Ok let's start with the good news..HUGE FUCKING PROPS go to our buddy Jason for making such an amazing piece of work HOBO WITH A SHOTGUN. As expected he nailed FIRST PRIZE. Way ta go Hobo!!!
Bad news is I would be fibbing my ass off to say that although these three winners are all of the hook... I think the whole contest was handled shabby at best.
Perhaps SXSW got waaaaay too many entrants than what they expected but none of us entrants knew shit about what trailers got selected until the day of the screening.
A ton of good people (Grindhouse's target market I might add) busted their ass to make these trailers all based the fact they thought the contest would have a much greater scale then it ended up having. Three trailers ??? A dozen at least should have been selected.
I hope at the very least some of these entrants get added to the GRINDHOUSE DVD as a bonus feature or easter egg. I myself can not complain. I got to spend a cold night in February "balls deep" in the PUSSY POUND and have plenty more GRINDHOUSE shows on tap for 2007.
We have been living this shit in the flesh for close to two years in a city unknown to most. How can one bitch over that????
Sexy Basement Girls Break Out - Story of our SXSW Trailer
Current mood: uncomfortable
The story of the Pussy Pound aka Reizvolle Keller-Mädchen Brechen Aus
About 2 months into Vagrancy Films' screening schedule longtime pal Cliff and myself came up with the idea of having a film about a group of girls held against their will to be used as sex slaves. What their abductors did not realize was that one of the girls they shanghaied turns out to be a bad ass of her own. She goes along for the ride at first..but soon tires of these pricks and then starts to whack them one by one.
That's pretty much where it sat for two years An idea talked over some green and booze. Then in late January 2007 I surfed to the Grindhouse Web page and saw some shit about them wanting "Fan Trailers" for a fictitious exploitation film. I immediately picked up the phone and called Jake Windatt. Not only is Jake an incredible friend and asset to Vagrancy...but the only one in my inner circle who actually knows a thing or two about movie making. Jake directed the 2005 underground feature film called "Intercessor" ..myself I had only done home made porno's with hookers via a cam in the alarm clock. All my filmed exploits turned out to be less than satisfactory.
The location was already a done deal. We shot it in an industrial section of London Ontario that could have passed for any big city slum. The actual "pound" itself is an storage facility that at the time was hosting speak easy's and punk shows. Rocko was the real care taker of the place. All the swords, guns ( faux ) were all his and Jakes.
So with the location and the basic plot taken care of all we needed was the "Pussy" to go with the "Pound " Our pre-shooting myspace bulletins were yielding great potential. Hot wool was emailing us left and right saying that they would be down with a Vagrancy Shoot. But once these fine ladies learned what we wanted to do...the numbers fell off. We went from 15 confirmed girls to only 3. But as the finished product shows we did pretty darn good with what we had. My hat goes off to Mel, Blister, and Rachael. How lucky we were to have three stars that had seen a decent amount of these types of films already at our monthly events. Having to explain things to them was not necessary. They had seen it all first hand on the big screen. Mel get's extra credit not only for showing that "extra bit of sweet spice" but for also enduring 72 hours non-stop 42nd street this past September during the Rue Morgue Festival of Fear. Ask her to tell you the story.
My goal is that the finished product comes across like we intended. Having seen the vast majority of the other entrants in the SXSW Grindhouse Contest I know for a fact that ours may not have cost as much or had as much FX etc but in terms of authenticity of a sex & violence picture ( especially those from Europe ) it's a bang on job.
I dedicate the Pussy Pound to Erwin "Rolls Royce Baby" Dietrich , and the magic man himself....Jess Franco.
