Modern Day
Current mood: disgusted
Category: Life

Let me give you a little insight into how i grew up so you'll understand a little of what I think.

I grew up outside Detroit in a ton of different places mostly surrounded by the blue collar workers. They were what made this country great after all right? My dad was a loyal UAW (United Auto Worker) and my mom was also part of the UAW while she went to school to become a nurse. I had the "normal" life i guess you could say. I had a couple siblings, my parents divorced at an early age. My dad loved women (that's where I get it from I guess :P), so much he moved every couple of months chasing one. Although, they all ended in divorce, all 1200 marriages - or whatever crazy number he has notched on his belt.

Well, we never had a lot of money, hell I don't think we had any money. It was a struggle much like a lot of people are feeling currently. We had enough to pay bills and eat. If I wanted something more than what we had, I worked, same with my siblings. We were grateful for the stuff that we had - Food, clothes, electricity, things of that sort. When we went out, it was never somewhere we had to spend money, which isn't a bad thing. We went fishing, or to the mall, or to a friends house. Anytime I went to the movies, I believe I snuck in to see whatever it is I wanted to see.

Well, around the early 90's, with all those loyal auto workers, the UAW decided they wanted more than what they had. Of course, isn't that the way it usually went. Here they were supposed to be FOR the worker and they started demanding. Ok, so our head ass in charge did have something to do with it. By this I mean, the President of the USA. They worked on the NAFTA agreement. This wasn't by any means for the American people. It was for those great corporations that held the average Joe in contempt. "Speak to your own pay grade" they exclaimed from their luxury sedans. Laughing while Average Joe, trying to raise kids in a single parent household, busted his butt day in and day out, working all the overtime he/she could to make ends meat.

Well, as it turns out, those who were once upon a time for the working schmuck, are for themselves. "No fucking way!" I know that's what you're thinking. Not in today's world. That can't be. hahahahaha

Well, over the last decade and then some, the wonderful UAW has been stealing money from the hardworking people of this nation to give them a little more leverage. With what you may be asking right about now. That great Democratic party. Or, if you're in my shoes, Democrats and republicans are in the same boat. Their both pretty worthless in my eyes at this point. The damage that has been done so far to our economy is astounding. But, lets move away from the government.

Back to my original plan here (I've been drinking so bare with me :P).

The wonderful people with the UAW, by this I don't mean the workers, I mean the people who are supposed to be protecting the hardworking people who help bring this country together. All those different people from different backgrounds. The gays, the straights, the blacks the whites, the latinos. Everyone working as one for 1 simple cause, to create something to help someone else get to where they need to go. Well, they've decided, and not recently I might add, that just protecting the average Joe that works for certain corporations, isn't enough. Now they feel they have to maneuver their way into politics. So, they've now put numerous people out of work, relentless on striking for any reason they deem necessary. They've helped to put thousands upon thousands of people out of jobs. I think it was 1992 or 93 when shit really started to hit the fan. I believe (I'm not fact checking I'm too damn drunk and lazy) that 18 plants in the matter of 6 months in Michigan alone, were shut down. Lately, there was the American Axle strike that helped lay off thousands upon thousands of people. The reason for this strike, was because American Axle wasn't buying from suppliers whose employees were UAW workers. Yes, the UAW will state otherwise. But, as it stands, the UAW only benefited from this, not the workers themselves. Hell, those workers have had to take pay cuts. But the UAW didn't start taking less in Union dues. No not at all, fuck the workers. They began making more money, to send lobbyists into the capitol to layer those already bulging pockets with more green linen.

What happened to the days when the everyday worker actually meant something? Now we have John McCain talking about the trickle theory when it comes to his economic stance and tax cutting.

The way I see it, the rich, profit more for making more money. The poor continue to pay (The taxes will be raised regardless of who gets in office) that extra bit that they've bled to dream for.

So, here we have it, those people I refer to as United Against the Workers (UAW) and those who wish to screw the average worker outright, Republicans. I guess it can't get any worse can it? We're already fighting a war we shouldn't be fighting. Paying all of our hard earned dollars into a retirement fund that we won't be seeing and all the while, hoping those brave men and women, that believe they're fighting for our freedoms, will come home safe.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, don't just go out and vote, be sure to make an informed decision on whoever you choose to run the highest office in the country. Also, don't let this be like another Vietnam, be grateful those who are fighting are fighting and it's not you. Thank them when you see them and show them some respect. They're bound to have seen some horrible shit on another part of the globe that most people couldn't dream of understanding.

Bridget
Current mood: cheerful
Category: Pets and Animals

So a couple weeks ago I wake up to my girlfriend telling me I'm going to be mad. She had found a puppy and needed to take it to a vet. So we talked about the puppy. She's a mix of Pit Bull and Lab. She's absolutely gorgeous. When Becky told me about this I had no idea what was going to happen. Bridget (as we now call her) was so sick when she was brought here she couldn't walk. She couldn't even stand up, she was extremely malnurished and in really bad shape.

Becky was planning on taking her into a shelter once she got the meds for it so she could be adopted out. But who knows what kind of people would get her? I sure as hell don't, and honestly don't want to nurse a gorgeous puppy back to health so someone can raise her for fighting or whatever else may come. So, I talk Becky into keeping the puppy. If our landlord finds out, we're going to be out on our ass. But, what the hell right? I've wanted a new dog for a long time.

So anyway, in the coming weeks, we've bathed her, we take her out numerous times each day and play with her nonstop. We've fed her, she eats more than both the cats put together. We've given her all of her meds and she's getting to be a real handful. She just wants to chew on everything that she can get into her mouth. She's a great dog though, and although everyone has their own thing they do in life. I figured I would share my little success story with you.

I'm off to drink and play fetch, I hope she can find the ball, it's freakin dark outside.
