Is it me?...

If you have seen the news, or read a paper recently in Britain, you'll be aware of someone called Tony Blair.
Back in 1997 he was elected as the Prime Minister of this country, after a landslide victory for 'New' Labour over the Conservative party.
The Conservative party had been in power for what seemed like forever and had appeared to be so confident in their power that they tried to put in place very unpopular legislation.  Remember the Poll Tax?
Now, fast forward 10 years, Tony Blair seems so sure of his party's power, that he's started introducing unpopular legislation, ID Cards (Which of course won't be compulsary..), pay-per-mile taxing on vehicles, virtual privatisation of the NHS...
Need I go on, or can you see where I'm heading here?
What seems to grate more than anything with the current Government, is it's attitude.
Take the proposed legislation for pay-as-you-drive.  A petition was set up which got 2 million signatures.  2 million.  That's a lot of people.
Our great leaders' response?  We're doing it anyway.  May not have been written like that, but hey, they've got the power.
Wrong.
The Government is put there by us.  It's our votes during elections that get those people in power.
Sounds simple?  Well it is.
What this Government seems to have forgotten, is that it can all change very quickly.  The landslide that put Labour in power, came from one of the lowest voter turn outs ever.  Almost 30% of those who could, didn't turn up to vote.
If all those turned up to vote against Labour next time, it will all be very, very different.
The Government should be afraid of the People.  Not the other way around.

New post. Wow!

Well, it's been a while since I've posted here.  But things have gone so well, I thought I'd jot down a few of the things that are currently making me happy.
1.  I have a job!  After what seemed like forever (about 2 months), I got a job as an IT Manager working for a software development company.  It's fantastic.  Great people, great job and it's walking distance from home.
2.  My girlfriend is fantastic.  No more comment needed.
3.  My son has got himself on his local Rugby team and is playing his first away game on Sunday. I is dead proud.

Not much else at the moment.  Apart from driving to Alderley Edge on Sunday to see a piano.
Buy for now!

Redundancy....Bugger
Category: Jobs, Work, Careers

Bum.
Found out yesterday that after five years service, my job is being made redundant.

At first I felt gutted, but now I'm strangely relieved.   At least now I can start to move onto something new.

Oh well, onwards and upwards.
