Vampires: Mathematical Impossibility
Current mood: angsty
Vampires a Mathematical Impossibility, Scientist Says Sara Goudarzi LiveScience Staff Writer LiveScience.com
A researcher has come up with some simple math that sucks the life out of the vampire myth, proving that these highly popular creatures can't exist.
University of Central Florida physics professor Costas Efthimiou's work debunks pseudoscientific ideas, such as vampires and zombies, in an attempt to enhance public literacy. Not only does the public believe in such topics, but the percentages are at dangerously high level, Efthimiou told LiveScience.
Legend has it that vampires feed on human blood and once bitten a person turns into a vampire and starts feasting on the blood of others.
Efthimiou's debunking logic: On Jan 1, 1600, the human population was 536,870,911. If the first vampire came into existence that day and bit one person a month, there would have been two vampires by Feb. 1, 1600. A month later there would have been four, and so on. In just two-and-a-half years the original human population would all have become vampires with nobody left to feed on.
If mortality rates were taken into consideration, the population would disappear much faster. Even an unrealistically high reproduction rate couldn't counteract this effect.
"In the long run, humans cannot survive under these conditions, even if our population were doubling each month," Efthimiou said. "And doubling is clearly way beyond the human capacity of reproduction."
So whatever you think you see prowling around on Oct. 31, it most certainly won't turn you into a vampire.
Brett says: "They didn't calculate the A-Factor in their calculations. They forgot the AWESOMENESS of vampires - so I say they DO exist! Same goes for Zombies, Hobbits, and black people."

Go see the Hulk!
Current mood: angry
Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities
My friend Jon Lipow did the voice for the Hulk and Abomination is the new Hulk movie in theaters now. There were many moments in the fight scenes certain growls and battle cries I went "that's TOTALLY Jon!" It was awesome to see my very talented friend in something this cool.

We gave him his own premeire. He's the one standing behind his wife in the white shirt in the center. We're all doing our impression of the Hulk. :-P
Congratulations, Jon! Well deserved!

I’ll Miss You, George Carlin
Current mood: sad
Category: Life
Yesterday around 6pm, one of my greatest influences and favorite comics, George Carlin died of heart failure.
When I was a kid I first discovered stand up comedy from my mother's collection of Bill Cosby records. It wasn't until summer camp that my cousin introduced me to his tapes of George Carlin. We mostly listened to them for the all the dirty words, but even then I could tell there was more to him, there was substance and a point of view. He was saying something with his profanity.
He was a word play master and a legend of stand up, while still alive, for over 45 years. While most comedians acheive their fame and move on to tv and movie careers and never pick up the mic again or wait 20 years and give it one last forgettable HBO special, George never stopped touring. It was his life's purpose and his passion. I don't think anyone will top the career he has had or his contribution to the the art of stand up.
"Frisbeetarianism is the belief that when you die, your soul goes up on the roof and gets stuck." George Carlin
I'll miss you, George. I'll miss you a great deal.

48 Hour Film Project
Current mood: accomplished
Last Friday my gf Milda decided to do the 48 Film Project and recrouted myself, Jon Lipow (the voice of the Hulk - go see it now), Christy Murphy, Matt Viera, Steve vitolo, Kevin Beyers and Adam Emperor.
The rules are: You have 48 hours to make a 4-7 minute movie. You pull a genre out of a hat on fri 7pm (we got Road Movie). You have to include a charecter (this year was ron donellson game host) a line of dialogue ( "leave it to me i'm a professional") and a prop (3 potatoes).
Firstly, me and Milda ran to Amy Sol's solo show at Thinkspace gallery - awesome paintings Amy! Then the writer's meeting at 10pm at Milda's. Everyone pitched ideas then we hammered out a script. I co-directed with Milda so our night conitinued after everyone slept as we planned out our shots.
3 hours of sleep later we're shooting begins in her living room. Our opening is 3 people screaming ROAD TRIP! at the top of their lungs. We warned her roomies ahead of time. They were so loud the mexican carpenters building the house next store we're screaming in mock jest after the take. Awesome!
next loaction was a abandoned movie parking lot, then a park bathroom - which we were kicked out of cause there was little league games going on and they thought we were filming little kids peeing or something. So we ran off before we were arrested.
Our ron donnelson was driving back from San Diego sowe didnt know if he was going to make it or not but we got the last shot minutes before the light left us! Woo hoo!!
I knew if I went to sleep for even an hour I wouldnt wake up so I went straight to editing till 6am then crashed until 10 and tweeked the shots while adding VO and music as Jon peroidically emailed me.
We finished the movie and ran to westwood to turn it in. We were the FIRST group to turn their movie in. Oh yeah! I took Milda to dinner to celebrate. As we were leaving for home, in the parking structure, with 20 minutes to deadline, we pass by a car with 5 guys huddled around 2 laptops in a car roof. I can see the final cut pro editing software running on their screens as they tried to finish their movie. I honked the horn and we gave them a thumbs up and said "you can make it!" they laughed as cheered.

The whole experiance was so positive top to bottom. We all put in so much work under such pressure and it was sooooooo much fun. I can't wait to do it again next year! If they come to your town you should do it too!
NOW GO SEE OUR MOVIE THIS THURS 10pm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was very surprised with Alien Vs Predator 2. I really enjoyed it. It's a blood splattering good time. I really disliked aliens 4, predator 2, and avp 1, so I went in with low expectations. I found the directing, special effects and cinematography to be excellent in this one.
In other news, I listened to Scarlett Johanson's music cd. The songs are VERY well produced. Her singing is... meh. If Nora Jones sang those same songs with the same big band behind her those songs would be popping.

Why DON’T I own this movie?
Current mood: adored
Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities
Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Kahn. It's STILL the best of ALL them. How great is it? I'll tell you...
Leonard Nemoy only agreed to do it because it killed Spock so he would no longer be tormented with being assoiated with the role anymore. BUT the movie was so great it even turned HIS opinon, and he wanted a sequel with his charecter back.
My favorite line in the movie (said by Kahn speaking of Kirk):
"He tasks me! He tasks me! And I
shall have him. I'll chase him
round the moons of Nibia and round
the Antares malestrom and round
perdition's flames before I give
him up."
