To the Pre Nintendo Generation (or at least if you were born before Nintendo hit USA)
Current mood: Fatherly

Found in an old email:

Those Born 1930-1979

READ TO THE BOTTOM FOR QUOTE OF THE MONTH BY JAY LENO.  IF YOU DON'T READ ANYTHING ELSE---VERY WELL STATED

TO ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED the 1930's, 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's!!

First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they were pregnant.

They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can, and didn't get tested for diabetes.

Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribs covered with bright colored lead-based paints.

We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets, not to mention, the risks we took hitchhiking.

As infants & children, we would ride in cars with no car seats, booster seats, seat belts or air bags.

Riding in the back of a pick up on a warm day was always a special treat.

We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle.

We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and NO ONE actually died from this.

We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter and drank Kool-aid made with sugar, but we weren't overweight because,
WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!

We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.

No one was able to reach us all day.  And we were O.K.

We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem.

We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's, X-boxes, no video games at all, no 150 channels on cable, no video movies or DVD's, no surround-sound or CD's, no cell phones, no personal computer! s, no Internet or chat rooms.......
WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!

We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents.

We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.

We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays, made up games with sticks and tennis balls and, although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes.

We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them!

Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!!

The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of.  They actually sided with the law!

These generations have produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever!

The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.
We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned HOW TO DEAL WITH IT ALL!

If YOU are one of them…CONGRATULATIONS!

You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before the lawyers and the government regulated so much of our lives for our own good.
While you are at it, forward it to your kids so they will know how brave (and lucky) their parents were.

Kind of makes you want to run through the house with scissors, doesn't it?!

The quote of the month is by Jay Leno:
"With hurricanes, tornados, fires out of control, mud slides, flooding, severe thunderstorms tearing up the country from one end to another, and with the threat of bird flu and terrorist attacks, are we sure this is a good time to take God out of the Pledge of Allegiance?"

For those that prefer to think that God is not watching over us...go ahead and delete this.
For the rest of us...pass this on.

(Or in this case, Comment and Kudos!!!)

The Begining of THE MOVEMENT

I wanted to take the time to show the whole thing about my friends N.O. Wordsmyths - from the breakdown of who they are, to the advertising. This will be a long one, Im sorry, but I think its intresting enough to read. Check them out, and tell me what you think! :)

"(All the) Years of my life, my adult expansion,
Wrapped by 300 years of history. But can you imagine?
How in a few days, like Kayne, it would all fall down..."
-M. Harris, Katrina Vision

The effect of Hurricane Katrina on New Orleans was catastrophic and long-lasting. The actual storm, making landfall on August 29, 2005, caused almost 1900 deaths, and over 800 billion dollars in damages. To this day, only about half of the 1.4 million residents of the metro area have returned. Through it all, there are people that participate in the dual role of living their own day to day lives, and doing things to help rebuild the future of this city. Enter two men that understand the dualness of both very well. S-PYanage and Work make up The N.O. Wordsmyths. Both are originally from the Lower 9th Ward of New Orleans who met at the University of New Orleans back in 2000. By day, they each represent careers as a Fireman, and Sewage and Water Utility Plant Worker for the City of New Orleans. By night, there is a unique chemistry between them that brews from past experiences as solo artists, musicians, and the life of the city they are from.

Due to the aftereffects of Katrina, the central office and studio of Rexless Records had to relocate to Atlanta. It was there, under the Production mastery of both in house Producer Da 'Y', and M. Harris of Urban Groovz Entertainment, the cultural rebuilding took place for the next 2 years. Out of the journey, affectionately called "The Atlanta Chronicles," came 8/29: The Movement. This album, like The Wordsmyths themselves, are not limited by the stereotypical "Gansta" of "Crack" rap of the mainstream, nor the local "Bounce" music of their home. Their unique concepts and lyrics are based in their everyday lives as middle class African-Americans recovering and rebuilding the world they knew before and envision for the future. Picture Outkast, UGK or Kanye West with Creole Seasoning.

Regardless if you are listening to the Groovy Gumbo that makes Bayou Queen, the alert commentary of Mr. Suit and Tie or Nickel to a Dollar, or just cruising along to I-10 Pimipin, you will hear the truth in every lyric, and every beat. You can hear the creativity acquired from their actual lives. The City of New Orleans occupies a unique place in America's cultural landscape, and the recovery won't be complete until New Orleanians return home and their culture is restored. You know, commitments in politics sometimes mean nothing. The N.O. Wordsmyths are making a commitment that means something and the world needs to hear musically. IT'S A MOVEMENT!

You are receiving this because you either are a member of one of Urban Groovz Entertainment's groups on Yahoo!,  a Myspace Friend, A Previous Satisified customer, or just a person we know that loves good music! Regardless of the reason, we wanted to give you the opportunity to bring another piece of New Orleans Back...... Read Below, and feel free to forward to other music lovers!!

Pork Chops
Current mood: animated

Got this in an email yesterday:

In a zoo in
California , a mother
tiger gave birth to a rare set of triplet tiger cubs. Unfortunately, due to
complications in the pregnancy, the cubs were born prematurely and due to their
tiny size, they died shortly after birth.

The mother tiger after
recovering from the delivery, suddenly started to decline in health, although
physically she was fine. The veterinarians felt that the loss of her litter had
caused the tigress to fall into a depression. The doctors decided that if the
tigress could surrogate
another mother's cubs, perhaps she would improve.

After
checking with many other zoos across the country, the depressing news was that
there were no tiger
cubs of the right age to introduce to the mourning mother. The veterinarians
decided to try something that had never been tried in a zoo environment.
Sometimes a mother of
one species will take on the care of a different species. The only 'orphans'
that could be found quickly, were a litter of weanling pigs. The zoo keepers and
vets wrapped the piglets in
tiger skin and placed the babies around the mother tiger. Would
they become cubs or pork chops??
Take a look...

Now, please tell
me one more time .........?
Why can't the rest of the world get
along??

Check out this video: THE KANE TRIPLETS- MISSION IMPOSSIBLE (1968)

First off, I didnt know there were words to this song either, and the harmonies are SICK!!!.... Secondly, I love the description of where half of 60's Culture came from....JFK??!?!?!???

Description: "There are words to that?!" That's what everybody thinks the first time they hear this. Yes, there are and they're really cool!

When JFK was asked what he was reading he mentioned a spy novel. Immediatly James Bond was fast-tracked into cinema houses worldwide. He was the perfect standard for Cold War virility, a John Wayne man with Hugh Hefner's upscale tastes. Television, movies, and comics ran with the espionage concept for the rest of the decade. Women became crucial players in these games of death and deceit. The proactive Mod culture set the example of the modern self-sufficient woman, and THE AVENGERS reflected this with Honor, Blackman, Diana Rigg, and Linda Thorson. They weren't Miss Moneypenny, they were Jane Bond; Kinky, cool, and lethal. MODESTY BLAISE threw down in the UK comic strips and in a hyper-Mod movie. Batgirl, enlivened by Yvonne Craig, was invented for the massively popular BATMAN TV series and took on a life of her own. "Meanwhile", villainess Catwoman stole all the best lines, attitude, and fashion. She was suitably mercurial in the forms of Lee Meriwether, Julie Newmar, and Eartha Kitt, whose brilliant casting opened a door for African American actors. French artist Guido Crepax envisioned a thoroughly adult comic where a Mod photographer named VALENTINA 's free sensuality, independence, and sharp observation guide her through surrealistic adventures. His boldly experimental graphic style was seamlessly converted to celluloid with the underated BABA YAGA film (1973). Barbara Bain and her husband Martin Landau helped launch MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE on it's original eight year stealth run. The Italian anti-hero Diabolik stole into cinemas in the modernist spectacle called DANGER DIABOLIK, which starred John Phillip Law and Marisa Mell as his match, Eva Kant. And then there's BARBARELLA. Jean Claude-Forest pushed the envelope with his torrid tales of a spacefaring free-loving minx. Surprisingly the film, starring a breakout Jane Fonda, retained as much of the adult comic as celluloid could handle, helping herald a new wave of sensuality and permissiveness in modern film. Anita Pallenberg steals the story as the Black Queen, dazzling the world with whirling knives, fetish futurism, polyamory, and sapphic seduction. THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. spun-off satellite sister Stephanie Powers in her own bulletproof jetcar. Wonder Woman got a makeover into an Avengers-inspired agent with a smashing Mod wardrobe. (In the early 70's, longtime fan Gloria Steinem helped wake her back up into her power mode.) "This (Ape) planet wouldn't be nothing without a woman or a girl", like Nova and Dr. Zira. If spy shows let women kick butt, and Barbarella opened their attitudes, this film reflected the growing disenchantment that something was going horribly wrong with the war machine. Meanwhile DC Comics let its readers redesign Supergirl for the changing age. it was one thing to be a good girl fighting crime like a man. It was another thing to be Tura

3 Tips You Wish You Knew Sooner...

Found in an old Email....

If you are in a relationship right now, or are thinking of
going into one, there are 3 very important tips you should
know and questions you should ask yourself before you ever
get yourself into a relationship. This could save you from a
lot of heartache and pain when you are involved in a love
relationship.

(1) Your lover does not owe you your happiness, peace or
joy.

Happiness is a state of mind we choose to have.
All of your happiness, and all of your suffering,
are created by you and they do not come from outside
of you, or from others. Before you go into any type
of relationship, ask yourself these questions:
"Do I really, really, really know how to walk
away from disappointment and fear? Will I be able
to find the person that I am NOW even after I go
into this relationship and begin a new way of life?"

In short, you should not be dependent on your partner
on your emotional needs. You yourself are responsible
for your own feelings and creating positive experiences
for both your partner and you whenever you are together.

(2) Love your partner for who they are.

No one in this world is perfect. One day you will
find your partner doing certain things or saying
certain things that will hurt you, disappoint you
or anger you. Before you go into any type of
relationship, you have to ask yourself: "Will
I be able to love my partner for who they are. If
I am unhappy or angry with something they have said
or done, will I be able to recognize my unhappiness
or anger as against their speech, actions and behavior,
and NOT against their persons?"

(3) Will I be able to love myself as much as I love my
partner?

If you cannot love yourself, how are you going to
give love to another? This is a mistake most people
make when they go into a relationship. They become
over-obsessive with what they can give to their partners
and what they can do for their partners.

To ensure a fulfilling relationship, you have to learn
to take care of your own needs as well. A true partner
or lover is one who will make sure that you do not
become too dependent on them. You are responsible for
your own feelings and your own emotional needs too. You
are a beautiful being.

So, take care of yourself, love yourself, treat yourself
to all the good things in life too, and do the same to
your partner. Very soon you will find true love
always coming your way without any effort on your part!

As always, if you are encountering problems in your
relationship, try to dissolve all of your problems in love.
And you’ll be sure you are on your way to a peaceful and
fulfilling relationship!
