All the best grandparents deliver a "Labor of Love"

All the best Grandparents deliver a "Labor of Love"
..>
Hi all, Bird Mommy here...
I believe grandparents, whether they are actually raising their grand kids or not, have a huge influence on these kids lives. Our grandchildren have a way of thanking us for just being there for them!
When I was a teenager, sitting on my parent's back porch steps, looking up at the sky, I dreamed of the day I would find a man I could respect and admire, who would want to find the same attributes in a young woman like me. Two years later, I met a young man who had dreams and aspirations, very much like mine.
We were married at age twenty, as we are only three months apart in our birthdays. Today, we are the proud parents of two grown children and grandparents of four grandchildren.
Jan and I have worked together on many successful projects, mainly in the music industry. The one we both believe is our most meaningful and fulfilling project is a DVD for children, ages 2 through 8 years, this is what we call a "labor of love." Find us at: Bird Mommy's Readalomg Storybook for Kids
I want to encourage all parents and grandparents to visit our website, keeping in mind that we are still the young kids who had their dreams fulfilled by helping children everywhere, especially our grandchildren, with our labor of love.
Stop by our site and say "Hello." See you there!

Written with love to all caring parents and grandparents...
Current mood: thoughtful
Category: Life
First of all, I am a Mom, blessed with a baby girl and five years later, a baby boy. They are grown and have flown the nest, so today I'm proud to say,
"Call me Grandma Bird!"
Being a Grandmother has been more of a joy than I ever realized it could be! My family is my inspiration for many of my reasons to live. My husband and I enjoy every moment with our adult "kids," and our two remarkable Grand kids!
Life on this crazy, mixed-up, but beautiful planet, is not always easy. We all have our good days and with them come the bad, along with the sad. We also find ourselves concerned about the turmoil so many of us have to endure. Most of the world's problems seem to be out of our control, but there are problems we can do something about!
My outlet is in writing and loving what I do, because my main concern is for all the children of the world who desperately need our help in communicating their thoughts, hopes and dreams, as well as they possibly can.
It's truly a sad situation when we learn so many of our kids are leaving high school as drop-outs, and even graduating, yet many of them are still illiterate.
So how can we, as parents and grandparents, help with this worldwide problem? All I can suggest is this: Read interesting, parent-approved books, along with them, because teachers really don't have the same amount of time to spend with your kids and grand kids as you do!
Written with love to all caring parents and grandparents,
Donna Bird

To parents, everywhere: This is about your kids.
Current mood: cheerful
Category: Life
Do you have children who are now between the ages of two through eight years old? If so, do you really care about how much they learn during these ultra-important formative years?
As a parent and grandparent, I am appalled at the fact that many young people are attending grade school, yet are continuing to be illiterate, even after finishing the 12th grade, and many more are totally illiterate after attending college.
An example of this ongoing tragedy can be seen and heard on a popular segment of the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, where he interviews college students, asking them questions pertaining to current events occurring in the USA. A surprising amount of students appear to be not only illiterate, but they seem to have no knowledge of current issues or events.
Do you think these kids are all from families who just don't care about their children's education? This may or may not be true.
The timeless phrase: "Education begins at home," is more meaningful now, more than ever before, in the history of the USA and all other countries now experiencing video technology.
Have you wondered how this technology has affected many of our children? You may have noticed the amount of time your neighborhood kids spend playing mindless video games. Some of these "games" are so violent that our children are being exposed to extreme, graphic fighting to the point of killing! Many parents seem to be unaware or uncaring of how this video violence affects their young ones, now and possibly later in their adult lives.
I have observed pre-teens and teenagers who have become so wrapped-up in video games, they could be classified as "brain-dead." The first indication of this video-related affliction is often reflected in a child's report card, where grades fall into the "D" or "F" category.
Now is the time that you, as a caring parent, can do something positive to prevent your children from falling into this trap. Be extra-cautious when allowing your kids to visit others who may be viewing and playing violent video games.
Fully believing that education begins at home, my husband and I decided the best way to deliver a storybook for kids between the ages of two through eight years, was by producing a DVD that actually teaches children to read, with a read-along concept, complete with real-life photos, animation and uplifting instrumental background music.
Our DVD is entitled: "Bird Mommy's Readalong Storybook." We have received approval from parents and teachers from all across the USA. We tested our storybook in urban and rural areas and learned pre-school and grade-school teachers were thrilled with the DVD, partly because many of their students do not speak the English language at home, and by watching and reading along with Bird Mommy, they are now speaking, reading and learning to write words in English.
Discover for yourself by visiting our web site, where you can view and listen to each of the sixteen, full-length, stories and rhymes before making a decision to purchase the DVD. Please allow your child or children to watch along with you, and let them tell you how much they enjoy Bird Mommy's storybook.
Let's get your kids on the right path to literacy!

Yes, I am a "Real Person"
Current mood: bouncy
Category: Life
Hello Friends (and Potential Friends),
First, I would like to say, welcome! Whether you found me, or I found you, either way I'm glad you're here.
My name is Donna, otherwise known as Bird Mommy. I thought that I would introduce myself because sometimes when I send out friend requests, I get messages wondering if I am a "real person". I just wanted to tell you that I am!
I know that some of the requests I send may not make sense to you if you only glance at my name and didn't scroll down to my friends list, so I want to tell you a little about me and what I hope to accomplish here.
I am a mother, a grandmother, an aunt, and a businessperson. My primary reason for starting this profile was to share my children's DVD with people and to network with other businesses. However, there is so much more to me than that! I am also someone who cares deeply about social issues and feels that there is a level of responsibility involved in being a public figure. There are many issues that I feel strongly about, such as helping the missing, universal healthcare, and helping charities. So, while I may look like "just another business", I can assure you that I am not here to spam you or annoy you. If I sent you a friend request, it's because I was on your profile and I really liked it.
I try to send requests to all of the missing persons profiles that I find on myspace. My webmaster runs a missing persons profile, and she sends all of her clients messages about missing children and adults, so you may have more than one business send you a request if you got one from me. If you see "Green Web Design" or "Missing Persons Cases & Others Who Need Our Help" on the friends list of a business, then it means they have the same webmaster we do, and she has asked them to add your cause.
I add profiles about universal health care, becuase I feel passionately about it. I also add profiles for nonprofit organizations whose goals I also share. I add other businesses as well, and I also add daycare centers and other services related to children.
If you have any questions about me or why I added you, please ask!
The only thing that I ask of people who send me incoming friend requests, is that they be "G" rated. I will not approve anyone who has pornographic or adult materials on their profile, because I want my profile to be "Kid Safe" for what I hope are obvious reasons!
Stay safe, and thanks for stopping by!

What to do if your child becomes missing
Current mood: sympathetic
Category: Life
Act immediately if you believe that your child is missing. - If your child is missing from home, search the house checking closets, piles of laundry, in and under beds, inside large appliances, and inside vehicles, including trunks—wherever a child may crawl or hide.
- If you still cannot find your child, immediately call your local law enforcement agency.
- If your child disappears in a store, notify the store manager or security office. Then immediately call your local law-enforcement agency. Many stores have a Code Adam plan of action— if a child is missing in the store, employees immediately mobilize to look for the missing child.
- When you call law enforcement, provide your child's name, date of birth, heigth, weight, and any other unique identifiers such as eyeglasses and braces. Tell them when you noticed that your child was missing and what clothing he or she was wearing.
- Request that your child's name and identifying information be immediately entered into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) Missing Person File.
- After you have reported your child missing to law enforcement, call the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children on their toll-free telephone number: 1-800-THE-LOST (1-800-843-5678). Or you can use their Live Hotline to talk to NCMEC through their web site.

== Did you know that Myspace also has a huge Missing Person community of people who want to help?
Create a profile for your missing child, and then add the following people to your friends list:
These people have links to other missing persons and related information. Add them and send them a message!
Please add us also, and we will put your case in our top friends list. We rotate our top friends each month to give everyone a chance to be seen, but if your case is very new and time is off the essence, we will leave it up longer!
