good news and bad news (if you’re french)
salut....another short one from me
good news : we are playing with RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE at rock en seine on 20th august in paris. yeh you heard it right. i KNEW this year was gonna work out.
bad news : we are NOT playing les eurockéenes festival in belfort this month. and despite me deleting it from myspace, it's still coming up on the show list, so don't be fooled.
oh and we just went to some crazy demolition party in paris last week and did some improvised short film thing with olivier dahan and got to smash up some hotel rooms and see how real celebrities like to party. possibly the weirdest day of our lives.
á bientôt.

european tour...so far....
25th april wake up. it's 8am. i realise 8am is 7am to me because we've just left england and the ferry has docked at hook of holland. we drive down to amsterdam where we're playing tonight at the london calling festival. they hold it regularly at the paradiso and invite over a bunch of english bands to play - we did it 6 months ago in a small room and this time we're on in the large echoey main hall which fits about 1500 people. our main concern is that last time it was total anarchy but this room is so big, and the stage so high, we want to make sure it's just as lively as the last time we played. and despite it sounding like we were playing in outer space onstage, out front it must've sounded like rock music as everyone kicked off and we breathed a large sigh of relief because it still felt like a punk show. oh yeh and earlier that day we'd played inside a record shop called concerto, which was a massive independent shop and they were very cool to us, thanks concerto. even tho we find in-stores kind of awkward affairs, people seem to enjoy them and it's a good way to get around dumbass age restrictions at some venues. next day we're at the molotow in hamburg which we've played a few times before and it feels like home. it's a totally different vibe - small, really low stage, little PA, about 350 people right up in yr face. people are spilling onto the stage and trying to stage dive even tho you can touch the ceiling with an outstretched hand. our tech, reuben, spends the whole show juggling what equipment he has to hold in position as mics, drums, guitar pedals and PA speakers get thrown around the stage. it's like the minor threat shows i've seen on dvd so i'm happy. plus we do a really stretched out stadium rock jam on ADHD at the end of the encore which is silly but enjoyable. oh and i set a new record by puking onstage FOUR TIMES because it was so hot. FOUR TIMES. afterwards we party at the club night (strangely, in germany, they call a club night a "party" anyways) which involved a dance-off in a robot style, climbing up some lighting rigs and faux-dancing to "foundations" with some people who shall remain nameless. onwards.... next entry - 1st may we're just on the road to vienna today and i find myself wondering what we've been doing for the last few days...um...so....we went out in hamburg on our day off, saw the young knives play (they were mega-tight, it's scary) and said hi. our tm and guitar tech managed to somehow rename the hotel by climbing on the roof:
then we set off for cologne on monday. another cool show in germany. seems like we're pretty popular all over germany actually, although worryingly people have been referring to us being a hype band here. but i'm confident that as a live band we can live up to anything that's been written about us. after cologne was dortmund and then munich, which was last night. the shows have all been really cool to be honest. the only boring part has been one or two lame interviews...seriously if we get asked about the w**** s*****s again i'm gonna pull a proper rockstar tantrum and storm out...fucking laziness. last night some muppet guy got backstage after the show, i think he was in a band, he was trying to impress a girl by getting backstage with her and helping himself to drinks and acting like he owned the place. the kind of dude that "brianstorm" is about i reckon. so we pelted him with tomatoes off the rider, i squeezed his nuts to freak him out then "escorted" him out. the girl was left there looking confused and disctinctly unimpressed. i don't think he got laid that night ha ha. will post another random collection of things next time i feel inclined...and there should be some photos and video footage to get up here if we have the brain power or time to sort it out. meantime we're worrying about writing some b-sides in our soundchecks...

UK tour ends...and "that french support band"
just a quick one people...first up, we've been getting a lot of messages and emails asking about "that french band" that played with us...well folks, they're called 1984, they're from strasbourg, they're great, and you can check them out here:
www.myspace.com/band1984
highly recommend you get their album. and for those of you in france, you'll be happy to know we've just asked them to support on all our french shows as well.
other than that, big cheers to everyone at the UK shows, it's been up and down but ultimately pretty ace. thanks to these new puritans, peggy sue and the pirates, an emergency, epideme and 1984 for coming along to support us, you guys were amazing every time and made the shows really enjoyable. so now we're at home regenerating before commencing the european slog, then we're gradually announcing festivals all over the planet for summer, in between which we'll be working on a new EP for release later in the year. call us what you like but we ain't lazy, that's for sure.
our album is out now in a lot of countries. north and south americans - apologies we dont have a label over that way (yet - more news on that soon) but you can hopefully get it mailordered without being too expensive. and i'm told that it comes out over the next week or so in scandinavia, italy and spain.
peace

box of secrets, the album and a zane lowe session.
Hi everyone. It's a very exciting week for us... Mainly because our album 'box of secrets' is out now. You can get it at all good shops... On cd or 12" vinyl, or if you're the digital type you can download it at itunes now.
We're also going to be on zane lowe tonight from 7 doing a session. Make sure you tune in.
Finally – if you didn't already find the secret area on our website (or myspace for that matter), click on the box... Or you can just click here where you can enter to win an exclusive gig. Us and you. And any of your friends, in the location of your choice. We'd prefer to not play your local pub toilet... And (unfortunately) it's only open to UK residents...
Brs xx

apologies and thank yous
peeps! just a short blog. first up, sorry AGAIN to the folks who turned up to pure groove yesterday for our instore stuff. what a nightmare, moved it from banquet to there and then never even made it. we’re really sorry, we should have everyone’s email addresses so we’ll make it up to you in a way we see fit...think we probably should have organised our london day a bit better because we simply couldn’t make it uptown in time for it!
anyways, mostly just wanted to say a massive thanks to everyone who’s been coming down to the shows so far...this tour has been blowing our minds, the amount of people turning up and getting up onstage and going nuts has been really exciting. we’ve had a few ups and downs from our side but it’s really cool too see things growing and everyone singing along and shit, it’s like nirvana at reading festival (but smaller of course). keep it coming guys! we’re loving the chaos. except for when someone threw water all over laura-mary and nearly electrocuted her in cambridge that is.
hey so in other news, we disappeared after our london show last night and took over radio 1, thanks so much to huw stephens for having us in, total legend. if you wanna listen back to the "weird music" (bbc’s words) that we played, head to www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/huwstephens and listen back. it was sweet getting to hang around the radio 1 offices late at night wasted trying to work their record players. not sure they use them so much these days. hey you might find this funny, this is the email they sent us about swearing on air....i cut and pasted the whole email then a bird in my ear said i might get in trouble for it so here’s the best part cut out:
"They should make sure they is NO swearing - fucks/cunt/motherfucker/ho/bitch - REALLY bad we’re not allowed to broadcast that at all. Milder words like shit etc we have to get permission for beforehand. I know its stupid, but its not the BBC its the Ofcom regulators."
i wanna frame this email on my wall. it looks incredible with the full BBC footer at the bottom of the mail too, sorry i can’t show the whole thing i totally lamed out and didn’t want to get told of by THE MAN.
we’re also doing zane lowe session on tuesday 15th so look out for that...and the same chappie had us in on the gonzo brown sofa this week which i think starts broadcasting on friday. we totally killed it on the cheese test and laura-mary taught zane a deftones riff. another day, another dollar.
seeya soon guys.
