer, but anyone in the industry knows who you are talking about, and you went so far as to suggest that he may have been an alcoholic...and from what I can read, you are happy that he is dead of liver disease.

I could care less about the lawsuit with Domi and Derringer, I have worked with both, and one of them mistook me for someone else and wanted to "drop the gloves" with me...guess which one?

What I care about is Rosie DiManno constantly putting down radio as an inferior media.  You can knock us as much as you want Rosie, but it isn't going to make your little columns any better.
