9:56 AM - The class will come to order...
Category: Dreams and the Supernatural

Since our first show in early October of last year we have performed for anywhere between 30,000 to 45,000 of you. We greatly appreciate your growing support of the 2nd chapter of Blind Melon. We will play our 80th show today (Wednesday the 28th) in Lexington Kentucky. We plan to continue touring in support of our current album for quite some time.
Recently we have played a few festivals, some of which are either currently run by, or were founded by bands with whom we all familiar. Perhaps it is a bit premature to start selling tickets, but certainly not too early to at least entertain the question, why couldn't we have our own festival? We know a lot of really great bands, some you know, some you don't. We know people who own land, and flatbed trucks and folks who are not unfamiliar with the art of distributing hay across muddy areas. We know people who like to smoke and cook and drink and sell you food while doing both, (you can bring everything else you might need), and we will rent the port-o-johns.

Good idea? Maybe not...

Discuss amongst yourselves,

(Assignment: Paper due on aforementioned topic, 700 words single spaced, by Monday 6/1/08)

Class dismissed,

Glen

11:30 AM - What a Long Strange Trip it’s Been

Hello Everybody,
I want to apologize for canceling the San Diego and San Luis Obispo show. We are all feeling better and back on tour. We will reschedule both shows as soon as we can fit it in. Last week we played a show at Camp Pendleton in front of 30 thousand Marines. We were on a bill that included ZZ top and Snoop dog. Both were amazing. It felt good to give back to the men and women who are protecting our asses. We also played a Music Cares benefit honoring Slash and Alice Cooper. Steven Tyler sang "Mama Kin" and "Whole Lotta Love" with Slash and Jerry Cantrell on guitars. It blew my fucking mind it was soo good. Chester Bennington also did a song with Slash. That guy can sing his ass off.
Last night we played The Metro in Chicago. The last time we played the Metro was with Shannon 13 years ago. I had one of those heavy moments onstage when I felt so grateful to be back in this band. You guys have been so good to us and I really want to thank you. I never in a million years thought I would get a chance to play these songs for you again. We should have some new dates up on the site any day. We are planning an east coast run around the end of June. Looking forward to seeing all of you. Thanks again, talk to ya soon.

Christopher Thorn

P.S.- 2 shows added for next week:
May 28 - The Dame, Lexington, Kentucky
May 29 - Monkey Bar, Huntington, West Virginia

8:14 PM - This is for our Friends........
Current mood: contemplative

This is for our Friends........
...a moment of reflection:

It's been a long time since we've felt this - the anticipation of the release of a new record. We feel many things...mostly GRATITUDE.... For all of you who have supported us over the years. For all of you who have come out to the shows. For all of you who have posted comments on our page here. For all of you who have downloaded our records and enjoyed them. For all of you who have disagreed with our decision to use the 'Blind Melon' name, as well as all of you who were cool with it. For all of you who wrote us letters telling us what the songs meant to you. For all of you who reminded us how important Shannon was to you. For all of you who tell us how much you love Travis. For all of you who made us laugh. For all of you who cried at our shows. For all of you who travelled to multiple shows. For all of you who got into fights at our shows (we hope you won!). For all of you who came from lands afar. For all of you who have picked us up and carried us through hard times. . . . . you minded the fire while we wandered out to gather more wood. This record is for you. This record is FOR MY FRIENDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

11:34 AM - 4/22 is the new 420.......
Category: Fashion, Style, Shopping

Hi to you,

I am experiencing the perfect combination of exhaustion and caffeine, so I am capable of typing just about anything right now....

What are you wearing? Oh?....you always looked fantastic in that dress. Please sit in my lap......

Sorry...just zoning out for a moment.

Anyway, the record is coming out in a coupla weeks (4/22) and we’re getting all weirded out and excited about it. Got copies of the artwork the other day and it looked great (thanks to Geoff and all at thedecoderring.com).

The shows are stellar. It’s been a freaking privilage to play for all of you. Too many highlight shows to go into detail here. We just did our 50th show with Travis last night in Seattle to an enthusiastic crowd. Great to see old friends and drink pina coladas and get caught in the rain.

CONCERNING THE VIDEO FOR WISHING WELL:
That’s going to be premiered exclusively on Yahoo on Monday (thanks to the fine folks at yahoo for that!). Also, many thanks to Danny Clinch for making such an awesome video when all we had to offer him was a couple of good milking goats and a kick in the nuts. Clinch is a champ!!!!

We’re on the road now to Sacramento, then San Fran.....after that a coupla weeks off and then back at it in New Orleans. Still foaming at the mouth and chomping at the bit......

yours,

Rogers

5:46 PM - This blog is written for only you, yeah you........

Hello kids!!! this is Travass here and I just wanted to say hell-o and let you know that YOU-the
fans have been fucking incredible!! I want to personally thank each and everyone of you for
being so supportive. I knew taking on this job wasn’t going to be easy and being such a fan
of Blind Melon, I know how hard to it is to accept change, especially when it’s someone
you love so dearly. Shannon was and still is a GOD to me. When I was younger, I would walk
around trying to sing just like Shannon. I wanted to sing, dance, act and basically be just like
Shannon. There was something about his voice that was so hypnotic and therapeutic to me and
no other singer comes close to achieving what Shannon did. I feel like Shannon is the last TRUE
Rock legend. For me to be able to get on stage with these guys is the most incredible experience
I could ever come across. I would only hope that MR. Hoon is looking down smiling and excited
to see his legacy growing. I understand that everyone is not going to get this and doesn’t agree
with Blind Melon reforming and believe it or not, I honestly understand and I don’t look down
on them. It just shows how much they love Shannon and I admire that about them!
But for the ones who are glad the band is continuing on, will get to be a part of something very
special and experience magic and create memories that will last a life time. It has been an honor
to meet everyone on the road, I feel like this is one big family. I’d like to throw a party later
on down the road and invite all of you. We could sing Shannon songs all night and have one big
Melon orgy!!!!!! God bless you all and I’ll see ya soon,

3:19 PM - Chattanooga HooHa March 12th

Chatanooga, TN
March 12th, 2008

Melonheads,
The past two weeks have been killer.  One of the highlights was in NYC at club Hiro - Jenna Krause jumped on stage with Travis and sang "Mouthful of Cavities"... It was incredible. I got so lost in the first part of the song that I almost forgot to play my bass when the song kicked in with the drums. Needless to say, Travis has been killing it every night.. fearlessly singing old and new songs and paying homage to Shannon Hoon. The other standout show for us was Langerado down in Florida. We played in front of 6,000 people, everyone singing the words to "Change".  I had a flashback to our shows that we did back in ’94.  I dont want to get too "hippy" on you cats, but I felt the spirit of Shannon in the air. It seems like the lyrics of the old songs have taken on a new meaning, giving us permission to move on with our lives and keeping the music flying out of speakers and into the air.

3:11 PM - Backstage in Norfolk VA

We've just wrapped up all the artwork for the album....So glad that's over with as I hate deadlines. The album is coming out on April 22nd and the single came out I believe today on iTunes and maybe some other places I don't know about. The label is doing a presale that gets you a shirt and some other stuff here: http://ymamusicgroup.com/BM/splash.html

I'm also an Amway salesman, so if there are any products that you use from Amway, please consider buying them from me. I donate a portion of the profits from every sale to myself. That is a joke. Is Amway still in business?

We're having a fantastic time on the tour....last night in DC was exceptional and tonight looks to be great as well. There's a hot-tub and sauna backstage at this venue. I can only imagine what has happened before in this hot-tub. I think I'll skip it.........

see you soon!

CELEBRATED ROCK BAND BLIND MELON

EMBARK ON A U.S. TOUR IN SUPPORT OF THEIR UPCOMING

ALBUM ENTITLED "FOR MY FRIENDS"

In recent years, the tale of Blind Melon has taken a dramatic turn – from an abrupt and tragic end, to a rebirth and reconnection with their legion of fans. No matter how you slice it, the group was responsible for some of the most memorable and pure-sounding rock music of the '90s. And with their reformation in 2007 with singer Travis Warren, Blind Melon are poised to pick up exactly where they left off a decade earlier – as evidenced by their forthcoming CD entitled For My Friends set for release on April 22, 2008.

On February 28th Blind Melon are set to embark on a five month U.S. tour, a continuation of what they built in the 90's and the beginning of what they are building for the future. "We couldn't have planned this and we certainly couldn't have forced this. It was meant to be and it was meant to be now." commented bassist Brad Smith. Guitarist Christopher Thorn adds, "We weren't waiting around for Travis to show up in our lives. But when we met Travis, we just knew Blind Melon had to reform and be a band again. We feel so lucky to have this second chance, this new beginning."

Blind Melon originally formed in 1990 in Los Angeles, California, when five transplants from other states crossed paths - singer Shannon Hoon (from Indiana), guitarist Christopher Thorn (from Pennsylvania), and guitarist Rogers Stevens, bassist Brad Smith, and drummer Glen Graham (all from Mississippi). With a buzz created around the band, the group's now-classic self-titled debut was released in 1992 and their song "No Rain" became a smash on radio and MTV.

Unfortunately, it was around this time that Shannon Hoon's drug addiction took a turn for the worse and he overdosed while on tour at the age of 28. The four surviving members regrouped and issued an outtakes collection, 1996's 'Nico' (named after Hoon's then-baby daughter, and spawning such further Melon classics as "Soup" and "Soul One"), as well as the Grammy-nominated home video, 'Letters from a Porcupine.' At that point, an attempt to find a replacement for Hoon was abandoned, and in 1999, the group officially went their separate ways. Smith and Thorn subsequently formed a short-lived group, Unified Theory, as well as opening up their own recording studio (Wishbone), and becoming much-in-demand producers.

In 2006, Smith and Thorn were asked to produce some songs for Texas-based singer/songwriter, Travis Warren, who also happened to be a diehard Blind Melon fan. While working with Warren in the studio, Smith jokingly said to Thorn that Travis "could sing Blind Melon songs in his sleep." The idea was born. The four remaining members – who hadn't been in the same room in years – came together to be reacquainted with each other, and to meet with Warren. Soon after, it had become apparent that they had finally located Blind Melon's new singer. With Stevens and Graham reclaiming their spots as well, Blind Melon was back in business. Setting up shop at Wishbone, the reformed band spent most of 2007 writing and recording. But before issuing a new album, the group decided to introduce their newest member via a highly successful and completely sold out club tour in late 2007. The tour elicited an overwhelming response from audiences and prepped both old fans and new fans for what Blind Melon has in store for 2008.

We're in beautiful rural Pennsylvania now rehearsing for the tour.....leaves have turned and fallen and there are gunshots in the distance. Ghosts of Gettysburg perhaps? Thanks to Colleen Hennessey at Three on a Tree Productions (check out their new Pearl Jam concert DVD...it's killer) for the new tour video...you can see it on our main myspace page over to the left under the "influences" section. We've learned a bunch more songs for this run...old songs, new songs. .....shall we dance?
