Feminine Wiles by John Grover
Category: Writing and Poetry

Think that women are the softer sex? Well think again! These women will prove you wrong—dead wrong.
Gathered in this volume are sixteen tales of ladies of darkness, women of horror, sisters of the night, witness as they turn the tables on their male counterparts with cunning, intelligence and beauty to blaze a hellish path through horror fiction.
From the fair maiden to the withered crone women have always had a place in supernatural and horror literature but never have they taken the spotlight as they do now. Read on as they prove that men aren't the only villains to be reckoned with and that they can be every bit as lethal. Every story in this collection features a female villain in all her dark glory from the femme fatale to the wicked witch.
You will find no damsels in distress or dim-witted victims in this book-only seductive, cunning, savage and strong villains to make your nightmares sweeter than you could ever imagine. Will you go willingly when they summon, will you succumb when they seduce you, will you fall prey to their Feminine Wiles?
Repost from John Grover's website www.shadowtales.com
Feast your eyes my little creatures of the night on the new cover art to my next release: "Feminine Wiles. 16 tales of Wicked Women." The art is the vision of Daniele Serra, a great artist who works on Dr. Who, Marvel and Cemetery Dance magazine. He has captured the surreal feel that I intended for this collection of femme fatales and ghostly women. Visit the publisher's site for a synopsis of my next journey into terror at Blu Phier. This book is due out November 2008.

Review for The Renegade
Category: Writing and Poetry
With the help of two members of the Elite, Vanessa must destroy The Renegade, but there is much betrayal and deceit that must be brought out into the open. People are not as they seem, and Vanessa's past has just come back to haunt her.
Jane Timm Baxter knows how to write a good horror story! She masters the art of horror entangled with mystery and makes The Renegade a scream to read. Her vampires and Elite's are cousin races but have much in common, you do not want to pass up this book if you see it on your bookstore's shelf! 4 Bloody Hearts

John Grover Updates
Category: Writing and Poetry
Hi guys, It’s been a while since I’ve done an update on the good old blog, so I do finally have some news to report. It’s been a slow 2008 so far but not from lack of trying...it’s been a trying few weeks with some big rejections coming in that have left me a bit down. But not to fear, I am still trucking along and continue to create more fiction and perfect my craft. In the good news category I do have some acceptances to report!
My story "Talents" has been accepted into the Charity Anthology "HELP" to benefit Preditors and Editors in their fight against Publish America. I am honored to be able to help this cause out and to be along side some fantastic writers with more talent than you can put in one place. This book will be outstanding. For more info please visit the anthology myspace page http://www. myspace. com/preditorsandeditors
In other news, my story "Riding the Heat Wave" was accepted by Alien Skin Magazine for their August issue. Visit their website at http://www. alienskinmag. com/
My story "Power Plant" has been accepted into the Word Weavers Fantasy Anthology. The title of this book is still TBD but I’m sure it will be a fun book for all the fantasy and sword and sorcery lovers out there! Visit their myspace page here: http://www. myspace. com/anthologysubmissions
That’s it for now kiddies. I am diligently working on all kinds of new projects, a collaboration with R. Thomas Riley, A new novel with a new writer friend of mine, a new story collection, edits to two other novels that have been years in the making. Shopping around a novella that I co-wrote with my best friend. Also various shorts, including flash stories, zombie stories, period pieces, my new fantasy series involving a half-elf thief that I am just so captivated with and hope readers will be too! Until next time....Take good care! John Grover

Interview (Repost)
Category: Writing and Poetry
Note: My friend Crystal just posted a short interview about me and my books on her website. Here’s a short excerpt. Enjoy!
CA: What genre(s) do you write? Why do you write the stories that you write?
Liz: I write fantasy, fiction, erotic romance and I have recently started exploring with horror. I write these genres because I like to explore different aspects of myself through writing and also if I didn’t, I honestly believe that my head would explode. It’s the only way I know how to vent what I can’t express vocally.
CA: When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?
Liz: The first time I read a book and the moment I picked up a pen and realized that I could jot down my thoughts on paper. I think I was 16 when I really started to take it seriously.
CA: Who or what was your inspiration for writing?
Liz: Everything inspires me to write. Dreams, clouds, laughter, women crying, sadness, random conversations (I’m a master eavesdropper *wink*).
CA: Whispers down to Dave *makes sure Liz doesn’t hear conversation* *giggles*

HELP FIGHT AGAINST PUBLISH AMERICA:
Charity Anthology:
Calling all authors:
In February, it was learned that the business practice known as Publish America is now suing P&E (Preditors and Editors)
Publish America's information is also in this BLOG:
Predators and Editors is a valuable resource for aspiring writers and publishers on who are who and what is what in the Publishing industry. I am fully engaged in helping the fight against Publish America and what they are doing to authors across the nation:
David Kuzminski who runs P&E needs your help: His group has been receiving donations for the legal case. I, Eric Enck and David Kuzminski am asking all writers of any genre to give us some stories. They can be fantasy, horror, SF, bizzaro, romance…it doesn't matter. We want good stories to put together an anthology for purchase.
Every cent will go to Predators and Editors for the legal case. Please send submissions in double space 12pt font (Times New Roman preferred) to
The cover is being illustrated by renown artist, Danielle Serra.

First Review for The Jackets
Category: Writing and Poetry

Liz DeJesus', The Jackets is a splendid compilation of perfectly written stories that will keep you turning the pages. Gorgeous illustrations were at the beginning of some chapters, they were very eye pleasing. I would highly recommend The Jackets to anyone that can pick up a book and read. The stories are things that can happen to real people, with a fantasy twist. I do hope you will take my advice and order your copy today! 5 Hearts.

The Jackets is scheduled for a release in November 2008 through Blu Phi'er Publishing

John Grover News
Category: Writing and Poetry
Hi everyone, I wanted to first extend a thank you to the Editors of Dark Scribes Magazine for awarding me Editor's Choice for Best Author Site in the Black Quill awards. It was an exciting surprise to see my website there. Very cool. I just dropped by to let everyone know I added that announcement to my news page along with a couple other updates that may interest some of you guys. In my links section I added a recommended reading list that I will add to periodically. Right now it contains the most recent titles I've finished reading and really enjoyed. So I thought it would be fun to post that list and a link to purchase said titles.
Also, I have now added excerpts from my two latest books, the collection "A Beckoning of Shadows" and the chapbook "Terror in Small Doses" from the now defunct Nocturne Press but copies of this autographed chap are still available here at Shocklines for anyone interested. These snippets will give you a taste of the type of stories I write. Here is the link to my site: Shadow Tales
Thanks for reading! John Grover
Wanna read a fresh new tale of the undead? Something you can really sink your teeth into? Well, look no further. Why not read my newest little diddy entitled "Unnatural Selection?' My story is now being featured on the cool zombie fiction site "Tales of the Zombie War." The site has a comments feature and I would love to hear what all the zombie lovers think of my tale. If you could, leave me a comment on the site at the end of the story. I almost ever write zombie fiction, so this is a rarity of mine. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thank you! Here is the link:

Repost: Signed Copies
Category: Writing and Poetry
Hey Everyone:
I finally have some copies of my novel Nina. So if anyone is interested in getting a personalized and signed copy send me a message. The book is $12.99. Shipping and Handling will be included.
Here's a blurb:
Nina is the moving story of a work of art that comes to life and of how she affects the lives of those around her. After several miscarriages, Rachel Ramirez, a brilliant but tragic artist, secludes herself and begins a series of paintings based on her lost child, naming each painting 'Nina'. One of them (the title character) comes to life inside her canvas. She is able to see and hear the world around her. Even though Nina has innate wisdom, there are still many things that she doesn't understand. When Rachel commits suicide, Nina is thrown into the confusing world, and her painting is passed around to others. But as Nina progresses from Rachel's mother to a buyer named Anna, she keeps learning, and eventually is able to leave her canvas and enter the world. She meets Elijah (mostly in dreams or inside her canvas), who acts as her guide, and tells her of her fate. She has one year to decide whether to join the rest of the world, beginning life anew, or to remain a painting forever.
And here are some of the reviews Nina has recieved since it's release:
Many religions believe that the soul exists before birth. What if your soul was created, but you were not born? Nina, the desperately desired daugther of her mother, was left exactly in that predicament. Yet her mother's death leads to the events that lead to Nina's spiritual - and literal - birth into our world. A child painted by her mother's brush grows into a rich character whose descriptions of the world are as broad and detailed as a painter's own work. "Nina" is a brief excursion into how the universe may make right what goes wrong.
Tamara Wilhite Author of Humanity's Edge
Liz DeJesus has captured a true essence with her debut novel, Nina. Not only is it compelling and makes you turn the page every step of the way, the story is told masterfully. I'm very skeptical about debuts, but not about this one. This story is of a woman longing to live a life, striving to be her own person, and with that, Liz captured a truly remarkable story. I would be on the lookout for her for many, many years to come. Nina is fantastic, heart-pounding and truly amazing. --Joseph McGee, author of In the Wake of the Night, Phil's Place, and Snow Hill (June 2008)
Nina is an enchanting novel, poles apart, superb and striking. The voice of mystery is up and running from the beginning. The story never let's go as it paint's a picture of love and anonymity. A fantasy like no other. What better to ask from an author of the genre?
